Conflicts of Interest: The authors declare no conflict of interest.The wide tissue distribution of the adrenergic β3 receptor makes it a potential target for the treatment of multiple pathologies such as diabetes, obesity, depression, overactive bladder (OAB), and cancer. Currently, there is only one drug on the market, mirabegron, approved for the treatment of OAB. In the present study, we have carried out an extensive structure-activity relationship analysis of a series of 41 aryloxypropanolamine compounds based on three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (3D-QSAR) techniques. This is the first combined comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) and comparative molecular similarity index analysis (CoMSIA) study in a series of selective aryloxypropanolamines displaying anti-diabetes and anti-obesity pharmacological profiles. The best CoMFA and CoMSIA models presented values of r2 ncv = 0.993 and 0.984 and values of r2 test = 0.865 and 0.918, respectively.     The personal branding turns out to be fundamental in the contemporary relations, where social networks, high competitiveness and global world challenges drive to consider people to improve themselves as companies, achieving major visibility between the public and reaffirming positive values that help to position the individual as a brand. In this sense, it is pertinent to analyze how there might create a personal brand focused on the faculty, who assembles the important criteria to emphasize the image of the professional in the academic local area but also on an educational global market. In order to understand the perception of the subject of study, and by means of a quantitative investigation, a test was applied to teachers specialized in different areas and students of administrative careers at Sergio Arboleda University, which announced the importance of the implementation of this form of “personal promotion”, resulting to be beneficial in major measure for the teacher due to the fact that it marks a point of reference and differentiation between his or her colleagues, but also achieving benefits for the student that receives information of professionals and their knowledge and specific experience, allowing a collaborative learning, with increased interaction and participation.O conceito de branding pessoal ou de marca pessoal é fundamental nas relações contemporâneas, onde as redes sociais, a alta competitividade e os desafios de um mundo globalizado impulsionam as pessoas a se promoverem como empresas, alcançando maior visibilidade entre o público e reafirmando valores positivos que ajudam a posicionar o indivíduo como uma marca.     Towards a New Learning Experience through a Mobile Application with Augmented Reality in Engineering Education

    With the rise of information technology and digitization, education has been faced with the need to adopt new learning models using technology to create innovative educational methodologies. In addition, due to pandemic restrictions and in order to help contain the spread of the virus (COVID-19), all educational institutions have been forced to switch immediately to online education. The application of augmented reality (AR) in education provides important benefits, such as increased engagement and interactivity, and can help to minimize the negative effects of the disruption of face-to-face education. Therefore, this paper focuses on describing the effect of an augmented reality mobile application (NetAR) that was developed for engineering students as a complement to traditional education. To achieve this objective, an experimental group and a control group were established to work with the application for three weeks for three hours a day. Moreover, there are a number of usability issues with AR that may impact learning effectiveness and motivation. Therefore, the usability of the application was evaluated with the IBM Computer System Usability Questionnaire (CSUQ) tool. The usability results show that users are satisfied with NetAR, and the statistical data from the control group indicate that the application positively affects learning.This work was supported by the EduTech project (609785-EPP-1-2019-1-ES-EPPKA2-CBHEJP) co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union

    Transmission Cycle of Tick-Borne Infections and Co-Infections, Animal Models and Diseases

    Tick-borne pathogens such as species of Borrelia, Babesia, Anaplasma, Rickettsia, and Ehrlichia are widespread in the United States and Europe among wildlife, in passerines as well as in domestic and farm animals. Transmission of these pathogens occurs by infected ticks during their blood meal, carnivorism, and through animal bites in wildlife, whereas humans can become infected either by an infected tick bite, through blood transfusion and in some cases, congenitally. The reservoir hosts play an important role in maintaining pathogens in nature and facilitate transmission of individual pathogens or of multiple pathogens simultaneously to humans through ticks. Tick-borne co-infections were first reported in the 1980s in white-footed mice, the most prominent reservoir host for causative organisms in the United States, and they are becoming a major concern for public health now. Various animal infection models have been used extensively to better understand pathogenesis of tick-borne pathogens and to reveal the interaction among pathogens co-existing in the same host. In this review, we focus on the prevalence of these pathogens in different reservoir hosts, animal models used to investigate their pathogenesis and host responses they trigger to understand diseases in humans. We also documented the prevalence of these pathogens as correlating with the infected ticks’ surveillance studies. The association of tick-borne co-infections with other topics such as pathogens virulence factors, host immune responses as they relate to diseases severity, identification of vaccine candidates, and disease economic impact are also briefly addressed here

