An Overview on Prostate Pathophysiology: New Insights into Prostate Cancer Clinical Diagnosis

    Get PDF
The prostate is an accessory gland of the male reproductive tract, and its presence is universal in mammals. It is committed to the prostatic fluid production and storage, which is released with other semen components during ejaculation. Such fluid contributes to increasing motility and fertility of the spermatozoa, and the neutralization of the vagina, thus playing an important role in fertilization. Few pathological complications, often progressively aggravated with age, can affect this gland (i.e. benign and malignant proliferative changes; all to be described next in this chapter). Nowadays, the neoplastic expansion is the main motivator and contributor for studies on enlightening of growth regulation mechanisms and physiology of the prostate

This work is an experience report of academic teaching assistance activities carried out in the discipline of Animal Physiology II of the Veterinary Medicine course of Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG), now Universidade Federal de Jataí (UFJ). The monitoring activities in Animal Physiology II were carried out in the first semester of 2016. The discipline had a workload of 96 hours, distributed in 8 weekly hours, whose weekly classes are 6 theoretical hours and 2 practical hours. During this semester, a new form of assisting students was implemented in order to assess the performance of students as well as the monitors involved in the discipline, allowing a more concrete learning and higher performance and dedication of teaching assistants throughout the monitoring assistances given to students in Animal Physiology II

COMPATIBILITY OF AZOXYSTROBIN AND CYPROCONAZOLE ON PLANT GROWTH-PROMOTING MICROORGANISMS

Avoiding the toxicity effect of chemical fungicides on rhizobacteria is a sustainable alternative for agroecosystem management. Rhizobacteria, whose bioprotective and plant growth-promoter potential have been reported in the literature, lack studies on their performance in integrated management with pesticides. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of azoxystrobin + cyproconazole on the growth of Bacillus subtilis, Streptomyces seoulensis, and Bradyrhizobium japonicum. Three independent experiments were set up, i.e., one for each microorganism, and carried out in a completely randomized design in a factorial scheme (3 × 6), with three doses (recommended by the manufacturer, half, and twice) and six periods of evaluations (48, 96, 144, 192, 240, and 288 hours), with three replications. Growth inhibition rings were evaluated. Azoxystrobin + cyproconazole at all tested doses is compatible with B. subtilis. The use of azoxystrobin + cyproconazole affected the growth of B. japonicum and S. seoulensis, which were sensitive to all its doses until 288 hours after inoculation

Nursing care to elderly with bone fractures: an integrative review

Objective: To describe the profile of the elderly victims of bone trauma and as how nursing has been active in assisting these clients. Method: integrative Review, held in LILACS database with the keywords: Elderly, Nursing and Trauma, in order to answer the following question: >. Results: people over 80 years old suffer more trauma primarily with neuromotor weaknesses, using multiple medications and comorbidities. Nursing care for the elderly is still traumatized poor because there was a significant incidence of iatrogenic complications. Conclusion: the risk factors for the occurrence of traumatic events in the elderly favor the loss of quality of life, increased functional dependence, burden for caregivers and institutionalization. The records of care provide visibility and ensure continuity of care in a qualified way

Pancreatic collision tumor : mucinous cystadenoma and clear cell renal cell carcinoma metastasis

We present a clinical, radiological, surgical, and pathological correlation case of a 49-year-old woman with a prior nephrectomy due to a clear cell renal cell carcinoma, who was then diagnosed with a multilocular cystic lesion in the pancreatic tail after a routine ultrasound. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography showed a multilocular cystic lesion with a hypervascular wall nodule in the pancreas. The patient underwent a distal pancreatectomy and had a final diagnosis of pancreatic mucinous cystadenoma with an associated component of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (collision tumor of the pancreas)

This paper describes a study on the Queuing Theory in a Social Security Agency (SSA). In order to suggest improvements in services so as to reduce waiting time and optimise process flow, a case study was conducted in a SSA in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The data were collected through structured observation techniques and statistically analyzed. As an intervention instrument, tools used were the ones provided by the Queuing Theory, such as Single Queuing Nodes, Service Disciplines, Queueing Networks and Arrival and Service Processes. As a result, it was possible to determine the arrival processes, customer service and output, as well as the proximity to a service model as described in queuing theory, which allowed us to establish a profile of queue behaviour at the Agency
