Enquadramento dos sistemas ERP numa arquitectura SOA: caso de estudo SAP® NetWeaver

Neste trabalho, propõe-se estudar o enquadramento dos Sistemas Integrados de Gestão Empresarial (Enterprise Resource Planning – ERP) numa Arquitectura Orientada a Serviços (Service Oriented Architecture – SOA) e quais os benefícios que podem ser obtidos no desenvolvimento de novas aplicações e integração com outros Sistemas de Informação (SI). Propõe-se fazer um levantamento da evolução e do estado da arte dos sistemas ERP e da arquitectura SOA. Para ter uma visão concreta, escolheu-se analisar um sistema ERP específico, o ERP da SAP e a plataforma tecnológica em que assenta, o SAP NetWeaver. Que estratégia tem sido seguida pelos principais fabricantes de sistemas ERPs, para enquadrar os seus sistemas ERP numa arquitectura SOA? Finalmente avalia-se o conceito de aplicação composta (Composite Application) baseada na arquitectura SOA, através da utilização de um Ambiente Integrado de Composição (Integrated Composition Environment – ICE). A plataforma utilizada para essa avaliação é o SAP NetWeaver Composition Enviroment (CE). Mais especificamente, desenvolve-se uma aplicação composta, resultante da combinação de serviços expostos pelo sistema ERP da SAP (enterprise services) e um Web Service instalado noutra plataforma

Virtual Models for Crystallography Teaching in Mineralogy: Some Suggestions

[Abstract] Crystallography concepts are usually among the most demanding subjects for Mineralogy students. Traditional onsite teaching of Mineralogy starts with physical models of crystal polyhedra and frequently also includes the observation of models of crystal structures. These teaching strategies could be difficult to implement under pandemic situations like the present one. But they also have other disadvantages under the usual access conditions as their use by the students is restricted by the number of students in relation to the number of models and by the availability of the models and teaching staff. Additionally, onsite teaching can pose challenges to both students and teachers with temporal or permanent disabilities. We consider here some possibilities of teaching with virtual models of crystal polyhedra, twinning, and crystal structures, based on some of the available freeware options and considering the main concepts taught in the usual Mineralogy syllabus.Portugal. Remote operations could be the future for Earth Sciences teaching: a speculative discussion

[Abstract] The current COVID-19 pandemic has created havoc in the regular workings of many institutions, such as those dedicated to teaching; therefore, there is an urge for alternatives to traditional face-to-face teaching. However, for certain subjects, such as Earth Sciences, distance-teaching approaches could be seen as counterintuitive to the essential foundations of the subject (where empirical information, especially from fieldwork, is considered paramount for its foundation and growth). In this work, we consider remote operations that could complement, improve, and perhaps even replace the traditional approach for teaching Earth Sciences, potentially producing better learning outcomes, even in relation to laboratory and fieldwork, including studies involving locations outside of planet Earth. Additionally, we consider the possible advantages for other professional settings related to this area, such as those concerning terrain characterization for engineering works, mineral resources, and environmental studies, as well as possible support for space missions and stations in other astronomical bodies (where mineral exploration and extraction could be developed and, hence, benefit from remote operations).Portugal. CAPACIDADES DE MARKETING E INOVAÇÃO ORGANIZACIONAL: UMA RELAÇÃO PARA VANTAGEM COMPETITIVA

The aim of this study was to verify the role of entrepreneurial intensity and marketing capabilities in organizational innovation and competitive advantage in service companies. A survey was conducted, with 480 companies, using structural analysis to evaluate the relationship between the different paths. The results indicate that entrepreneurship is an important denominator of marketing capabilities, lending support to theories of capabilities of competitive advantage. The results of this study also suggest that entrepreneurial companies seek both technological and non-technological innovation, and that both types of innovation lead to competitive advantage. This study contributes to the theory of marketing strategy for the development, refinement and testing of scales for measuring entrepreneurship, marketing capabilities, organizational innovation, and sustainable competitive advantage.O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar a função da intensidade empreendedora e das capacidades de marketing na inovação organizacional e na vantagem competitiva em empresas de serviços. Foi realizado um survey com 480 empresas e utilizada análise estrutural para avaliar as relações entre caminhos. Os resultados apontam que o empreendedorismo é um denominador importante das capacidades de marketing, fornecendo suporte para as teorias das capacidades da vantagem competitiva. Os resultados encontrados ainda sugerem que empresas empreendedoras buscam tanto a inovação tecnológica como a não tecnológica e que ambos os tipos de inovação levam a uma vantagem competitiva. O presente estudo se justifica pela contribuição para a teoria da estratégia de marketing, pelo desenvolvimento, refinamento e testes de medidas para a mensuração do empreendedorismo, das capacidades de marketing, da inovação organizacional e da vantagem competitiva
