    Influence of the Impeller Speed on Phosphate Rock Flotation

    Flotation represents, at present, the technology capable of efficiently concentrate the minerals of interest, separating them from other gangue minerals. The flotation process is based on interactions between minerals (solid phase), water (liquid phase), and air (gas phase). However, it depends on physical forces driving the system. If mineral particles do not have enough momentum during the collision with the air bubble no attachment between them occurs, and consequently no flotation. Impeller rotation speed is undoubtedly a factor that changes the hydrodynamic conditions of the flotation system playing a vital role on it. It supplies the flotation system with air by suction, produces bubbles on the base of the cell, and stirs the pulp. By keeping the mineral particles in movement, the impeller rotation avoid fast sedimentation of the particles and gives the energy required for the particles attach themselves to the bubble. Although the impeller rotation has very high importance to the flotation, it also has a negative action on the system since it is one of the greater producer of turbulence in the flotation cell. The better understand the influence of the impeller rotation speed in the phosphate rock flotation experiments using a Denver cell with 3.0L cell were carried out using phosphate rock from Copebras/CMOC mine, a magmatic deposit situated in Ouvidor/GO/Brazil. Cornstarch (600 g/t) supplied by Cargill was used as depressant and Lioflot 502-A (500 g/t), a mix of fatty acids, supplied by Miracema-Nuodex was used as collector. The conditioning time was three minutes for the depressant and two minutes for the collector and flotation time was five minutes. The pH was kept at 9 with hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide, both at 1%. Five different impeller speeds were tested (1000, 1150, 1300, 1450, and 1600 RPM). All tests were performed in triplicate at room temperature and using tap water. Samples of the feed, concentrate and tailings were analyzed at Copebras S/A laboratory using an X-ray Fluorescence spectrometer AXIOX MAX series DY 5001 from PANalytical. Results show that an increasing in the impeller speed until 1450 RPM produces a reduction in the P2O5 content in the concentrate. Above this value the P2O5 content raises with the impeller speed. The higher grade obtained was around 34% of P2O5 at 1600 RPM

    WHY DO SMALL BUSINESSES INNOVATE? RELEVANT FACTORS OF INNOVATION IN BUSINESSES PARTICIPATING IN THE LOCAL INNOVATION AGENTS PROGRAM IN RONDÔNIA (AMAZON, BRAZIL)

    This study aimed to present the most relevant cognitive factors that influence innovation in activities of small businesses participating in the Local Innovation Agents program in Rondônia (Amazon, Brazil). Cognitive maps were used as a methodological approach for the study of a group of small businesses within the context of the project. The results indicated the existence of 14 relevant factors mentioned by the businesses assessed, highlighting two influence factors mentioned by all participants in some casual relationship, therefore, a consensus: “need for survival” and “knowledge and experience”. These factors indicate, respectively, motivation and innovation process management of the companies studied. The different relations among the factors allowed identifying two groups within the program. They differed primarily in regard of willingness to innovate and development of learning levels that influence innovation activities resulting from the interaction with the program’s agents

    Framework for health care quality and evidence-based practice in radiology departments: A regional study on radiographer's perceptions

    Introduction: The main goals of this study were to describe, in an integrated and multidimensional way, the conditions related to the quality of care in radiology departments from Algarve (Portugal), to assess the perspective of radiographers on the use of scientific evidence in clinical practice and to validate a model that characterizes the conditions for continuous improvement. Methods: A cross sectional study was performed in four radiology departments from public and private healthcare facilities from Algarve region (Portugal). A paper-based survey was sent to all radiographers to assess the quality systems implemented in their radiology departments and their perspective on the use of scientific evidence in clinical practice. Results: In total, 62 radiographers (61.4%) completed the survey. The quality dimensions that obtained the highest degree of compliance were the existence of quality assurance and improvement activities (43.0%), existence of standards in clinical practice of radiographers (42.7%) and the existence of special provisions (37.6%). The quality dimension related to patient’s involvement was the one with the lowest level of compliance. Moreover, from the radiographers perspective, positive responses were obtained related to evidence-based actions (83.0%), sources of evidence (76.0%) and the significance of research activities (74.0%).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    El modelo de gestión de Parques de Sintra: estudio de caso sobre el Palacio Nacional de la Pena

