    Article on three authors' views of a natural disaster.Like practically every single country, Mexico has had its fair share of pain and trauma. Bloodshed and utter devastation are rife in Mexico’s modern history. To civil wars and —in recent years— drug-related violence, one has to add the destruction and horror caused by earthquakes. The seism that devastated Mexico City on the 19th of September was the most destructive and painful in living memory. As an uncanny coincidence, also on the 19th of September, but in 2017, another earthquake hit the capital. Perhaps not surprisingly, Mexican novelists and poets have written profusely about their country’s long history of seismic destruction. Poet and journalist Manuel Gutiérrez Nájera —who ushered Mexican letters into Modernism— chronicled the earthquake of the 2nd of November 1894. For his part, Juan Rulfo — arguably Mexico’s most important fiction writer of the twentieth century— penned the “The Day of the Earthquake”, included in his collection of short stories The Plain in Flames, published in 1953. Rulfo uses a natural disaster and its toll as a metaphor for the unbridgeable gap between the political elites and the dispossessed. Finally, José Emilio Pacheco published a series of poems on the 1985 earthquake, the aftermath of which was felt not only in terms of human suffering, but also as a watershed event that ultimately resulted in social and political upheaval. An idiosyncratic brand of humour, trenchant criticism, and a sense of the ineffable before the enormity of utter devastation are some of the ways three of Mexico’s best poets and writers have found to cope with catastrophe and trauma

GDI basic philosophy is to guide the user about the "what" to do and the "how" to do it in each moment of the interaction process, without requiring from the user a previous knowledge to use the interface. This interaction style was introduced in previous work, where a description of its characteristics and the most appropriate user interface for it, were described. Those works included a methodology for the analysis and synthesis of the whole interactive process through a language of specification. This paper presents partial results we are collecting in real user testing, with the main aim of comparing GDI with direct manipulation interfaces (MD), nevertheless the most extended and commonly regarded as the most suitable for novice and experienced users.Universidad de Málaga.     A personal analysis of Paz's A Draft of Shadows from the perspective of a poet rewriting his own history.Pasado en Claro (A Draft of Shadows) was first published in 1975. This long poem is the mental journey Paz embarks upon in pursuit of his own personal paradise. This article focuses on three of important concepts Paz explores in this poem and in his literary output as a whole: the scope of language, memory and otherness. In the case of language, and its expression in poetry, Paz’s most eloquent pages can be found in The Bow and the Lyre (1956), but especially in The Monkey Grammarian (1970), the account of another journey, through language and the acts of writing and reading. As a personal attempt at regaining a mythical past, A Draft of Shadows affords a view of both the vast narrative of Mexican history and Paz’s personal retelling of his own past. A journey like this is only possible via the winding path of memory, its expression in language, and an identity created as it follows its own trail

    La Analogía Aplicada a la Traducción de Textos Literarios

    Ejemplificación práctica del uso de la analogía como base para la traducción literaria.La analogía, en su concepción más básica, es un procedimiento lógico que establece afinidades entre objetos disímbolos. La aplicación de este procedimiento, desde la óptica de Hofstadter (2013), permite encontrar similitudes y semejanzas entre un par textual: un texto literario y su correspondiente versión en español, entre Texto fuente y Texto meta (TO y TT), en la terminología habitual. La analogía ofrece criterios de evaluación de la calidad de TT. Este abordaje se aparta de los fundamentos de otras escuelas de corte más lingüístico. Sin embargo, se sujetó a las reglas impuestas por la naturaleza de TO, en especial, a las múltiples dificultades de orden semántico, fonético y fonológico, y de registro del lenguaje; en suma, se buscaron salidas viables a los escollos planteados por el propio texto fuente. Con esto, se buscó un apego que permitiera establecer similitudes (analogías) entre ambos extremos del par textual. La intención que guio el trabajo fue un apego a las formas literarias sancionadas por el uso y la tradición en la lengua y en el horizonte cultural de arribo, en este caso, el mundo de habla hispana.     The purpose of this investigation is to analyze three Spanish translations of Little Women offered by different publishing houses. I will focus mainly on how each translated work describes the leading characters and how this might change the reader's perception of them. It is well known that when translating a document, there is always the risk of losing some part of the original meaning and beauty either because of cultural differences or linguistic ones. Either way, these losses have to be kept to a minimum or, if possible, to be compensated by using multiple resources, in an attempt to maintain the writer’s intentions as well as to deliver the writer’s thoughts and feelings to the reader in the most complete and uncorrupted way. This research will focus on what happens when adequate translation is not accomplished. When the Spanish versions of Little Women are contrasted with the original written by Louisa May Alcott, it is possible to notice that, although it is true the mistranslations do not make the text impossible to be understood, they do diminish its quality; not to mention that the psychological constructions of a character - represented through words and behavior – are altered or omitted, therefore rendering them much more plain and Unrealistic

La poesía del gran luso”, en las voces de sus múltiples heterónimos”, es un recorrido por todos los rincones de la capital. Lisboa es el telón de fondo para muchos de los temas a los que Pessoa acude repetidamente en su vasta producción literaria: la sensación como vía hacia el conocimiento, los límites y alcances del lenguaje, la soledad de la mente creativa de Bernardo Soares, auxiliar de tenedor de libros, insomne en Lisboa. Como señala una buena parte de la crítica, Soares es el heterónimo más cercano al Pessoa ortónimo. Este trabajo analiza la forma en la que Lisboa se funde con Soares en un libro que ni siquiera es eso, sino una autobiografía sin hechos, una novela, un poema, un relato, un diario íntimo, una carta escrita por el mismo destinatario. Esta heterogeneidad constituye El Libro del desasosiego. Aquí, Soares y Lisboa establecen una relación dialéctica que difumina los límites entre el espacio urbano externo y el paisaje interno de Soares
