Jacques, fils de Zébédée, apôtre du Christ et évangélisateur de l’Espagne est un saint jouissant d’une renommée sans précédent dans l’Occident médiéval. À l’époque moderne, le saint patron des pèlerins est de plus en plus représenté car les sources bibliques et les légendes espagnoles ont fait de lui le premier apôtre à avoir défendu au prix de sa vie la foi catholique. À la Contre-Réforme, la figuration de son martyre est à son apogée tandis qu’à Compostelle, lieu de son sanctuaire, afflue un nombre toujours plus important de pèlerins. Grâce au pèlerinage, son culte ne cesse de s’étendre du Moyen-âge au XVIIIe siècle. Alors que Jacques le Majeur s’impose comme l’archétype du pacifisme pendant des siècles, des légendes galiciennes le présentent dès le IXe siècle comme un saint guerrier ayant bouté les musulmans hors de la péninsule ibérique. Figure de propagande politique durant la Reconquista, le mythe du Matamore ne tarde pas à se diffuser au Nouveau Monde sous l’influence des conquistadors, puis dans toute l’Europe qui subit les ravages des guerres de religion au XVIe siècle

Deciphering the genome structure and paleohistory of _Theobroma cacao_
We sequenced and assembled the genome of _Theobroma cacao_, an economically important tropical fruit tree crop that is the source of chocolate. The assembly corresponds to 76% of the estimated genome size and contains almost all previously described genes, with 82% of them anchored on the 10 _T. cacao_ chromosomes. Analysis of this sequence information highlighted specific expansion of some gene families during evolution, for example flavonoid-related genes. It also provides a major source of candidate genes for _T. cacao_ disease resistance and quality improvement. Based on the inferred paleohistory of the T. cacao genome, we propose an evolutionary scenario whereby the ten _T. cacao_ chromosomes were shaped from an ancestor through eleven chromosome fusions. The _T. cacao_ genome can be considered as a simple living relic of higher plant evolution

The analysis of the seismicity catalog (1996 to 2019) covering the region from the Jura mountains to Corsica provides a first-order image of the distribution of earthquakes, highlighting large structures such as the Briançonnais and Piedmontais seismic arcs, the eastward deepening of the focal depths through the Western Alps, several large active faults (e.g. Belledonne, Middle Durance, Ligure). Over this period the magnitudes are moderate and the focal mechanisms of the main events display a diversity of seismic behaviors that can be explained by the complexity of the different geological domains with a more or less strong structural inheritage, by variable rheological characteristics at the scale of the crust and by the joint action of different mechanisms of deformation. The distribution of the historical events is in fairly good agreement with the instrumental seismicity, but several earthquakes of are highlighted since the 14th century until the beginning of the 20th

Sequencing of diverse mandarin, pummelo and orange genomes reveals complex history of admixture during citrus domestication
Cultivated citrus are selections from, or hybrids of, wild progenitor species whose identities and contributions to citrus domestication remain controversial. Here we sequence and compare citrus genomes-a high-quality reference haploid clementine genome and mandarin, pummelo, sweet-orange and sour-orange genomes-and show that cultivated types derive from two progenitor species. Although cultivated pummelos represent selections from one progenitor species, Citrus maxima, cultivated mandarins are introgressions of C. maxima into the ancestral mandarin species Citrus reticulata. The most widely cultivated citrus, sweet orange, is the offspring of previously admixed individuals, but sour orange is an F1 hybrid of pure C. maxima and C. reticulata parents, thus implying that wild mandarins were part of the early breeding germplasm. A Chinese wild 'mandarin' diverges substantially from C. reticulata, thus suggesting the possibility of other unrecognized wild citrus species. Understanding citrus phylogeny through genome analysis clarifies taxonomic relationships and facilitates sequence-directed genetic improvement
