Microencapsulation Yield Assessment Using TGA
In this study, microcapsules containing different contents of different kinds of fragrances and with a regular spherical shape, 2,0–8,0 µm diameter, were synthesized in various core:shell ratios. Mint and cuir fragrances were successfully encapsulated in poly(urea-formaldehyde) (PUF) shell via in-situ polymerization. This was confirmed by optical microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) studies. By observation from thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), it was found a relation between thermal gravimetric curves and the amount of fragrance encapsulated, which was later contrasted by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. In this way, comparatively, the yield percentage values can be quantitatively defined with a sufficient degree of accuracy by TGA methodPostprint (author's final draft
Exploratory Research for the Improvement of the Teaching of Spanish as a Second Language in a Spanish Public Center†
This paper is part of the R&D project DIPURE (El Discurso Público sobre los Refugiados en España in English Public Discourse on Refugees in Spain) and it is one of the research lines of the research group “Andalusian Circle of Applied Linguistics, HUM-194” on the study of teaching Spanish as a second language (SSL) for immigrants and refugees. Its objective is to establish a profile of Spanish second language (SL) students at the Official School of Languages (OSL). To meet this objective, we carried out an exploratory study based on mixed quantitative–qualitative methods, including, among other methods, participant observation and a Likert-type questionnaire used with students of the OSL in Granada, from level A1 to B2. The data obtained has allowed us to reflect on the migration process in Spain and on the work in the classrooms of a public center with students who study Spanish as a second language—their learning beliefs, needs, and attitudes, as well as didactic preferences. The information obtained is envisaged to improve the teaching practice of Spanish as a host language in a public educational context
In this paper, the need to integrate basic notions of semiconductor physics in the Physics and Chemical curriculum of
Secondary School is justified, as an essential support for learning basic electronics in the curricular area of
Technology. It is argued that its viability is possible if teachers have an adequate didactic and scientific knowledge on
the topic. Consequently, and as central nucleus of the work, the results of an investigation about the physics and
chemistry teachers‘ conceptions, in initial training, on basic semiconductor physics is showed and discussed
The nature of science in press articles about science: content analysis and paedagogical potential
Newspaper reports of certain pieces of science news have the pædagogical potential of
being able to introduce the Nature of Science (NOS) in science classes. This is illustrated in the present
paper with an interpretative content analysis of a repertoire of 40 physics-related news items published
in major Spanish newspapers. The analysis reveals that: (a) the information provided on NOS in the
vast majority of the news items was quite consonant with the currently accepted concept, and (b) it
suggests a diversity of pædagogical possibilities according to current trends in NOS teaching. Finally,
it should be stressed that reflexive analysis on NOS using science news items in the press ought to be
encouraged as a basic resource in science teacher education programs
This paper presents the action research (AR) as a suitable methodology to physics teachers’ professional selfdevelopment.
AR is presented as a qualitative research model oriented to improve the teaching praxis. The cyclicreflective
character of an AR is pointed out, and the dynamic sense of the hypotheses that guide its development:
action hypotheses. These are formulated with enunciates that induce the application of didactic and/or methodological
measuring in the classroom. Also the specific criteria of validation and reliability of an AR are analyzed
How to teach the nature of science through scientific research at school
The paper argues that a suitable scientific literacy in Electronics, as well as the acquisition of conceptual and procedural contents, should integrate the Science-Technology-Society interactions con-cerning this topic. This way, students can develop attitudes and capacities that allow them to evaluate critically the consequences —to short and long term— of the use (and abuse) of Electronics in the world through that they live. Results and conclusions of a descriptive study on Science-Technology-Society interactions integrated in Technology textbooks of secondary school are presented
«What have I understood? what do not I still understand?»: promoting self-reflection in science classroom
This paper presents an educational experience oriented to promote in students strategies of self-reflection of
learning. The aim was to encourage the basic competency for learning to learn in sciences classroom. The
experience was carried out in physics and chemistry classes with a natural group of 19 students aged 15-16 years.
A continued self-reflection of learning was encouraged among students, in a context of socioconstructivism
learning. Concretely, it was sought that they reflected about their difficulties and progresses during the learning
process, valuing the educational factors and situations that propitiated these. The self-reflections written by
students in their notebooks were analyzed. Also personal interviews were made in order to deep about it and to
complement the information obtained from notebooks. The results revealed that when students reflect on selflearning
they end up being aware of their achievements and difficulties of learning. Also students recognized that
self-reflection helped them to progress in their learning
