The rice grain (Oryza sativa L.) which is managed by Fundación para la
Investigación Agrícola Danac (DANAC), is a product with an intensive
technological base for the use of knowledge, supported by practical projects
and new technologies. The objectives of the paper are to identify the logical
system associated with projects which use molecular biology in the plant
breeding of rice and the description of the technological tools of negotiation
to improve productivity in the process of conventional plant breeding. The
methodological analysis is based in a) the model of the double helix (
Duarte, 2005 ), focusing on the connection between the non-statal public
sector ( Cunill, 1995 ) and the private sector, and b) the contributions derived
from the triple helix model ( Etzkowitz and Leydesdorff, 1997 ) for the
constitution of productive “clusters”. The results are: i) An analysis of the
multidisciplinary undertaking for the use of molecular biology in projects
which are carried out with the support of DANAC and other concomitant
financial sources: the molecular evaluation of the contents of amylase,
studies of the family of the Pyricularia grisea fungus, detection of QTL ́s
for the performance and partial resistance to P. grisea, among others; ii)
Valorisation of the manner of the connection in relation to the concept of
networks: the implementation of the workshop for the selection of the rice
germplasm ( Portuguesa and Guárico states) and the continuance of the
agreement of the reciprocal exchange of germplasm with an international
company ( Colombia ); and iii) contributions to the management of
organizations, with an emphasis on the technological management of
aspects of intellectual property, negotiation, innovation and transfer. The
discussion refers to the importance of the conformation of “cluster” and the
creation of value in the agricultural production chain of rice, with the
appearance of shared risk companies on the basis of the participative
