The IEEE 1906.1 Standard: nanocommunications as a new source of data

    Get PDF
Nanoscale communications is a new paradigm encompassing all those concerns related to the exchange of information among devices at the nanometer scale. A network infrastructure consisting of a huge amount of nano-devices is envisaged to ensure robust, reliable and coordinated data transmission. This will enable a plethora of forthcoming applications and services in many different research fields, such as personalized medicine, synthetic biology, environmental science or industry, which will lead to outstanding and unprecedented advances. The IEEE P1906.1 standard provides a conceptual and general framework to set the starting point for future developments in nanoscale communication networks. This paper reviews the latest IEEE P1906.1 recommendations, observing their main features when applied to the electromagnetic (EM) nanocommunication area. We contribute by identifying and discussing the principal shortcomings of the standard, to which further research efforts must be devoted. We also provide interesting guidelines for focusing the object of future investigations. This work has been supported by the project AIM, ref. TEC2016-76465-C2-1-R (AEI/FEDER, UE)

The Children Attachment Interview (EAN) is a new instrument based on story telling reports. The main purpose of this study is to analyze the structure and basic psychometric properties of the EAN through exploratory factor analyses based on a sample of 115 Spanish children aged 8 to 13 years (63 % boys). Another two matched samples from the risk social population and clinical population were compared with the main sample in order to obtain criterial validity. Findings reveal a multi-internal structure composed of four factors that refer to children´s reactions (positive, trustful, negative and mistrustful) and five factors that refer to child-attachment figure interactions (empathic, trustful, positive, rivalry and pro-arousal). Scales demonstrated adequate internal consistency. The comparison of scales between general and criterial groups, and correlations with related constructs indicate good construct validity. AbstractThe Children Attachment Interview (EAN) is a new instrument based on story telling reports. NOTICE: This is the peer reviewed version of the following article: Fuertes A, Juanes M, Granja J, Montenegro J. Supramolecular functional assemblies: dynamic membrane transporters and peptide nanotubular composites. Chem Commun. 2017;53(56):7861-7871. [doi: 10.1039/C7CC02997G]. This article may be used for non-commercial purposes in accordance with RSC Terms and Conditions for self-archivingThe fabrication of functional molecular devices constitutes one of the most important current challenges for chemical sciences. The complex processes accomplished by living systems continuously demand the assistance of non-covalent interactions between molecular building blocks. Additionally, these building blocks (proteins, membranes, nucleotides) are also constituted by self-assembled structures. Therefore, supramolecular chemistry is the discipline required to understand the properties of the minimal self-assembled building blocks of living systems and to develop new functional smart materials. In the first part of this feature article, we highlight selected examples of the preparation of supramolecular membrane transporters with special emphasis in the application of dynamic covalent bonds. In the second section of the paper we review recent breakthroughs in the preparation of peptide nanotubes hybrids with functional applications. The development of these devices constitutes an exciting process from where we can learn how to understand and manipulate supramolecular functional assembliesWe acknowledge funding from the Spanish Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI) (CTQ2014-59646-R and CTQ2016-78423-R), the Xunta de Galicia (ED431G/09 and 2016-AD031) and the ERDF. Geophysical Prospecting for Geothermal Resources in the South of the Duero Basin (Spain)

[EN]The geothermal resources in Spain have been a source of deep research in recent years and are, in general, well-defined. However, there are some areas where the records from the National Institute for Geology and Mining show thermal activity from different sources despite no geothermal resources being registered there. This is the case of the area in the south of the Duero basin where this research was carried out. Seizing the opportunity of a deep borehole being drilled in the location, some geophysical resources were used to gather information about the geothermal properties of the area. The employed geophysical methods were time-domain electromagnetics (TDEM) and borehole logging; the first provided information about the depth of the bedrock and the general geological structure, whereas the second one gave more detail on the geological composition of the different layers and a temperature record across the whole sounding. The results allowed us to establish the geothermal gradient of the area and to discern the depth of the bedrock. Using the first 200 m of the borehole logging, the thermal conductivity of the ground for shallow geothermal systems was estimated

Personality and contextual variables in teacher burnout

    Get PDF
Although several papers have shown the importance of personality structure in the disposition to burnout, its role remains controversial, especially in relation to contextual variables of an organizational and environmental type. In this sense, we have first considered describing and then predicting the burnout levels of 99 teachers in the province of Seville (Spain). In addition to a structured, self-applied interview, we have used the Spanish adaptation of the reduced version of NEO-PI-R (NEO-FFI) (Costa and McCrae, 1999) and the Spanish teachers version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) (Ferrando and Pe´rez, 1996). We have used Homogeneity Analysis and Multiple Linear Regression (SPSS 11). The results allow us to appreciate the important role of personality structure in combination with some of the selected contextual variables, both in the description and prediction of teacher burnout. Most results confirm what has been achieved in similar research, and they especially emphasize the role of agreeableness as a protective factor (high scores) and, at the same time, as a vulnerability factor (low scores). These results are discussed from the perspective of interaction between disposition and contextual variables

Temporal evolution of surfaces on materials after femtosecond laser irradiation: The earliest stages (Oral presentation)

Ablation using femtosecond lasers exhibits significant differences in comparison with the nanosecond timescales. Ultrashort laser-matter interaction provides the observation of different phenomena as there is neither laser-plasma interaction nor shielding, which makes remarkable the comprehension of these fundamental processes for improving analytical results. By the design and evaluation of a time-resolved microscope with a time resolution of less than 200 fs it is possible to develop a study focused on the associated processes during the earliest stages of laser ablation on several materials, attending to their nature as semiconductors, metals or insulators. The combination of this set up with an energy-resolved study applying energies above and below the plasma threshold of materials let us establish which are the physical and chemical parameters involved in plasma generation produced by lasers.Universidad de Málaga.
