O trabalho que se apresenta é um estudo retrospetivo de casos de uveítes caninas e foi realizado com o objetivo de fazer uma análise descritiva das uveítes nesta população e avaliar as suas causas, em especial a relação com doenças sistémicas

A Complex Case of Cholestasis in a Patient with ABCB4 and ABCB11 Mutations

The low-phospholipid-associated cholelithiasis (LPAC) syndrome is a form of symptomatic cholelithiasis occurring in young adults, characterized by recurrence of symptoms after cholecystectomy and presence of hepatolithiasis. The case refers to a healthy 39-year-old Caucasian male who presented with abdominal pain and jaundice. His blood tests showed conjugated hyperbilirubinemia and elevated liver enzymes (total bilirubin 6.65 mg/dL, γ-glutamyltransferase 699 IU/L) and abdominal computed tomography revealed dilation of common bile duct and left intrahepatic ducts. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography identified choledocholithiasis, retrieved by endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, after which there was a worsening of jaundice (total bilirubin 23 mg/dL), which persisted for several weeks, possibly due to ciprofloxacin toxicity. After an extensive workup including liver biopsy, the identification of two foci of hepatolithiasis on reevaluation abdominal ultrasound raised the hypothesis of LPAC syndrome and the patient was started on ursodeoxycholic acid, with remarkable improvement. Genetic testing identified the mutation c.1954A>G (p.Arg652Gly) in ABCB4 gene (homozygous) and c.1331T>C (p.Val444Ala) in ABCB11 gene (heterozygous). In conclusion, we describe the unique case of an adult male with choledocholithiasis, hepatolithiasis, and persistent conjugated hyperbilirubinemia after retrieval of stones, fulfilling the criteria for LPAC syndrome and with possible superimposed drug-induced liver injury, in whom ABCB4 and ABCB11 mutations were found, both of which had not been previously described in association with LPAC.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Decoherence induced by a phase-damping reservoir

A phase damping reservoir composed by $N$-bosons coupled to a system of interest through a cross-Kerr interaction is proposed and its effects on quantum superpo sitions are investigated. By means of analytical calculations we show that: i-) the reservoir induces a Gaussian decay of quantum coherences, and ii-) the inher ent incommensurate character of the spectral distribution yields irreversibility . A state-independent decoherence time and a master equation are both derived an alytically. These results, which have been extended for the thermodynamic limit, show that nondissipative decoherence can be suitably contemplated within the EI D approach. Finally, it is shown that the same mechanism yielding decoherence ar e also responsible for inducing dynamical disentanglement.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure

Seleção de genes endógenos para análise de qRT-PCR em sementes de café.

A técnica quantitativa de PCR em tempo real, qRT-PCR, permite analisar a expressão de genes alvo em diferentes condições experimentais. No entanto, a análise precisa dos resultados gerados pela qRT-PCR está diretamente relacionada ao gene normalizador utilizado, o qual deve apresentar expressão constitutiva semelhante para as diferentes amostras/tratamentos avaliados no experimento. Os genes normalizadores escolhidos para as análises em sementes podem diferir daqueles utilizados para as raízes e folhas. Este trabalho teve como objetivo a avaliação de genes normalizadores úteis ao estudo de expressão gênica em sementes. O experimento englobou sementes mantidas nos frutos, sementes desmuciladas mecanicamente ou por meio da fermentação. Essas sementes e frutos foram em seguida, secados à sombra ou em secador até atingirem os teores de água de 12% ou 35%, foram acondicionados em embalagens herméticas e mantidos em câmara fria (10ºC/ 40%UR) por um período de até 12 meses. Foram avaliados 11 genes candidatos a normalizadores, os quais foram escolhidos, previamente, em um estudo de microarranjos. As expressões e estabilidade destes genes foram avaliadas por meio dos softwares geNorm, NormFinder, Delta Ct e BestKeeper. Pela análise conjunta dos resultados obtidos a partir destes softwares, observou-se que a estabilidade de um gene normalizador é variável em função do fator experimental considerado. O gene da actina é indicado como normalizador nas análises de expressão gênica em sementes de café quando forem considerados todos os três fatores avaliados neste estudo, ou seja, processamento, secagem e armazenamento

A Comment on Quantum Distribution Functions and the OSV Conjecture

Using the attractor mechanism and the relation between the quantization of $H^{3}(M)$ and topological strings on a Calabi Yau threefold $M$ we define a map from BPS black holes into coherent states. This map allows us to represent the Bekenstein-Hawking-Wald entropy as a quantum distribution function on the phase space $H^{3}(M)$. This distribution function is a mixed Husimi/anti-Husimi distribution corresponding to the different normal ordering prescriptions for the string coupling and deviations of the complex structure moduli. From the integral representation of this distribution function in terms of the Wigner distribution we recover the Ooguri-Strominger-Vafa (OSV) conjecture in the region "at infinity" of the complex structure moduli space. Nasopharyngeal tuberculosis - A case report

A tuberculose (TB) é a doença infecciosa mais comum em todo o mundo. Tem várias apresentações possíveis, podendo atingir vários órgãos e inclusive mimetizar outras patologias, incluindo carcinomas. O aparecimento na nasofaringe é raro e o principal sintoma são linfadenopatias cervicais. Descreve-se um caso clínico de um adolescente de 16 anos, cujo diagnóstico de tuberculose nasofaríngea foi dificultado pela localização rara e pela negatividade da maior parte dos exames utilizados para o diagnóstico. O doente foi sujeito a terapêutica com tuberculostáticos durante um período de 9 meses verificando-se uma regressão completa do quadro. Muitas vezes só através da prova terapêutica é possível a atribuição de um diagnóstico definitivo. Em doentes com neoformações na nasofaringe e linfadenopatias cervicais é importante considerar TB como um diagnóstico diferencial.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Stock market series analysis using self-organizing maps

In this work a new clustering technique is implemented and tested. The proposed approach is based on the application of a SOM (self-organizing map) neural network and provides means to cluster U-MAT aggregated data. It relies on a flooding algorithm operating on the U-MAT and resorts to the Calinski and Harabask index to assess the depth of flooding, providing an adequate number of clusters. The method is tuned for the analysis of stock market series. Results obtained are promising although limited in scope. Neste trabalho é implementada e testada uma nova técnica de agrupamento. A abordagem proposta baseia-se na aplicação de uma rede neuronal SOM (mapa autoorganizado) e permite agrupar dados sobre a matriz de distancias (U-MAT). É utilizado um algoritmo de alagamento ("flooding") sobre a U-MAT e o índice de Calinski e Harabasz avalia a profundidade do alagamento determinando-se, assim, o número de grupos mais adequado. O método é desenhado especificamente para a análise de séries temporais da bolsa de valores. Os resultados obtidos são promissores, embora se registem ainda limitações
