    Entanglement Content of Quantum Particle Excitations II. Disconnected Regions and Logarithmic Negativity

    In this paper we study the increment of the entanglement entropy and of the (replica) logarithmic negativity in a zero-density excited state of a free massive bosonic theory, compared to the ground state. This extends the work of two previous publications by the same authors. We consider the case of two disconnected regions and find that the change in the entanglement entropy depends only on the combined size of the regions and is independent of their connectivity. We subsequently generalize this result to any number of disconnected regions. For the replica negativity we find that its increment is a polynomial with integer coefficients depending only on the sizes of the two regions. The logarithmic negativity turns out to have a more complicated functional structure than its replica version, typically involving roots of polynomials on the sizes of the regions. We obtain our results by two methods already employed in previous work: from a qubit picture and by computing four-point functions of branch point twist fields in finite volume. We test our results against numerical simulations on a harmonic chain and find excellent agreement

    A novel programmable lysozyme-based lysis system in Pseudomonas putida for biopolymer production

    Indexación: Scopus; Web of Science.Cell lysis is crucial for the microbial production of industrial fatty acids, proteins, biofuels, and biopolymers. In this work, we developed a novel programmable lysis system based on the heterologous expression of lysozyme. The inducible lytic system was tested in two Gram-negative bacterial strains, namely Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas putida KT2440. Before induction, the lytic system did not significantly arrest essential physiological parameters in the recombinant E. coli (ECPi) and P. putida (JBOi) strain such as specific growth rate and biomass yield under standard growth conditions. A different scenario was observed in the recombinant JBOi strain when subjected to PHA-producing conditions, where biomass production was reduced by 25% but the mcl-PHA content was maintained at about 30% of the cell dry weight. Importantly, the genetic construct worked well under PHA-producing conditions (nitrogen-limiting phase), where more than 95% of the cell population presented membrane disruption 16 h post induction, with 75% of the total synthesized biopolymer recovered at the end of the fermentation period.     Effect of antimony on the eutectic reaction of heavy section spheroidal graphite castings

    There is a strong demand for heavy section castings made of spheroidal graphite with a fully ferritic matrix, e.g. for manufacturing hubs for windmills. Such castings with slow solidification process are prone to graphite degeneration that leads to a dramatic decrease of the mechanical properties of the cast parts. Chunky graphite is certainly the most difficult case of graphite degeneracy, though it has long been known that the limited and controlled addition of antimony may help eliminate it. The drawback of this remedy is that too large Sb additions lead to other forms of degenerate graphite, and also that antimony is a pearlite promoter. As part of an investigation aimed at mastering low level additions to cast iron melts before casting, solidification of large blocks with or without Sb added was followed by thermal analysis. Comparison of the cooling curves and of the microstructures of these different castings gives suggestions to understand the controlling nucleation and growth mechanisms for chunky graphite cells

    A acidose tubular renal distal é uma doença rara, caracterizada pela incapacidade na acidificação da urina, condicionando acidose metabólica hiperclorémica, hipocaliémia, hipercalciúria e nefrocalcinose, o que poderá causar atraso de crescimento, alteração do metabolismo ósseo e insuficiência renal crónica. A acidose tubular renal distal associada a surdez neurossensorial é uma doença de herança autossómica recessiva, causada por mutações do gene que codifica a subunidade B1 da H+ -ATPase (ATP6V1B1). Os autores relatam os casos de duas irmãs que apresentaram má progressão ponderal, alterações iónicas, do equilíbrio ácido base e surdez neurossensorial. Foi detectada em ambas as crianças a mutação homozigótica no gene ATP6V1B1. Com estes dois casos pretende -se destacar a importância de um diagnóstico precoce nesta patologia rara

    Strong-coupling analysis of scanning tunneling spectra in Bi2_2Sr2_2Ca2_2Cu3_3O10+δ_{10+\delta}

    We study a series of spectra measured in the superconducting state of optimally-doped Bi-2223 by scanning tunneling spectroscopy. Each spectrum, as well as the average of spectra presenting the same gap, is fitted using a strong-coupling model taking into account the band structure, the BCS gap, and the interaction of electrons with the spin resonance. After describing our measurements and the main characteristics of the strong-coupling model, we report the whole set of parameters determined from the fits, and we discuss trends as a function of the gap magnitude. We also simulate angle-resolved photoemission spectra, and compare with recent experimental results.Comment: Published versio

    Development and validation of the Spanish hazard perception test

    Objective: The aim of the current study is to develop and obtain validity evidence for a Hazard Perception test suitable for the Spanish driving population. To obtain validity evidence to support the use of the test, the effect of hazardous and quasi-hazardous situations on the participants’ Hazard Prediction is analysed and the pattern of results of drivers of different driving experience: learner, novice and expert drivers and re-offender vs. non-offender drivers, is compared. Potentially hazardous situations are those that develop without involving any real hazard (i.e., the driver didn’t actually have to decelerate or make any evasive manoeuvre to avoid a potential collision). The current study analysed multiple offender drivers attending compulsory re-education programmes as a result of reaching the maximum number of penalty points on their driving licence, due to repeated violations of traffic laws. Method: A new video-based hazard perception test was developed, using a total of 20 hazardous situation videos plus 8 quasi-hazardous situation videos. They were selected from 167 recordings of natural hazards in real Spanish driving settings

    Stressful events during last year, violence and anxiety and depression: A moderated mediation model by sex

    he literature suggests that being subject to a stressful life and victimization may negatively affect mental health, and that women and men seem to differ in these variables. Nevertheless, neither the mediating role of victimization experiences in the relationship between stress and mental health, nor the moderated role of sex have been explored. A sample of 826 adults, aged from 18 to 77 years old, completed a set of self-reported questionnaires (69.4% women). Results revealed significant mediation effects of psychological violence on the relationship between stress, depression and anxiety. Participants who reported more stressful life events in the previous year, also reported higher psychological abuse, which in turn predicted higher depression and anxiety. Furthermore, the moderating effects of sex were found to be statistically significant. Results suggest that interventions should be tailored to individual needs in order to prevent secondary victimization derived from biased beliefs related to stress, violence and gender in professional practice.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
