Avances en la arquitectura geriátrica en Galicia: el geriátrico de la Fundación José Otero-Carmela Martínez

[Resumen] Se investigaron los avances en la arquitectura geriátrica en Galicia a través del análisis del edificio que la Fundación José Otero-Carmela Martínez construyó en la ciudad de Santiago de Compostela. El geriátrico está localizado en el borde del ensanche, junto al parque Eugenio Granell, uno de los más grandes de la ciudad. En este edificio se ha procurado emplear los últimos adelantos tecnológicos, así como el más completo abanico de servicios, pensando en la comodidad de los residentes. Se ha pretendido aportar alegría y frescura al centro mediante el diseño, para lo cual se modifica el muro cortina tradicional y se convierte en uno que juega con paños de vidrio transparente y paneles opacos, que fragmentan la visión del parque, y dan color al edificio. La sostenibilidad se ha conseguido mediante el empleo de sistemas de energía renovable de bajo consumo, que permiten al centro estar en vanguardia en confort, con un gasto energético y económico muy inferior a otros edificios de características similares.[Abstract] Investigáronse os avances na arquitectura xeriátrica en Galicia a través da análise do edificio que a Fundación José Otero-Carmela Martínez construíu na cidade de Santiago de Compostela. A sostibilidade conséguese mediante o emprego de sistemas de enerxía renovable de baixo consumo, que permiten ó centro estar na vangarda en confort, cun gasto enerxético e económico moi inferior a outros edificios de características semellantes.[Resumo] Advances in geriatric architecture in Galicia were assessed by analysis the nursing home for the elderly built by the José Otero-Carmela Martinez Foundation in the city of Santiago de Compostela (Northwestern Spain). The nursing home is located on the outskirts of a suburb next to the Eugenio Granell Park, one of the largest in the city. The building was designed with state-of-theart technology, and a wide range of services to cater for the needs of the residents. A key architectural feature is the façade that seeks to transmit a sense of joy and freshness to the Centre, steering away from the curtain wall traditional through the juxtaposition of transparent sheets of glass and opaque panels that fragment the view of the Park and bring colour to the building. Sustainability is achieved through the use of energy-saving renewable energy devices which allow for the greatest comfort at the lowest costs in comparison to other buildings of similar characteristics

Do Gender, Discipline, and Mental Rotation Influence Orientation on “You-Are-Here” Maps

A common challenge people encounter in unfamiliar cities is finding their way using static maps. In the present study, we analyzed the relationship of a person’s mental rotation ability, college educational specialization (e.g., Architecture, Fine Arts, Psychology, and Business Studies), and sex with personal orientation when using “you-are-here” maps. We recruited a sample of 547 individuals, undergraduates who were tasked with orientation maps placed in different positions (e.g., 0º, 90º, and 180º). All three variables were related to the number of correct responses in orientation using these “you-arehere” maps. Participants with high mental rotation ability obtained significant higher correct orientations than those with low ability. Men obtained more correct orientations responses than women, and Architecture, Fine Arts, and Psychology undergraduates had more correct responses than Business Studies undergraduatesS

Constrained Variational Calculus for Higher Order Classical Field Theories

We develop an intrinsic geometrical setting for higher order constrained field theories. As a main tool we use an appropriate generalization of the classical Skinner-Rusk formalism. Prototype of a robotic system to assist the learning process of English language with text-generation through DNN

In the last ongoing years, there has been a significant ascending on the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) for performing multiple tasks including English Language Teaching (ELT). An effective strategy to favor the learning process uses interactive devices to engage learners in their self-learning process. In this work, we present a working prototype of a humanoid robotic system to assist English language self-learners through text generation using Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) Neural Networks. The learners interact with the system using a Graphic User Interface that generates text according to the English level of the user. The experimentation was conducted using English learners and the results were measured accordingly to International English Language Testing System (IELTS) rubric. Begomovirus quasispecies adapt to hosts by exploring different sequence space without changing their consensus sequences

Geminiviruses possess single-stranded circular DNA genomes that depend on cellular polymerases for replication in the host nucleus. In plant hosts, geminivirus populations behave as ensembles of mutant and recombinant genomes. This favours the emergence of new geminivirus strains able to produce new diseases or overcome the genetic resistance of cultivars. In warm and temperate areas several whitefly-transmitted geminiviruses of the genus Begomovirus cause the tomato yellow leaf curl disease (TYLCD) with important economic consequences. TYLCD is frequently controlled in commercial tomato production using the Ty-1 resistance gene. Over a 45 day period we studied the evolution of infectious clones from three TYLCD-associated begomoviruses: Tomato yellow leaf curl Sardinia virus, Tomato yellow leaf curl virus and the recombinant Tomato yellow leaf curl Axarquia virus. The evolution of their viral progeny was examined in susceptible tomato (ty1/ty1), resistant tomato (Ty1/ty1), common bean, and the wild reservoir Solanum nigrum. We found that in addition to affecting viral accumulation kinetics, the host influenced the sequence space explored by these begomoviruses. In tomato, viral dynamics was not influenced by the presence of the Ty-1 gene. Interestingly, positive adaptation of the coat protein gene was only observed in the common bean and S. nigrum, which correlates with these plants having viral quasispecies with the highest degree of complexity and heterogeneity. Our results underline the importance of analysing the mutant spectra of begomovirus infections, especially in wild reservoirs, which have the potential to give rise to large numbers of emergent variants in spite of the invariance of their consensus sequences.Junta de Andalucía proyecto: P10-CVI-6561. Association between hypertension and immunosuppression in SARS-CoV-2 infection

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has caused more than 32 million cases and almost a million deaths. Recent reviews have evidenced the role of hypertension in prognosis, nevertheless, its association with immunosuppression in COVID-19 context has not been studied. It was performed a cross-sectional analysis of a large Mexican population with the infection (n= 681 890). Prevalence of immunosuppression and hypertension was 1.10% and 19.50%, respectively. The adjusted model evidenced that hypertension was significantly associated with immunosuppression (odds ratio=1.18, 95% CI=1.11-1.25). Furtherresearch in pathways thatjustify the association between hypertension and immunosuppression in COVID-19 patients is recommended.Campus Lima Centr
