The intrinsic Baldwin effect in broad Balmer lines of six long-term monitored AGNs
We investigate the intrinsic Baldwin effect (Beff) of the broad H and
H emission lines for six Type 1 active galactic nuclei (AGNs) with
different broad line characteristics: two Seyfert 1 (NGC 4151 and NGC 5548),
two AGNs with double-peaked broad line profiles (3C 390.3 and Arp 102B), one
narrow line Seyfert 1 (Ark 564), and one high-luminosity quasar with highly red
asymmetric broad line profiles (E1821+643). We found that a significant
intrinsic Beff was present in all Type 1 AGNs in our sample. Moreover, we do
not see strong difference in intrinsic Beff slopes in different types of AGNs
which probably have different physical properties, such as inclination, broad
line region geometry, or accretion rate. Additionally, we found that the
intrinsic Beff was not connected with the global one, which, instead, could not
be detected in the broad H or H emission lines. In the case of
NGC 4151, the detected variation of the Beff slope could be due to the change
in the site of line formation in the BLR. Finally, the intrinsic Beff might be
caused by the additional optical continuum component that is not part of the
ionization continuum.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures, Accepted for publication in A&
Pengaruh Kemandirian Keuangan Daerah terhadap Pertumbuhan Ekonomi Kabupaten/kota Provinsi Banten
Fiscal decentralization aims to improve regional finance independency and reduce the fiscal dependency of central government. However, in practice, there are many areas that still rely on the assistance central finance for their regional development. This research aims to discuss the development of regional finance independency and analyze the influence of regional finance independency on economic growth in Banten Province. This research uses descriptive method and panel data on 6 (six) regencies and cities in Banten Province at 2001-2011. The results showed the significantly positive effect of regional finance independency on economic growth and significantly negative effect of balance fund's ratio on economic growth
Understanding mass transfer directions via data-driven models with application to mobile phone data
The aim of this paper is to solve an inverse problem which regards a mass moving in a bounded domain. We assume that the mass moves following an unknown velocity field and that the evolution of the mass density can be described by a partial differential equation, which is also unknown. The input data of the problems are given by some snapshots of the mass distribution at certain times, while the sought output is the velocity field that drives the mass along its displacement. To this aim, we put in place an algorithm based on the combination of two methods: first, we use the dynamic mode decomposition to create a mathematical model describing the mass transfer; second, we use the notion of Wasserstein distance (also known as earth mover's distance) to reconstruct the underlying velocity field that is responsible for the displacement. Finally, we consider a real-life application: the algorithm is employed to study the travel flows of people in large populated areas using, as input data, density profiles (i.e., the spatial distribution) of people in given areas at different time instants. These kinds of data are provided by the Italian telecommunication company TIM and are derived by mobile phone usage
Equation of state for -stable hot nuclear matter
We provide an equation of state for hot nuclear matter in -equilibrium
by applying a momentum-dependent effective interaction. We focus on the study
of the equation of state of high-density and high-temperature nuclear matter,
containing leptons (electrons and muons) under the chemical equilibrium
condition in which neutrinos have left the system. The conditions of charge
neutrality and equilibrium under -decay process lead first to the
evaluation of proton and lepton fractions and afterwards of internal energy,
free energy, pressure and in total to the equation of state of hot nuclear
matter. Thermal effects on the properties and equation of state of nuclear
matter are assesed and analyzed in the framework of the proposed effective
interaction model. Special attention is dedicated to the study of the
contribution of the components of -stable nuclear matter to the entropy
per particle, a quantity of great interest for the study of structure and
collapse of supernova.Comment: 28 pages, 18 figure
Peculiar behavior of the electrical resistivity of MnSi at the ferromagnetic phase transition
The electrical resistivity of a single crystal of MnSi was measured across
its ferromagnetic phase transition line at ambient and high pressures. Sharp
peaks of the temperature coefficient of resistivity characterize the transition
line. Analysis of these data shows that at pressures to ~0.35 GPa these peaks
have fine structure, revealing a shoulder at ~ 0.5 K above the peak. It is
symptomatic that this structure disappears at pressures higher than ~0.35 GPa,
which was identified earlier as a tricritical poin
Rise of the machines? Intraday high-frequency trading patterns of cryptocurrencies
This research analyses high-frequency data of the cryptocurrency market in
regards to intraday trading patterns related to algorithmic trading and its
impact on the European cryptocurrency market. We study trading quantitatives
such as returns, traded volumes, volatility periodicity, and provide summary
statistics of return correlations to CRIX (CRyptocurrency IndeX), as well as
respective overall high-frequency based market statistics with respect to
temporal aspects. Our results provide mandatory insight into a market, where
the grand scale employment of automated trading algorithms and the extremely
rapid execution of trades might seem to be a standard based on media reports.
Our findings on intraday momentum of trading patterns lead to a new
quantitative view on approaching the predictability of economic value in this
new digital market
