A Broadband Bow-Tie Cavity-Backed Slot for Traveling-Wave Arrays in the Millimeter-Wave Band
The use of bow-tie geometries to enhance the characteristics of a radiating element previously proposed by
the authors is presented. The previous element consisted of a broadband cavity-backed slot in transmission configuration. The bow-tie shape of the cavity improves the bandwidth of the element and the bow-tie slot keeps constant the amount of power radiated. The structure is designed for the millimeterwave band. The enhancement of the element performance is shown through simulation results. A fractional bandwidth of
more than 100% is achieved in the 70 GHz band, and the radiated power remains almost constant throughout 30 GHz of the bandwidth. These results show a great improvement over the original radiating element. The radiating structure has the ideal characteristics for building series-fed reconfigurable arrays for wide-band applications in the millimeter-wave band.
Poly-Harmonic Distortion Model Extraction in Charge-Controlled One-Port Devices
A charge-controlled, one-port device is used to
describe and discuss the extraction procedure of a Poly-Harmonic Distortion (PHD) model in detail. For this case, both voltage and current waveforms are shown to be enough to fully characterize the PHD model. It is also shown that all the information
specifically required for this PHD model definition can be stored in the Fourier coefficients of the incremental conductance and capacitance. The results are validated by comparing them with those obtained using a commercial circuit simulation tool.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech
Equivalent Circuit Modelling of Non-Symmetric Reciprocal Lossy Electromagnetic Structures
Lattice-network-based equivalent circuits of lossy symmetric reciprocal electromagnetic structures have shown superior performance when compared to other topologies like the T- or PI- networks. This is due to the realizability of their elements and the orthogonal-mode decomposition, which, in most cases, provides a deep physical insight into the behaviour of the modelled structure. The aim of this contribution is to provide a short description of these equivalent circuits and to compare their
performances by modelling a misaligned complementary strip-slot element.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech.

On the Phase Response and Radiation Efficiency of the Complementary Strip-Slot as an Array Element
The complementary strip-slot element is a broadlymatched
microstrip radiator that has been used to design innovative
series-fed arrays. It consists of a microstrip series-fed slot
that have its complementary stub on the layer of the microstrip
and aligned to the slot. In this contribution, the influence of the
strip and slot geometry on its performance is studied through the
analysis of four different designs. The obtained results highlight
the possibility of controlling the radiation efficiency or the phase
response, without compromising the broad matching. Therefore,
potential series-fed arrays built with this element can exploit this
feature to set the magnitude and phase of the excitations with
certain flexibility.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech. This work was supported by the Spanish Ministerio de

Non-homogeneous Fabry-Pérot Antenna Design at Ku-band
A novel technique to design Fabry-Pérot antennas with non-homogeneous PRS is described. It takes advantage of a transmission line circuit model to efficiently obtain all necessary unit cell designs that satisfy the cavity resonance condition. This approach allows an increase in directivity for a given footprint without decreasing the bandwidth. Some design examples are presented, showing the evolution from a simple single-layer PRS to a non-homogeneous two-layers one. Through electromagnetic simulations, the latter one achieves an increase of about 3 dB in directivity while maintaining the bandwidth. This way, the gain-bandwidth product is improved from a value of 5 to almost 9, effectively raising the antenna efficiency. This work has been supported by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (MCIU) (Contrato Juan de la Cierva-Incorporación) under Grant IJC2018-038440-I and by the MCIU/AEI/FEDER (Programa Estatal de I+D+i Orientada a los Retos de la Sociedad) under grant RTI2018-097098-J-I00.

An ideal ‘made-up’ device is built from the measured bias dependence of a GaN medium power device. This ideal device is excited by two ideal voltage sources and its response (drain current) is used to illustrate how the extraction procedure can separate conduction and displacement current components provided the total current spectrum (or, alternatively, waveform) and control voltages are known. This work has been supported by the Junta de Andalucía under Grant (TIC2012-1237). Elemento radiante de banda ancha en microstrip cerrada para arrays alimentados en serie
A previous radiating element in transmission configuration proposed by the authors is alternatively implemented using enclosed microstrip configuration. The new implementation overcomes fabrication issues and improves its compatibility with microstrip technology. Simulation and measurement of the
element show a broad impedance bandwidth and a unilateral radiation pattern. To illustrate the applicability of the element, a preliminary analysis of a leaky-wave series-fed array with 7 radiating elements is carried out. Simulation results of the array show a 48% fractional bandwidth and a single, frequencysteerable beam.

Building Arrays with the Unidirectional-Radiating Complementary Strip-Slot
This work was supported by the Spanish Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte (Programa para la Formación del Profesorado Universitario) under grant FPU15/06457, by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovaci´on y Universidades (MCIU) (Contrato Juan de la Cierva-Incorporaci´on) under Grant IJC2018-038440-I, and by the MCIU, AEI, and FEDER (Programa Estatal de I+D+i Orientada a los Retos de la Sociedad) under grant RTI2018-097098-J-I00.An upgraded version of the complementary stripslot radiating element is reviewed. The original radiating element
consists in a microstrip-fed slot in transmission configuration. In the proposed modification, the slot is backed by a cavity in order
to obtain unidirectional radiation. The presence of this cavity changes the behavior of the slot. A new equivalent circuit is
used to propose a design methodology for broadband operation. Two array designs are simulated and implemented: a phased
array and a log-periodic array. Promising experimental results verify the unidirectional radiation and the wide bandwidth of
these antennas.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech
