Bologna 2015: the state of things

O estudo aborda, em primeiro lugar, o enquadramento político/educacional da formação inicial de professores no quadro do recentemente criado Espaço Europeu de Ensino Superior esgrimindo argumentos que ajudem a perceber se um tal projecto político pretende legitimar uma lógica de mudança orientada para o desenvolvimento humano de carácter cooperativo e emancipatório ou de índole economicista no quadro da globalização neoliberal. Num segundo tempo, apresenta-se uma análise crítica sucinta da organização actual da formação inicial de professores como resultado da escolha feita entre as duas lógicas de mudança acima referidas. O estudo debruça-se em seguida sobre problemas e dilemas suscitados pelo desenvolvimento do processo em curso e apresenta propostas de melhoramento sustentadas no quadro de uma participação cidadã.The study first deals with the political/educational framework of initial teacher training in the newly frame created named European Higher Education Area brandishing arguments that help to understand whether such a political project aims to legitimize a change of logic-oriented human development either cooperative and emancipatory or economistic nature in the context of neoliberal globalization. In a second time, it presents a brief critical analysis of the current organization of initial teacher education because of the choice made between the two above-mentioned logic changes. The study focuses then on issues and dilemmas raised by the development of the ongoing process and presents proposals for improvement sustained in the context of citizen participation

Scientific culture and the defence of citizenship

Sendo certo que a construção da cidadania deve abarcar outras dimensões da vida intelectual e social que não se esgotam na cultura científica, não é menos verdade que, tendo em conta a amplitude dos processos de cientificização das sociedades modernas, importa criar oportunidades e condições para que os cidadãos desenvolvam uma adequada cultura científica, aqui entendida como a qualidade que dá sentido e orientação ao conhecimento científico, questionando - o se necessário, e que não deve confundir-se com ele. Neste estudo, pretende-se apoiar a reflexão crítica sobre o papel da cultura científica na construção e defesa de uma cidadania responsável, suas limitações e sugestões de melhoria no quadro de sociedades modernas que se querem abertas e democráticas.La construcción de ciudadanía debe abarcar otras dimensiones de la vida intelectual y social que no solamente la cultura científica. Sin embargo, no es menos cierto que, habida cuenta de la magnitud de los procesos de cientificación de las sociedades modernas, es importante crear oportunidades y condiciones para los ciudadanos a desarrollar la cultura científica adecuada, entendida aquí como la calidad que da sentido y dirección a los conocimientos científicos, lo cuestionan si es necesario, y no deben confundirse con él. En este estudio, pretendemos apoyar la reflexión crítica sobre el papel de la cultura científica en la construcción y defensa de una ciudadanía responsable, sus limitaciones y sugerencias para la mejora en el contexto de las sociedades modernas, abiertas y democráticas.The construction of citizenship should encompass other dimensions of intellectual and social life and not be reduced to scientific culture. However, in view of the magnitude of the scientific development of modern societies, it is important to create opportunities and conditions for citizens to develop an adequate scientific culture, here understood as the quality that gives meaning and direction to the scientific knowledge, questioning it if necessary, and that should not be confused with it. In this study, we intend to support the critical reflection on the role of scientific culture in the construction and defense of a responsible citizenship, limitations and suggestions for improvement in the context of modern societies who must be open and democratic

Química nova na escola: um caso de sucesso

Seguindo uma sugestão dos editores da QNEsc para marcar este seu vigésimo aniversário, apresentam-se, neste estudo, contributos para uma melhor compreensão do papel tido da revista na valorização da educação em química em Portugal. Tais contributos podem ser organizados em dois grandes grupos segundo a sua pertinência para o ensino/formação ou para a investigação e têm por base quer a experiência de outros colegas por meio de registros que me foi possível consultar, quer a minha extensa experiência profissional. Os resultados mostram que a QNEsc tem uma penetração não negligenciável na educação em química em Portugal e um grande potencial de afirmação, em particular, no ensino e no apoio à formação de professores. A terminar, apresentam-se sugestões de melhoria para reflexão da direcção da revista.Química Nova na Escola: a successful story. Following a suggestion from editors of QNEsc to mark its twentieth anniversary, this study presents contributions to a better understanding of the role of QNEsc in fostering Chemical Education in Portugal. Such contributions can be organized into two major groups according to their relevance to the teaching or to the research and are based both on the experience of other colleagues and in my extensive professional experience. The results show that the QNEsc has a non-negligible influence in Chemical Education in Portugal and a great potential of affirmation, in particular in chemistry teaching and in teacher education. Finally, suggestions of improvement for reflection of the direction of the journal are presented

Cores e corantes dos bordados de Castelo Branco: interação de contextos formais e não formais na educação em química

Els brodats de colors de Castelo Branco (Portugal) van ser objecte del desenvolupament d'un projecte per millorar la relació entre l'educació formal i no formal en química i en la formació de professors i divulgadors de la cultura. La qüestió principal se centra en la possibilitat d'identificar i obtenir els tints antics i actuals que s'utilitzen per tenyir la seda. Es presenten dues activitats experimentals: l'extracció d'un colorant natural i l'ús de mordent amb un tint sintètic.The colourful embroidery of Castelo Branco (Portugal) was the theme for the development of a project that enhances the relationship between formal and non-formal contexts in chemistry education and in the training of teachers and cultural animators. The central question concerns the possibility of identifying and obtaining the old and modern dyes that are used for dyeing silk. We present two experimental activities: extraction of a natural dye and use of mordant with a synthetic dye

Concepciones de futuros profesores del primer ciclo de primaria sobre la naturaleza de la ciencia : contribuciones de la formación inicial

Research studies have showen that the image of science that students construct during their formal learning is strongly influenced by the teacher's conceptions about the nature of scientific knowledge. It is then fundamental to investigate the impact of initial teacher's education in the development of those conceptions in future teachers. The aim of this article is to present a study about the contribution of the three year initial teacher education, of basic education teachers (1st cycle - 6/10 years olds), in the development of their conceptions about the nature of science. The results show that the initial teacher education, as it has been developed in teacher training institutions, does not significantly influence the ideas held by future teachers about the nature of science