    Control-oriented models of step-up and step-down photovoltaic power systems

    This paper presents the modeling and control of photovoltaic systems considering disturbances in solar irradiance and load. Three cases are addressed: step-up/step-down systems using a non-inverting Buck-Boost converter interface, step-down systems using a Buck converter interface, and step-up systems using a Boost converter. Control-oriented models are analytically derived to design controllers that regulate the voltage of the photovoltaic panel in agreement with the reference provided by a maximum power point tracking algorithm, aimed at maximizing power production. The proposed models are validated by means of frequency response analyses, and the designed controllers are validated by means of detailed simulations performed in standard power electronics software. Finally, experimental results illustrate the applicability of the proposed approach to real casesEste artículo presenta el modelado y control de sistemas fotovoltaicos considerando perturbaciones en la irradiación solar y en la carga. Se consideran tres casos: sistemas con elevación/reducción usando un convertidor Buck/Boost no inversor, sistemas exclusivamente reductores usando un convertidor Buck, y sistemas exclusivamente elevadores usando un convertidor del Boost. Los sistemas son modelados para diseñar controladores de voltaje que regulen el panel fotovoltaico de acuerdo con la referencia dada por un algoritmo para seguimiento del punto de máxima potencia, el cual busca maximizar la potencia producida. Los modelos propuestos son validados a partir del análisis de su respuesta en frecuencia, y el diseño de los controladores se validada a través de simulaciones detalladas realizadas con un simulador estándar de electrónica de potencia.     Bostezo como mecanismo protector y predictor de síncope: estudio observacional en una cohorte de pacientes

    Resumen: Introducción: el bostezo se presenta con frecuencia en los pacientes sometidos a prueba de mesa basculante. Estudios previos han demostrado que el bostezo estimula el sistema nervioso simpático con sus consecuentes cambios hemodinámicos, principalmente en la frecuencia cardíaca y la presión arterial. Objetivo: describir los efectos hemodinámicos y sobre el sistema nervioso autónomo del bostezo, así como establecer el bostezo como mecanismo protector de síncope o predictor de respuesta hemodinámica positiva. Métodos: estudio observacional de fuente secundaria, realizado a partir de una base de datos de pacientes que fueron sometidos a prueba de mesa basculante entre agosto de 2010 hasta diciembre de 2015 y presentaron al menos un bostezo durante la prueba. Se realizaron análisis estadísticos y pruebas pareadas para determinar correlaciones. Resultados: se incluyeron 156 pacientes, la mayoría mujeres, edad promedio 40 años.43 pacientes presentaron síncope, 113 (72,4%) bostezo sin síncope, y de éstos, 50 (44,2%) tuvieron bostezo y prueba de mesa basculante con respuesta positiva. Se observó un aumento en la mayoría de variables hemodinámicas, sin embargo, hubo una disminución significativa de la frecuencia cardíaca. En 67 pacientes se observó bostezo como protector de síncope mientras que en 61 pacientes como predictor de respuesta hemodinámica positiva. Conclusión: el bostezo se asoció con activación del sistema nervioso simpático, con efectos hemodinámicos y sobre el sistema nervioso autónomo. Puede plantearse como un signo predictor de respuesta hemodinámica positiva de tipo mixto o vasodepresora y en otros casos como un mecanismo protector frente a la aparición de síncope. Abstract: Introduction: Yawning is often present in patients subjected to a tilt table test. Previous studies have demonstrated that yawning stimulates the sympathetic nervous system, with its subsequent haemodynamic changes, mainly heart rate and blood pressure. Objective: To describe the haemodynamic effects of yawning on the autonomic nervous system, as well as to establish yawning as a protective mechanism of syncope, or a predictor of a positive haemodynamic response. Methods: A secondary source observational study conducted using a database of patients that were subjected to the tilt table test between August 2010 and December 2015, and yawned at least once during the test. Statistical analyses and paired tests were performed to determine correlations. Results: A total of 156 patients were included, the majority women, and a mean age of 40 years. Syncope was presented in 43 patients. The remaining 113 (72.4%) yawned with no syncope, and of these, 50 (44.2%) had yawned and had a positive response to the tilt-table test. Although there was an increase in the majority of haemodynamic variables, a significant decrease was observed in the heart rate. Yawning was observed as a protector of syncope in 67 patients, whilst it was a predictor of a positive haemodynamic response in 61 patients. Conclusion: Yawning is associated with activation of the sympathetic nervous system, with haemodynamic effects and on the autonomic nervous system. It could be established as a predictive sign of a mixed type or vasodepressor positive haemodynamic response, and in other cases as a protective mechanism against the appearance of a syncope.     Estudio comparativo de alteraciones electrocardiográficas, frecuencia cardiaca y presión arterial entre seropositivos y seronegativos para Trypanosoma cruzi en el valle de Vítor, Arequipa-Perú

