Attachment, Physiological and Familial Vulnerability in Childhood Obesity: an Interactive Multisystem Approach
The aims of the present study were to test the association between insecure attachment and basal cortisol and catecholamines levels in a sample of obese children. The role of familial vulnerability and gender was also investigated.
Methods: Cortisol and catecholamines levels of 8- to 13-year olds obese children were measured. Self-report questionnaires were used to assess attachment pattern and current anxiety and depression, and parent-report questionnaires were used to assess attachment, current anxiety and depression and familial vulnerability. Linear regression analyses were performed for individuals that scored low versus high on parental internalizing problems, and for boys and girls, separately.
Results: In the group with high parental internalizing problems, insecure attachment was significantly associated with reduced basal levels of cortisol, in boys (p=0.007, b= -0.861, R2= 73.0%). In the group with low parental internalizing problems, the association between insecure attachment and cortisol was not significant in either boys or girls, and it was negative in boys (p=0.075, b= -0.606, R2= 36.7%) and positive in girls (p=0.677, b= 0.176, R2= 3.1%) .
Conclusions: Apparently, physiological risk factors for psicopathology in obesity are more evident in individuals with a high familial vulnerability. In addition, patterns of physiological risk for psicopathology in obesity are different in boys and girls. Therefore, it is important to take into account familial vulnerability and gender when investigating physiological risk factors for psycopathology in obesity. Insecure attachment in childhood may be a risk factor for obesity. Interventions to increase children's attachment security should examine the effects on children's weight
Modeling of light-sensitive resonant-tunneling-diode devices
We present a method to include the effects of light excitation on two different models of resonant-tunneling-diode-based devices. Our approach takes into account both photoconductive and charge accumulation effects responsible for shifting the static I âV curve when the structure is under light excitation. Computational simulations led to good agreement between the model and experimental result
Star-forming dwarf galaxies in the Virgo cluster: the link between molecular gas, atomic gas, and dust
We present CO(1-0) and CO(2-1) observations of a sample of 20
star-forming dwarfs selected from the Herschel Virgo Cluster Survey, with
oxygen abundances ranging from 12 + log(O/H) ~ 8.1 to 8.8. CO emission is
observed in ten galaxies and marginally detected in another one. CO fluxes
correlate with the FIR 250 m emission, and the dwarfs follow the same
linear relation that holds for more massive spiral galaxies extended to a wider
dynamical range. We compare different methods to estimate H2 molecular masses,
namely a metallicity-dependent CO-to-H2 conversion factor and one dependent on
H-band luminosity. The molecular-to-stellar mass ratio remains nearly constant
at stellar masses <~ 10 M, contrary to the atomic hydrogen
fraction, M/M, which increases inversely with M. The flattening
of the M/M ratio at low stellar masses does not seem to be related
to the effects of the cluster environment because it occurs for both
HI-deficient and HI-normal dwarfs. The molecular-to-atomic ratio is more
tightly correlated with stellar surface density than metallicity, confirming
that the interstellar gas pressure plays a key role in determining the balance
between the two gaseous components of the interstellar medium. Virgo dwarfs
follow the same linear trend between molecular gas mass and star formation rate
as more massive spirals, but gas depletion timescales, , are not
constant and range between 100 Myr and 6 Gyr. The interaction with the Virgo
cluster environment is removing the atomic gas and dust components of the
dwarfs, but the molecular gas appears to be less affected at the current stage
of evolution within the cluster. However, the correlation between HI deficiency
and the molecular gas depletion time suggests that the lack of gas
replenishment from the outer regions of the disc is lowering the star formation

Ages, metallicities and -element enhancement for galaxies in Hickson compact groups
Central velocity dispersions and eight line-strength Lick indices have been
determined from 1.3 resolution long-slit spectra of 16 elliptical
galaxies in Hickson compact groups. These data were used to determine galaxy
properties (ages, metallicities and -element enhancements) and allowed
a comparison with the parameters determined for a sample of galaxies in lower
density environments, studied by Gonz\'alez (1993). The stellar population
parameters were derived by comparison to single stellar population models of
Thomas et al. (2003) and to a new set of SSP models for the indices Mg,
Fe5270 and Fe5335 based on synthetic spetra. These models, based on an update
version of the fitting functions presented in Barbuy et al. (2003), are fully
described here. Our main results are: (1) the two samples have similar mean
values for the metallicities and [/Fe] ratios, (2) the majority of the
galaxies in compact groups seem to be old (median age of 14 Gyr for eight
galaxies for which ages could be derived), in agreement with recent work by
Proctor et al. (2004). These findings support two possible scenarios: compact
groups are either young systems whose members have recently assembled and had
not enough time to experience any merging yet or, instead, they are old systems
that have avoided merging since their time of formation.Comment: Accepted for publication in A

The impact of financial restatements on financial markets: A systematic review of the literature
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to discuss the most relevant issues related to the impact of financial restatements in the dynamics of financial markets and identify several research gaps to be investigated in future research. Design/methodology/approach: The methodology is based on a systematic review of the literature described by Tranfield et al. (2003). The final sample includes 47 academic papers published from 1996 to 2019. Findings: Papers in this domain discuss three main topics: how the market prices the announcement of a financial restatement; how financial restatements affect the announcing firmâs cost of capital and how financial restatements affect firmsâ reputation. There are several issues to explore in future research, including whether financial restatements affect the dynamics of financial markets in Europe, whether the market fully and promptly assimilates the information content of a restatement, the role of financial analystsâ information disclosures in this process or how regulators may improve the way they provide investors with timely information about firmsâ restating problems. Research limitations/implications: There is always some degree of subjectivity in the definition of the keywords, search strings and selection criteria in a systematic review. These are all important aspects, as they delimitate the scope of the study and define the sample of papers to be reviewed. Practical implications: The answers to the research questions identified in this paper may provide regulators with information to improve financial accounting and reporting standards and strengthen investorsâ confidence in accounting information and the dynamics of financial markets. Originality/value: This paper systematically reviews the relevant literature exploring the connection between financial restatements and the dynamics of financial markets. It contributes to the academic community by identifying several research questions that may impact the theory and practice related to accounting quality and capital markets.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
