Effects of state dependent correlations on nucleon density and momentum distributions
The proton momentum and density distributions of closed shell nuclei are
calculated within a model treating short--range correlations up to first order
in the cluster expansion. The validity of the model is verified by comparing
the results obtained with purely scalar correlations with those produced by
finite nuclei Fermi Hypernetted Chain calculations. State dependent
correlations are used to calculate momentum and density distributions of 12C,
16O, 40Ca, and 48Ca, and the effects of their tensor components are studied.Comment: 16 pages, latex, 8 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.
Short-range correlations in low-lying nuclear excited states
The electromagnetic transitions to various low-lying excited states of 16O,
48Ca and 208Pb are calculated within a model which considers the short-range
correlations. In general the effects of the correlations are small and do not

Evaluation of impurity densities from charge exchange recombination spectroscopy measurements at ASDEX Upgrade
At ASDEX upgrade (AUG) a new framework for the evaluation of impurity densities based on measurements from charge exchange recombination spectroscopy (CXRS) diagnostics has been developed. The charge exchange impurity concentration analysis code, or CHICA, can perform these calculations for all of the beam-based CXRS diagnostics at AUG and is equipped with the atomic data for all of the regularly measured charge exchange spectral lines (He, Li, B, C, N, O, and Ne). CHICA includes four different methods for the evaluation of the neutral density populations, which feature different implementations and contain varying levels of sophistication. These methods have been thoroughly benchmarked against one another, enabling the important processes for the evaluation of neutral densities to be identified as well as the neutral populations that are most critical to the accurate interpretation of the measured CXRS intensities. For the AUG neutral beams, charge exchange with the ground state of the first energy component is typically the dominant contribution to the measured CXRS intensities, but emission from reactions with the n = 2 beam halo population can contribute up to 35% to the total signal and must be included in the analysis. Neglect of this population leads to incorrect magnitudes and incorrect profile shapes of the calculated impurity density profiles. The edge lines of sight (LOS) of the core CXRS diagnostics at AUG intersect the edge pedestal inside of the neutral beam volume. Therefore, the impurity density is not constant along the LOS, complicating the interpretation of the measured intensities. Within CHICA a forward model for the edge impurity densities has been implemented, enabling the reconstruction of accurate edge profiles
"De frente pro crime": cultura organizacional e socialização dos peritos ingressantes no departamento de criminalística do instituto-geral de perícias do Rio Grande do Sul
A pesquisa objetivou verificar como determinados aspectos da cultura organizacional do Departamento de Criminalística são transmitidos aos neófitos, por meio do curso de formação de peritos; quem são esses ingressantes; qual a significação que o curso e as futuras atividades a serem desenvolvidas possuem para eles. Os dados foram obtidos mediante o fazer etnográfico, tendo por técnicas a observação participante, realizada com a presença da pesquisadora no módulo Local de Crime contra a Vida, realizado de maio a junho de 2009, além de consulta a materiais documentais e aplicação de um questionário de perguntas abertas a 29 alunos. A análise dos dados seguiu os preceitos da etnografia, que preconiza o diálogo entre o êmico, o ético e os teóricos referenciados. Os resultados apontam ênfase em determinados aspectos presentes na atuação dos peritos, a saber: responsabilidade, dedicação, impossibilidade de cometer erros, que, se por um lado, traz uma contribuição positiva, ao reforçar a importância do papel a ser desempenhado, por outro, gera angústia e medo nos ingressantes, em razão da inexperiência deles, levando a uma tensão que pode ser prejudicial ao exercício profissional. Contudo, o estigma inerente à atuação dos peritos ficou entre os não ditos e só será verificado pelos ingressantes quando de suas atuações no dia a dia
Determination of Matter Surface Distribution of Neutron-rich Nuclei
We demonstrate that the matter density distribution in the surface region is
determined well by the use of the relatively low-intensity beams that become
available at the upcoming radioactive beam facilities. Following the method
used in the analyses of electron scattering, we examine how well the density
distribution is determined in a model-independent way by generating pseudo data
and by carefully applying statistical and systematic error analyses. We also
study how the determination becomes deteriorated in the central region of the
density, as the quality of data decreases. Determination of the density
distributions of neutron-rich nuclei is performed by fixing parameters in the
basis functions to the neighboring stable nuclei. The procedure allows that the
knowledge of the density distributions of stable nuclei assists to strengthen
the determination of their unstable isotopes.Comment: 41 pages, latex, 27 figure
Intraligand charge transfer enables visible-light-mediated nickel-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions
We demonstrate that several visible-light mediated carbon–heteroatom cross-couplings can be carried out using a photoactive NiII precatalyst that forms in situ from a nickel salt and a bipyridine ligand decorated with two carbazole groups (Ni(Czbpy)Cl2). The activation of this precatalyst towards cross-couplings follows a hitherto undisclosed mechanism that is different from previously reported light-responsive nickel complexes that were reported to undergo metal-to-ligand charge transfer. Theoretic and spectroscopic investigations revealed that irradiation of Ni(Czbpy)Cl2 with visible-light causes an initial intraligand charge transfer event that triggers productive catalysis. Ligand polymerization affords a porous, recyclable organic polymer for heterogeneous nickel catalysis of cross-couplings. The heterogeneous catalyst shows stable performance in a packed-bed flow reactor during a week of continuous operation
Recent progress towards a physics-based understanding of the H-mode transition
Results from recent experiment and numerical simulation point towards a picture of the L-H transition in which edge shear flows interacting with edge turbulence create the conditions needed to produce a non-zero turbulent Reynolds stress at and just inside the LCFS during L-mode discharges. This stress acts to reinforce the shear flow at this location and the flow drive gets stronger as heating is increased. The L-H transition ensues when the rate of work done by this stress is strong enough to drive the shear flow to large values, which then grows at the expense of the turbulence intensity. The drop in turbulence intensity momentarily reduces the heat flux across the magnetic flux surface, which then allows the edge plasma pressure gradient to build. A sufficiently strong ion pressure gradient then locks in the H-mode state. These results are in general agreement with previously published reduced 0D and 1D predator prey models. An extended predator-prey model including separate ion and electron heat channels yields a non-monotonic power threshold dependence on plasma density provided that the fraction of heat deposited on the ions increases with plasma density. Possible mechanisms to explain other macroscopic transition threshold criteria are identified. A number of open questions and unexplained observations are identified, and must be addressed and resolved in order to build a physics-based model that can yield predictions of the macroscopic conditions needed for accessing H-mode