    Introduction: the cardiac syndrome is the main cause of morbidty and mortality in Chagas disease, and its pathogenesis appears to be related to abnormalities of the autonomous nervous system which affect cardiovascular physiology. Objectives: to compare the values of heart rate ,blood pressure and electrocardiographic (EKG) abnormalities of the infected population with those of the control population. Materials and Methods: this is an analytic, observational, cross sectional study made in the valley of Vítor, Arequipa, from 2004 to 2005. Volunteers over 15 yearse of age ere studied: 25 T. cruzi seropositive an 50 T. cruzi seronegative persons. Examinations including heart rate, blood pressure and standard 12-lead EDGs were performed, comparing the results between the groups. Results: heart rate and blood pressure values were similar between seropositive subjects and their controls; the same was true of sinus bradycardia, hypotension and hypertension. EKG abnormalities were found in 40% of seropositives and 26% of the controls; the difference didnt reach statistical significance. The EKG abnormalities detected most often in the 2 groups were nonspecific repolarization changes, sinus bradycardia, left anterior bundle block, and supraventricular estrasystoles. Complete right bundle block and partial left anterior bundle block were seen in seropositive persons under 40. Conclusions: the prevalence of cardiovascular abnormalities was similar between subjects infected with T. cruzi and their controls. The EKG abnormalities seen most frequently are different from those typically described in Chagas disease patients.Introducción: La forma clínica cardiaca es la principal causa de morbimortalidad de la enfermedad de Chagas, y su patogenia estaría relacionada con alteraciones del sistema nervioso autónomo que afectarían la fisiología cardiovascular. Objetivos: Comparar los valores de frecuencia cardiaca, presión arterial y las alteraciones electrocardiográficas de pobladores infectados con T. cruzi y sujetos control. Material y métodos: estudio analítico, observacional, transversal; realizado en el valle de Vítor de Arequipa en el período 2004-2005. Se estudiaron 75 voluntarios mayores de 15 años de edad, distribuidos en 25 seropositivos y 50 seronegativos para T. cruzi, pareados por edad y sexo. Se midió frecuencia cardiaca, presión arterial y se realizó electrocardiografía estándar, comparándose los resultados en ambos grupos. Resultados: Los valores de frecuencia cardiaca y presión arterial fueron similares entre los sujetos infectados con T. cruzi y los controles, al igual que la presencia de bradicardia sinusal, hipotensión e hipertensión arterial. En 40% de los sujetos seropositivos hubo alteraciones electrocardiográficas, y en sujetos control en 26% diferencia estadísticamente no significativa. Las alteraciones más frecuentes en ambos grupos fueron los cambios inespecíficos de repolarización, bradicardia sinusal, hemibloqueo anerior izquierdo, extrasistolias supraventriculares. Se presentó bloqueo completo de rama derecha y hemibloqueo anterior izquierdo en personas infectadas con T. cruzi menores de 40 años. Conclusiones: La prevalencia de alteraciones cardiovasculares fue similar en población infectada con T. cruzi y sujetos control. Las alteraciones al EKG más frecuentes no son las típicamente descritas en enfermedad de Chagas
