EMARGINAZIONE E RITORNO GLORIOSO. FILOTTETE ED EFESTO

Il personaggio di Filottete è noto come emblema di sofferenza; è abbandonato infatti dai Greci in viaggio verso Troia sull’isola di Lemno a causa di una ferita, ma sarà ripreso dai suoi commilitoni, che senza di lui non possono espugnare la città. Questa fase di reintegrazione ci è nota da pochi testi tardi e ancor più scarse testimonianze figurative. La situazione appare rovesciata a proposito di Efesto, che pur essendo un dio subisce una analoga vicenda di emarginazione; in questo caso, è proprio il momento del ritorno glorioso sull’Olimpo a essere rappresentato nelle arti figurative. The character of Philoctetes is a renowned emblem of grief; indeed, he is abandoned on the island of Lemnos by the Greeks travelling towards Troy, due to a wound. However, he is subsequently collected by his comrades in arms, who cannot take the city by storm without him. Only a few, late texts and even more limited iconographic evidence convey the character’s reinstatement. A reverse dynamic occurs with regard to Hephaestus, who undergoes a similar case of segregation, despite being a god; in this case, iconography focuses precisely on Hephaestus’s glorious return
