The focus of this project is to improve oral and written proficiency and enhance cultural awareness of students enrolled in Spanish III Honors. Students will improve and learn effectively through weekly exercises that focus on critical thinking, synthesizing in Spanish and working collaboratively. Emphasis will be placed on reciprocal teaching and cooperative learning. We plan for the students to each choose a Spanish speaking country that they will research based on monthly topics, and then share the information found with their classmates. Students will be assessed at the beginning of the project in October and again in March through taped interviews and written tests

Interculturalidad e interdisciplinariedad.

The predominance of trivial themes and stereotypical characters represented in most of the plays performed in the commercial theatre of the decades of the twenties, thirties and forties in Spain and Argentina determined that they would be pejoratively described as of "low quality." Some critics have even talked about a "crisis in theater." Both nations responded to this "perceived crisis" in similar fashion, mostly by developing groups of "Independent Theater," and staging plays by innovative directors and new and original playwrights. This dissertation studies the ways in which the theater of Spain and Argentina responded to their precarious drama situation and analyzes the similar ways on which they contributed to the improvement of their own national theaters. The first chapter examines the socio-historical situation in Spain and Argentina and how it affected the stage. I discuss the "crisis in theater" in both nations and their connections concerning companies, actors, writers and critics. The second chapter focuses on the "Independent Theater" that emerged in these two countries and that shared the pedagogical objective of educating the taste of the audience. I specifically focus on the parallelisms between two of these groups, one on each side of the Atlantic, which share the name "Teatro del Pueblo." The analysis of parallelism between two plays--La sirena varada (1934) by the Spaniard Alejandro Casona and La cola de la sirena (1941) by the Argentinean Conrado Nalé Roxlo--is the topic of my third chapter. I consider these plays representatives not only of the new wave of authors but also of the theatrical interconnections between the two countries. This transatlantic study foregrounds the complex relationships between the stages of Argentina and Spain during the fist half of the century, and problematizes the lack of interaction between both stages promoted by previous criticism

In this article we present the autopsy of a young man who died in hospital by excited delirium. It is a syndrome characterized by agitation, aggression, acute distress and sudden death. It is typically associated with the use of abuse drugs, as cocaine. It is generally accompanied by a restriction´s methods carried out by securiy forces or hospital staff. It entails that this death can be classified whitin the group of deaths in custody. The death in custody is that death that takes place whe the victim is deprived of freedom. It has a legal repercussion undoubted, since it is considered to be a prototype of death suspected of criminal origin

Functional and bioactive properties of collagen and gelatin from alternative sources: A review

The rising interest in the valorisation of industrial by-products is one of the main reasons why exploring different species and optimizing the extracting conditions of collagen and gelatin has attracted the attention of researchers in the last decade. The most abundant sources of gelatin are pig skin, bovine hide and, pork and cattle bones, however, the industrial use of collagen or gelatin obtained from non-mammalian species is growing in importance. The classical food, photographic, cosmetic and pharmaceutical application of gelatin is based mainly on its gel-forming properties. Recently, and especially in the food industry, an increasing number of new applications have been found for gelatin in products such as emulsifiers, foaming agents, colloid stabilizers, biodegradable film-forming materials and micro-encapsulating agents, in line with the growing trend to replace synthetic agents with more natural ones. In the last decade, a large number of studies have dealt with the enzymatic hydrolysis of collagen or gelatin for the production of bioactive peptides. Besides exploring diverse types of bioactivities, of an antimicrobial, antioxidant or antihypertensive nature, studies have also focused on the effect of oral intake in both animal and human models, revealing the excellent absorption and metabolism of Hyp-containing peptides. The present work is a compilation of recent information on collagen and gelatin extraction from new sources, as well as new processing conditions and potential novel or improved applications, many of which are largely based on induced cross-linking, blending with other biopolymers or enzymatic hydrolysis. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd.Peer Reviewe

Cyberbullying, psychosocial adjustment and suicide ideation in adolescence

    Get PDF

Electrophoretic Deposition of Transparent ZnO Thin Films from Highly Stabilized Colloidal Suspensions

The parameters that control the stability of ZnO-nanoparticles suspensions and their deposition by electrophoretic deposition were studied, so as to organize the assembly and compaction of nanoparticles. The addition of cationic polyelectrolyte - Polyethylenimine (PEI) - with different molecular weights was investigated, in order to study their effectiveness and the influence of the molecular weight of the organic chain on suspensions dispersion. It was found that PEI with the highest molecular weight provided better dispersion conditions. Cathodic EPD was performed under previously optimized suspensions conditions and over electropolished stainless steel substrates. Experimental results showed that the EPD process in these conditions allows obtaining dense transparent ZnO thin films. Deposition times and intensities were optimized by analyzing the resulting thin films characteristics. Finally, the deposits were characterized by FE-SEM, AFM, and different spectroscopic techniques
