Global DNA methylation and cognitive and behavioral outcomes at 4 years of age: A crossâsectional study
Background
Accumulating evidence suggests that breastfeeding exclusivity and duration are positively associated with child cognition. This study investigated whether DNA methylation, an epigenetic mechanism modified by nutrient intake, may contribute to the link between breastfeeding and child cognition. The aim was to quantify the relationship between global DNA methylation and cognition and behavior at 4 years of age.
Methods
Child behavior and cognition were measured at age 4 years using the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, third version (WPPSIâIII), and Child Behavior Checklist (CBC). Global DNA methylation (%5âmethylcytosines (%5mC)) was measured in buccal cells at age 4 years, using an enzymeâlinked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) commercial kit. Linear regression models were used to quantify the statistical relationships.
Results
Data were collected from 73 children recruited from the Women and Their Children's Health (WATCH) study. No statistically significant associations were found between global DNA methylation levels and child cognition or behavior (p > .05), though the estimates of effect were consistently negative. Global DNA methylation levels in males were significantly higher than in females (median %5mC: 1.82 vs. 1.03, males and females, respectively, (p < .05)).
Conclusion
No association was found between global DNA methylation and child cognition and behavior; however given the small sample, this study should be pooled with other cohorts in future metaâanalyses
Host transcriptional responses in nasal swabs identify potential SARS-CoV-2 infection in PCR negative patients
We analyzed RNA sequencing data from nasal swabs used for SARS-CoV-2 testing. 13% of 317 PCR-negative samples contained over 100 reads aligned to multiple regions of the SARS-CoV-2 genome. Differential gene expression analysis compares the host gene expression in potential false-negative (FN: PCR negative, sequencing positive) samples to subjects with multiple SARS-CoV-2 viral loads. The host transcriptional response in FN samples was distinct from true negative samples (PCR & sequencing negative) and similar to low viral load samples. Gene Ontology analysis shows viral load-dependent changes in gene expression are functionally distinct; 23 common pathways include responses to viral infections and associated immune responses. GO analysis reveals FN samples had a high overlap with high viral load samples. Deconvolution of RNA-seq data shows similar cell content across viral loads. Hence, transcriptome analysis of nasal swabs provides an additional level of identifying SARS-CoV-2 infection
The Layer 0 Inner Silicon Detector of the D0 Experiment
This paper describes the design, fabrication, installation and performance of
the new inner layer called Layer 0 (L0) that was inserted in the existing Run
IIa Silicon Micro-Strip Tracker (SMT) of the D0 experiment at the Fermilab
Tevatron collider. L0 provides tracking information from two layers of sensors,
which are mounted with center lines at a radial distance of 16.1 mm and 17.6 mm
respectively from the beam axis. The sensors and readout electronics are
mounted on a specially designed and fabricated carbon fiber structure that
includes cooling for sensor and readout electronics. The structure has a thin
polyimide circuit bonded to it so that the circuit couples electrically to the
carbon fiber allowing the support structure to be used both for detector
grounding and a low impedance connection between the remotely mounted hybrids
and the sensors.Comment: 28 pages, 9 figure
Model Independent Information On Solar Neutrino Oscillations
We present the results of a Bayesian analysis of solar neutrino data in terms
of nu_e->nu_{mu,tau} oscillations, independent from the Standard Solar Model
predictions for the solar neutrino fluxes. We show that such a model
independent analysis allows to constraint the values of the neutrino mixing
parameters in limited regions around the usual SMA, LMA, LOW and VO regions.
Furthermore, there is a strong indication in favor of large neutrino mixing and
large values of Delta m^2 (LMA region). We calculate also the allowed ranges of
the neutrino fluxes and we show that they are in good agreement with the
Standard Solar Model prediction. In particular, the ratio of the 8B flux with
its Standard Solar Model prediction is constrained in the interval [0.45,1.42]
with 99.73% probability. Finally, we show that the hypothesis of no neutrino
oscillations is strongly disfavored in a model independent way with respect to
the hypothesis of neutrino oscillations.Comment: 40 pages, 20 figures. Added references and improved figure
Evidence of Color Coherence Effects in W+jets Events from ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV
We report the results of a study of color coherence effects in ppbar
collisions based on data collected by the D0 detector during the 1994-1995 run
of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, at a center of mass energy sqrt(s) = 1.8
TeV. Initial-to-final state color interference effects are studied by examining
particle distribution patterns in events with a W boson and at least one jet.
The data are compared to Monte Carlo simulations with different color coherence
implementations and to an analytic modified-leading-logarithm perturbative
calculation based on the local parton-hadron duality hypothesis.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures. Submitted to Physics Letters
Measurement of the p-pbar -> Wgamma + X cross section at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV and WWgamma anomalous coupling limits
The WWgamma triple gauge boson coupling parameters are studied using p-pbar
-> l nu gamma + X (l = e,mu) events at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. The data were
collected with the DO detector from an integrated luminosity of 162 pb^{-1}
delivered by the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The cross section times branching
fraction for p-pbar -> W(gamma) + X -> l nu gamma + X with E_T^{gamma} > 8 GeV
and Delta R_{l gamma} > 0.7 is 14.8 +/- 1.6 (stat) +/- 1.0 (syst) +/- 1.0 (lum)
pb. The one-dimensional 95% confidence level limits on anomalous couplings are
-0.88 < Delta kappa_{gamma} < 0.96 and -0.20 < lambda_{gamma} < 0.20.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Rev. D Rapid Communication
Measurement of the ttbar Production Cross Section in ppbar Collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV using Kinematic Characteristics of Lepton + Jets Events
We present a measurement of the top quark pair ttbar production cross section
in ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV using 230 pb**{-1}
of data collected by the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We
select events with one charged lepton (electron or muon), large missing
transverse energy, and at least four jets, and extract the ttbar content of the
sample based on the kinematic characteristics of the events. For a top quark
mass of 175 GeV, we measure sigma(ttbar) = 6.7 {+1.4-1.3} (stat) {+1.6- 1.1}
(syst) +/-0.4 (lumi) pb, in good agreement with the standard model prediction.Comment: submitted to Phys.Rev.Let
Measurement of the ttbar Production Cross Section in ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV using Lepton + Jets Events with Lifetime b-tagging
We present a measurement of the top quark pair () production cross
section () in collisions at TeV
using 230 pb of data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab
Tevatron Collider. We select events with one charged lepton (electron or muon),
missing transverse energy, and jets in the final state. We employ
lifetime-based b-jet identification techniques to further enhance the
purity of the selected sample. For a top quark mass of 175 GeV, we
measure pb, in
agreement with the standard model expectation.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, 3 tables Submitted to Phys.Rev.Let
Search for W' bosons decaying to an electron and a neutrino with the D0 detector
This Letter describes the search for a new heavy charged gauge boson W'
decaying into an electron and a neutrino. The data were collected with the D0
detector at the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton Collider at a
center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity
of about 1 inverse femtobarn. Lacking any significant excess in the data in
comparison with known processes, an upper limit is set on the production cross
section times branching fraction, and a W' boson with mass below 1.00 TeV can
be excluded at the 95% C.L., assuming standard-model-like couplings to
fermions. This result significantly improves upon previous limits, and is the
most stringent to date.Comment: submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