    Parques de Sintra - Monte da Lua, SA (PSML hereafter) is an entirely state owned company set up in 2000 subsequent to UNESCO classifying the Cultural Landscape of Sintra as World Heritage in 1995 and bringing together those institutions with responsibilities in this field as shareholders. The PSML public heritage management model is unique in Portugal. In 2014, the heritage sites received over 1.9 million visits and generating some €18.3 million in revenues and ranking the company as among the three most important cultural tourism poles in the country. The PSML mission involves restoring, maintaining, promoting and opening up the heritage managed for the public good. To ensure the maintenance and functioning of this heritage, the company draws exclusively on the revenues generated by site entrance tickets, by the cafeterias, the stores and by renting out such sites for events. For its investment projects, the company draws on its own income and whenever possible also seeks support from national and European subsidy programs. The Palace of Pena is the most visited monument in the Sintra Cultural Landscape having received around 900,000 visitors in 2014. We now present the PSML management model, applied across its different facets, and particularly in relation to the National Palace of Pena, explaining its economic sustainability, the relationships with visitors and the strategy deployed in the approach to heritage restoration and conservation intervention projects. This correspondingly focuses on aspects such as the “open for works” method, the projects implemented and the future perspectives as well as the “virtuous cycle” vision driving the model’s success: heritage restored and open to public enjoyment, greater and deeper visitor satisfaction, higher revenues, higher investment.Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua, SA (PSML) es una empresa de capitales exclusivamente públicos creada en el año 2000, después de que la UNESCO declarase en 1995 el Paisaje Cultura de Sintra Patrimonio Mundial. Agrupa a las instituciones con responsabilidades en la zona y que constituyen su accionariado, con la misión de recuperar, conservar, divulgar y abrir al público el patrimonio que gestiona. El modelo de gestión del patrimonio público de PSML es único en Portugal. En 2014 recibió a más de 1,9 millones de visitantes que generaron unos ingresos de cerca de 18,3 millones de euros, situándose entre los tres más importantes polos de turismo cultural del país. El Palacio de la Pena es el monumento más visitado del Paisaje Cultural de Sintra, con cerca de 900 mil visitantes en 2014. El mantenimiento y funcionamiento de las propiedades dependen exclusivamente de los ingresos que reportan las taquillas, las cafeterías, las tiendas y el alquiler de los espacios para eventos. La empresa también recurre a sus propios recursos para financiar sus inversiones, buscando en la medida de lo posible contar con el apoyo de programas nacionales y europeos. El modelo de gestión de PSML que se presenta, aplicado en sus diferentes vertientes y en especial al Palacio Nacional de la Pena, explicita su sostenibilidad económica, la relación con los visitantes y la estrategia utilizada en las intervenciones de recuperación y conservación del patrimonio.     TRABALHO NÃO POSSUI ABSTRACTA Gestão de Compras é uma atividade essencial para o gerenciamento de uma organização, seja ela pública ou privada, já que influencia diretamente em seus estoques e principalmente nos relacionamentos com seus cliente, no caso das organizações privadas; e com seus usuários, no caso das organizações públicas. Nas organizações privadas os gestores têm liberdade de ação, em que normalmente serão orientados pelas diretrizes da própria organização. No setor público, o processo de compras segue outra lógica e é regido pela lei de licitações, a qual visa garantir a observância do princípio constitucional da isonomia e proteger o interesse público selecionando a proposta mais vantajosa para a administração. Portanto, o presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar o processo de compras da Secretaria Municipal de Saúde do Município de Cabedelo - PB. Foi realizado um estudo de caso de caráter predominantemente qualitativo descritivo, em que foram feitas entrevistas com integrantes do setor de compras da Secretaria de Saúde, além da observação participante por parte do autor. Aspecto esse muito significativo para a coleta de dados e obtenção dos resultados esperados. Quanto aos resultados, foi destacada a importância do processo de compras em uma organização pública, os quais foram descritos e analisados, com base na legislação. Entretanto, foram identificados vários problemas nos processos licitatórios como: falta de planejamento, dificuldade na cotação de preços, falta de uma comissão de recebimento de materiais, falta de um fiscal de contrato, dificuldade de gerenciamento do processo, entre outros. Por fim foram elaboradas algumas sugestões para que o processo de compras seja mais ágil e transparente

    Aplicação de um engenheiro de registro (EDR) em barragens de acúmulo de água: benefícios na segurança

    Modern society depends heavily on the supply of water in abundance and with quality, for which dams are usually built. These constructions normally attract human occupation in their downstream regions. In this way, it is evident that the rupture of these structures puts the lives of local populations at risk, hence the importance of their security. Dam safety strongly depends on the organizational structure, the entrepreneur's philosophy and the technical responsibility of the actors involved. In this sense, this research sought to: present the concept of the Engineer of Record (EoR); its influence on continuous safety improvement; propose a work plan for this professional, applied to water accumulation dams, and; estimate the costs associated with your team. To this end, a survey was carried out of the Brazilian legislation focused on the safety of mining and water accumulation dams. A study was also carried out on the guidelines and safety parameters of dams in an international context, the history and application of EoR and, finally, the condition of water accumulation dams in Brazil. As mining dams have been through recent accidents, the laws and safety methodologies for these are stricter. Essas construções normalmente atraem ocupação humana nas suas regiões a jusante. Dessa forma, fica evidente que o rompimento dessas estruturas põe em risco a vida das populações locais, daí a relevância de suas seguranças. A segurança da barragem depende fortemente da estrutura organizacional, da filosofia do empreendedor e da responsabilidade técnica dos atores envolvidos. Neste sentido, esta pesquisa buscou: apresentar o conceito do Engenheiro de Registro (EdR); a sua influência na melhoria contínua da segurança; propor um plano de trabalho para este profissional, aplicado as barragens de acúmulo de água, e; fazer uma estimativa dos custos associados à sua equipe. Para tal, foi realizado um levantamento da legislação brasileira voltada à segurança das barragens de mineração e de acúmulo de água. Também foi feito um estudo sobre as diretrizes e os parâmetros de segurança de barragens em contexto internacional, o histórico e aplicação do EdR e, por fim, a condição das barragens de acúmulo de água no Brasil. Como as barragens de mineração passaram por acidentes recentes, as leis e as metodologias de segurança para estas são mais rigorosas. Assim, sob a luz desta experiência, foi proposto uma lista de ações para o EdR para barragens de acúmulo de água, dividido em duas etapas, a primeira para atendido a Política Nacional de Segurança de Barragens, e a segunda para a melhoria contínua da segurança da estrutura, além disso, foi feito uma estimava chegando ao valor de R 0,13 por m³ consumido para a implantação de uma equipe de EdR
