ABSTRACT: The present work aims to bring to public, past and present research in the costal resources exploitation by Man and its consequences upon target species and the surrounding community. Particular attention is given to benthic molluscs and limpets in particular due to the occurrence of protandry (sex change from male to female during the life cycle) in some of the harvested species. The issues related to reproduction mode, hermaphroditism and sex change in animals are presented first as to introduce later chapters where these subjects are deepened. The final chapter presents relevant research of the use marine protected areas to the conservation of coastal species

Endoscopic removal of multiple sharp gastro-duodenal foreign bodies

A 45 years old female, with bipolar disorder, was brought to the Emergency Department with abdominal pain. The patient was hemodynamically stable, with no signs of respiratory distress. On abdominal examination she had pain in the upper quadrants, without peritoneal irritation. The successful endoscopic removal decreases if delayed approach, beyond 12 h, and sharp objects. Moreover in case of sharp objects, even if already into the stomach or duodenum, they should be retrieved endoscopically if it can be accomplished safely, because the risk of a complication during its natural exteriorization is as high as 35%. Extreme caution is required as it is easy to injure the wall of the gastrointestinal tract, in order to that one method involves using an overtube to protect the esophagus and another technique fashioning a protective hood. Instead we were able to remove all the needles without complication using the method described above. Lately we found in literature a similar description although using a sheath - a good option to obviate any risk for the endoscope.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Optimization of Printed TIPS-Pentacene Thin-Film Applied on OFET technology

The area of Printed Electronics is relatively new, but promises to make a revolution in several applications, particularly in smart cards and radio-frequency identification devices (RFIDs). However, to achieve this goal is of fundamental importance to progress towards printed transistors and complementary circuits. In this sense, this thesis aims to advance the research on printing Organic Field-Effect Transistors (OFETs), both ptype and n-type. The first step was to dominate the processing technique of thin films composed by TIPS-Pentacene (a p-type molecule), as well as to adjust the parameters of its solution to produce suitable electronic ink for inkjet printing. Other important step was to treat the surface dielectric layer, which is as important as the semiconductor layer for a good performance of an OFET. We choose poly(methyl metacrilate) (PMMA) as the insulator material. A detailed study of the morphology of printed TIPS-Pentacene was also carried out. After the deposition of the dielectric and the semiconductor layers, which showed good crystallinity index, we characterized the p-OFET and built a pMOS inverter, which shows to be promising in logical circuits. With these results in mind, the next step is to build a CMOS inverter-TIPS Pentacene / P(NDI2OD-T2) and thus pave the way for the manufacture of a complementary circuit
