The lead slingshots used by ancient slingers can be, especially if inscribed, a very important source for military history. Unfortunately, there is great demand for these objects on the antiquarian market by collectors and this has created, starting from the nineteenth century, the production of a large number of fakes. For this reason, two genuine lead slinghots, dating to the second half of the first century BC, now preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Verona, are of great interest. The inscriptions record the name of the craftsman who manufactured them

In Roman age hemp was used both as a medicinal plant either, alone or mixed with wool, as a textile fiber, but we have only few literary quotations about its cultivation. Therefore very important are two inscriptions, one on a gravestone and one on a lead label, which document the cultivation and probably the hemp processing and trading in roman Cisalpine. The first, in fact, mentions a cannabetum, that is an hemp field, in the southern ager of Padua, while the second, found in Altinum, is the evidence of the transport of a lot of hemp fiber or, more likely considering the small quantity (3,5 roman pounds), of seeds for agriculture or medicine

On an inscribed stele, discovered in 2009 in an ancient building in Cisano, near Bardolino (Verona), there are three cucurbitulae (suckers) carved in relief. As the cucurbitula is a surgical instrument often used by Roman physicians to perform the bloodletting, one of the persons mentioned inscription, although this is not explicitly said, is a physician

I secolo d.C.In this paper I present a new proposal for reading an inscription with bronze letters(litterae caelatae) discovered in the forum of the small Roman town of Compsa (Italy, Regio II).

Three inscriptions from Moesia Inferior – one of them exactly from Tomis, the town where Ovid spent in exile the last years of his life – begin with the words Hic ego qui iaceo. We are dealing with the literal quotation of the dactyls opening the metrical epigraph devised by the poet himself to be engraved on his own grave. This confirms that Ovid’s verses memory was still alive in that peripheral area, even at grass-root level, and it is a clear sign of the vitality of his poetry and of his reception throughout thecenturies.KEYWORDS: Ovid – Tomis – Moesia Inferior – Ovid’s self-epitaph – reception theor

A christian inscription, discovered in Verona, in the church of San Procolo, remembers a child called Victorinianus, who died two years and eleven months. He is called innofitus, i.e. neophytus, word indicating that he had received the baptism. An analysis of the 126 inscriptions in Latin, which remind neophyti, not only shows that the term is in use only between the 4th and 5th century AD, but above all shows that children up to fifteen years are 63% of testimonies. They are most likely seriously sick or dying children, who were baptized in extremis. These inscriptions, therefore carefully analyzed and contextualized, could bring new arguments to the lively debate regarding the problem of baptismus parvulorum, which is very important in the writings of Augustine and of other Church fathers

Racism as a relationship of power and domination permeates all levels of coexistence. Accordingly, educational institutions such as a university of social work also contribute to the actualization of racism. Even more than social work in general, the university is a white space, at least on the teaching side; however, there is now movement in many areas: There is a growing will and knowledge to promote antiracist thinking and self-reflection. This article explores these movements, including an in-depth discussion about a completed project on empowerment and unlearning racism at Bern University of Applied Sciences. It provides surprising insights into the areas of tension and findings of antiracist work in higher education and in the context of social work
