Low cost freshwater fish pickle using cheap citrus fruit (C. reticulata)
The juice extracted from a locally abundant cheap variety of citrus fruit namely, Citrus reticulata was utilized for pickling. The paper highlights the trials made to select the optimum concentrations of acetic acid and sodium chloride to be used along with the juice of C. reticulata so as to obtain the best, product. The product can be stored well at room temperature for six months
On the ice-storage characteristics of Catla catla and Labeo fimbriatus
The ice-storage characteristics of Catla catla and Labeo fimbriatus are reported. Muscle pH, moisture, total volatile nitrogen, alpha amino nitrogen and peroxide value and also the changes in total bacterial count are studied. C. catla and L. fimbriatus both could be stored in ice for 18 days

Defects induced ferromagnetism in Mn doped ZnO
Single phase Mn doped (2 at %) ZnO samples have been synthesized by
solid-state reaction technique. Before the final sintering at 500 C, the mixed
powders have been milled for different milling periods (6, 24, 48 and 96
hours). The grain sizes of the samples are very close to each other (~ 32 \pm 4
nm). However, the defective state of the samples is different from each other
as manifested from the variation of magnetic properties and electrical
resistivity with milling time. All the samples have been found to be
ferromagnetic with clear hysteresis loops at room temperature. The maximum
value for saturation magnetization (0.11 {\mu}_B / Mn atom) was achieved for 96
hours milled sample. Electrical resistivity has been found to increase with
increasing milling time. The most resistive sample bears the largest saturation
magnetization. Variation of average positron lifetime with milling time bears a
close similarity with that of the saturation magnetization. This indicates the
key role played by open volume vacancy defects, presumably zinc vacancies near
grain surfaces, in inducing ferromagnetic order in Mn doped ZnO. To attain
optimum defect configuration favorable for ferromagnetism in this kind of
samples proper choice of milling period and annealing conditions is required.Comment: Accepted in Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Material
The STAR Photon Multiplicity Detector
Details concerning the design, fabrication and performance of STAR Photon
Multiplicity Detector (PMD) are presented. The PMD will cover the forward
region, within the pseudorapidity range 2.3--3.5, behind the forward time
projection chamber. It will measure the spatial distribution of photons in
order to study collective flow, fluctuation and chiral symmetry restoration.Comment: 15 pages, including 11 figures; to appear in a special NIM volume

A Honeycomb Proportional Counter for Photon Multiplicity Measurement in the ALICE Experiment
A honeycomb detector consisting of a matrix of 96 closely packed hexagonal
cells, each working as a proportional counter with a wire readout, was
fabricated and tested at the CERN PS. The cell depth and the radial dimensions
of the cell were small, in the range of 5-10 mm. The appropriate cell design
was arrived at using GARFIELD simulations. Two geometries are described
illustrating the effect of field shaping. The charged particle detection
efficiency and the preshower characteristics have been studied using pion and
electron beams. Average charged particle detection efficiency was found to be
98%, which is almost uniform within the cell volume and also within the array.
The preshower data show that the transverse size of the shower is in close
agreement with the results of simulations for a range of energies and converter
thicknesses.Comment: To be published in NIM
Multilayered feed forward Artificial Neural Network model to predict the average summer-monsoon rainfall in India
In the present research, possibility of predicting average summer-monsoon
rainfall over India has been analyzed through Artificial Neural Network models.
In formulating the Artificial Neural Network based predictive model, three
layered networks have been constructed with sigmoid non-linearity. The models
under study are different in the number of hidden neurons. After a thorough
training and test procedure, neural net with three nodes in the hidden layer is

Effects of Large CP violating phases on g_{\m}-2 in MSSM
Effects of CP violation on the supersymmetric electro-weak correction to the
anomalous magnetic moment of the muon are investigated with the most general
allowed set of CP violating phases in MSSM. The analysis includes contributions
from the chargino and the neutralino exchanges to the muon anomaly. The
supersymmetric contributions depend only on specific combinations of CP phases.
The independent set of such phases is classified. We analyse the effects of the
phases under the EDM constraints and show that large CP violating phases can
drastically affect the magnitude of the supersymmetric electro-weak
contribution to and may even affect its overall sign.Comment: 26 pages Latex file including 4 figure
Seesaw tau lepton mass and calculable neutrino masses in a 3-3-1 model
In a version of the 3-3-1 model proposed by Duong and Ma the introduction of
the scalar sextet for giving mass to the charged leptons is avoided by adding a
singlet charged lepton. We show that in this case the lepton gains mass
through a seesaw--like mechanism. Besides we show how to generate neutrino
masses at the tree and at the 1-loop level with the respective
Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata leptonic mixing matrices.Comment: revtex, 5 pages and one eps figure. Published versio
