Analysis of explanatory factors of profitability for wine firms in Castilla-La Mancha
The wine sector in recent decades is

results that business profitability comes from
three variables. First is company structure with
greater profitability for capitalist firms than for
cooperatives. Second is size where performance
is better the larger the size, taking advantage
of scale economies. Third is financial structure
with greater cost-effectiveness when the firm's
make- up prioritizes its own resources and
liquidity. On the contrary, the lack of permanent
financing to address fixed assets and a trade
dynamic orientated toward the sale of low-priced
bulk wine significantly reduce profitability ratios.

Wine is a multi-attribute product and one of great differentiation. Consumers do
not know wines’ intrinsic properties before its purchase; consumers need and look for
extrinsic signals that allow them to infer those intrinsic properties. To evaluate those
intrinsic wine properties, the article uses price as an extrinsic signal to express their value.
The price used is a comparison between the prices suggested by the specialized guides
and the ones proposed directly to the consumer at the on-line stores. With the hedonic
price methodology, which relates price and attributes, the article shows the convergence
between the value referenced (price) by the Spanish experts and the one paid (price) in
the Spanish market, the former being independent of the interests of the economic agents
and the latter not. Regional reputation is the only attribute that positively impacts the
price of Castilian wine and is prioritized in the ranking of attributes.

Cooperatives and sustainability drivers in the Spanish wine sector. What differences do we find with investor owner firms?
The fight against climate change has become a basic vector for agri-food business strategies. In Spain, commercial wineries (Investor Owner Firms, IOFs) and cooperatives are facing major challenges in adapting to the most stringent environmental requirements and in becoming sustainable and environmentally responsible companies. The European winemaking model, unlike its “new world” competitors, has a very distinct configuration with the predominance of the social economy in parallel with capitalist enterprises. However, these two forms of business organization are different in terms of objectives, position in the value chain, type of organization and form of management. The purpose of this paper is to determine whether these two types of companies have a different orientation towards sustainability, and which are the drivers that facilitate a greater approach to sustainability in each group. With a sample of 411 wineries, the results of the study show a lower orientation towards sustainability among the cooperatives, without a relevant alignment of their resources towards this objective. However, IOFs orient their resources towards sustainability in a consistent and strategic way. This may infer that the European model, with a clear advantage in the social component, could be somewhat more limited in the environmental aspect
The Demographic and Socio-Economic Profile of U.S. Wine Consumers (1972-2012)
This article presents a historical, empirical, and econometric description of American wine consumers’ demographic and socioeconomic characteristics (1972-2012). By the application of a general demand model that specifies the years of change in the structure of wine consumption in the U.S., it is shown that the evolution of wine consumption in the U.S. between 1972 and 2012 has three distinct stages; a first stage of growing wine consumption, a second stage of decline of wine consumption, and a third stage of recovery and substantial growth of wine consumption. With a model identifying the demographic and socioeconomic profile of the average American wine consumer for those years, it was then discovered that wine used to be a product associated with higher income, higher education level consumers; and it is now described as a product consumed by the younger generation, married people, and women
Sustainability hedonic environmental models applied to wineries
This study introduced the application of a new methodology to the assessment of sustainability for wineries in Spain. It adapted Rosen’s hedonic models, developed in other areas of the economy, to explain the environmental commitment of wineries in terms of trends in their attributes, considering: a) resources and capabilities; b) development variables; c) commercial factors. The database for the empirical analysis was drawn up from two surveys; the first was performed in 2016, and the second occurred between 2020 and 2021. Using the Box-Cox technique, the results showed that improving the companies' attributes, especially in human resources and management, exports and distribution via Horeca, promotes a greater valorization of sustainability by the wineries
Search for pairs of highly collimated photon-jets in pp collisions at s =13 TeV with the ATLAS detector
Results of a search for the pair production of photon-jets - collimated groupings of photons - in the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider are reported. Highly collimated photon-jets can arise from the decay of new, highly boosted particles that can decay to multiple photons collimated enough to be identified in the electromagnetic calorimeter as a single, photonlike energy cluster. Data from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.7 fb-1, were collected in 2015 and 2016. Candidate photon-jet pair production events are selected from those containing two reconstructed photons using a set of identification criteria much less stringent than that typically used for the selection of photons, with additional criteria applied to provide improved sensitivity to photon-jets. Narrow excesses in the reconstructed diphoton mass spectra are searched for. The observed mass spectra are consistent with the Standard Model background expectation. The results are interpreted in the context of a model containing a new, high-mass scalar particle with narrow width, X, that decays into pairs of photon-jets via new, light particles, a. Upper limits are placed on the cross section times the product of branching ratios σ×B(X→aa)×B(a→γγ)2 for 200 GeV<mX<2 TeV and for ranges of ma from a lower mass of 100 MeV up to between 2 and 10 GeV, depending upon mX. Upper limits are also placed on σ×B(X→aa)×B(a→3π0)2 for the same range of mX and for ranges of ma from a lower mass of 500 MeV up to between 2 and 10 GeV.Peer Reviewe
