    Environmental knowledge management: A long-term enabler of tourism development

    A review of the literature confirms that there is a need for knowledge management frameworks which support knowledge creation, particularly in those organisations having to operate in a changing environment. Socialisation, externalisation, combination and internalisation continue to be key processes for the creation of knowledge which enables organisations to successfully address environmental challenges. This paper examines the relevance and importance of a SECI model as an enabler of the processes of reusing and updating the environmental knowledge of an organisation. The research reported has confirmed that time is a key component of the implementation of a SECI model in organisations operating in a changing environment. Thins been confirmed that such a strategy should focus on the reuse of prior environmental knowledge as a mechanism to establish within the organisation a context where new knowledge management processes are understood and adopted by employees. The paper also examines the relationship between environmental knowledge and organisational performance indicators. These relationships are examined through an empirical study of 87 companies in the Spanish hospitality sector. The results of the study indicate that environmental knowledge at any given time (T) is significant in predicting the knowledge management processes that may be successfully implemented at a later point in time (T + 6 years).     “Emotional Exhaustion and Perceived Corporate Social Responsibility: A Case Study of a Port Logistics Organization”

    In an era of economic crisis, and at the shadow of major ethical scandals in organizations, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy has emerged as a crucial element to reestablish the bond between corporations and all other stakeholders such as the local community, society and labor force. Crisis makes employees more stressful, since they work on unwarranted jobs causing them emotional exhaustion. This study aims to examine the association between employee emotional exhaustion and perceived corporate social responsibility (CSR). For this purpose, this study conducted a survey which examines if CSR (ethical, social, environmental dimensions) is negatively related to emotional exhaustion of employees on a sample of 93 employees of a port logistics management services organization. A structured questionnaire was developed in order to measure emotional exhaustion and employee perceptions about CSR activities. Building on the claim that employee perceptions of CSR activities may significantly related to emotional state, this paper examines three CSR dimensions (social, ethical and environmental) and emotional exhaustion. The results of this study indicate that environmental CSR exerts a negative significant effect on Emotional exhaustion. These finding will be of great value as they can contribute on understanding the impact of environmental CSR on emotional exhaustion with detrimental effects on employees’ productivity, job performance, and creativity. The importance of CSR environmental aspects and the relative strategies guiding CSR impact on emotional exhaustion affecting job-related outcomes are also discussed

    Knowledge management practices for sustainable supply chain management: A challenge for business education

    In the last decades, business competition has been increasingly among supply chains (SCs) rather than individual firms. Today, considering the challenges of environmental, social, and economic sustainability, it is becoming even more vital to coordinate and co-manage company resources, activities, and innovative efforts at the SC level. Consequently, knowledge, which is a critical resource for companies, needs to be managed properly not only in single firms but also across SCs. For the education of business managers, this implies a double challenge: first, to make students and future executives become aware of the knowledge management (KM) practices that can be adopted; second, to facilitate the assimilation of these practices for the effective management of SCs, to ensure higher economic and environmentally sustainable performances. Standard definitions and classifications can be of great help, but the current studies are very fragmented. This study contributes by exploring the literature and examining the KM practices that are proposed and defined by the different authors. A systematic review and a descriptive analysis of selected papers showed the trend and focus of papers in the KM and SC fields. In addition, based on the definitions and classifications drawn from the literature, this paper discusses a possible systematization of the key KM practices in SCs. The major contribution of this paper is the effort of re-definition and re-classification of KM practices and their potential importance for effective and sustainable SC management. This analysis can be especially useful for organizing KM courses targeted to current and future business managers
