"Chancen der Energiewende" lautete der Titel, unter dem das KIT-Zentrum Energie des Karlsruher Instituts für Technologie (KIT) im Juni 2012 seine erste Jahrestagung abhielt. Die Tagung erstreckte sich über sämtliche Topics des KIT-Zentrums Energie. Mit dem vorliegenden Tagungsband erhalten Interessierte die Gelegenheit, sich mit den Beiträgen eingehend zu befassen und sich ein differenziertes Bild von den Herausforderungen und Möglichkeiten der Energiewende zu machen

D(Jri Pembebanan Arah Ge/Ombang Menuju Barat Daya (45'1) Struktur Menyebabkan Keruntuhan Struktur Paling Cepat. Besar Beban Yang Menyebabkan Keruntuhan Struktur Tersebut Adalah 37 Kolllebih Besar Dari Beban Rancangnya. Das KIT-Zentrum Energie richtet jährlich seine Jahrestagung aus, bei der im regelmäßigen Turnus Promovierende ihre Projekte und aktuellen Ergebnisse präsentieren. Bereits in der Vergangenheit waren Jahrestagungen dem wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs gewidmet. Zahlreiche Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden stellten ihre Arbeiten in einem Vortrag oder einem Poster vor. Caracterização da cinza pesada de carvão visando a aplicação em concreto celular

Ahead of the incorporation of residues in concrete composition, there is a decline in the environmental impact of buildings. One of the goals of today’s development is the employment of low-impact energy sources, such as thermoelectric. Thermoelectric industries display a high rate of residues, among which is pointed out coal bottom ash (CBA) (15% total residues), which have density superior to fly ash and accumulates in silos. Considering this scenario, this paper assessed the incorporation feasibility of CBA in the composition of cellular concrete, replacing silica fume. This study comprehended CBA characterization and application. For such, it was performed a scanning electron microscope (SEM) associated with Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis, laser granulometry, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray efflorescence and density. Following the incorporation of the residues in cellular concrete in place of silica fume, it was performed compression strength analysis and SEM anew, evaluating the impact of CBA’s insertion in concrete’s microstructure. The XRD results are complementary to the other analyses. With SEM technique, it was observed the predominance of spherical-shape particles. The compressive strength of CBA concretes was superior to the reference concrete from 0,13 to 0,74MPa.Keywords: cellular concrete, coal bottom ash, characterization.

Comparison of pain, cortisol levels, and psychological distress in women undergoing surgical termination of pregnancy under local anaesthesia versus intravenous sedation

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The weight of evidence suggests that women who freely choose to terminate a pregnancy are unlikely to experience significant mental health risks, however some studies have documented psychological distress in the form of posttraumatic stress disorder and depression in the aftermath of termination. Choice of anaesthetic has been suggested as a determinant of outcome. This study compared the effects of local anaesthesia and intravenous sedation, administered for elective surgical termination, on outcomes of pain, cortisol, and psychological distress.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>155 women were recruited from a private abortion clinic and state hospital (mean age: 25.4 ± 6.1 years) and assessed on various symptom domains, using both clinician-administered interviews and self-report measures just prior to termination, immediately post-procedure, and at 1 month and 3 months post-procedure. Morning salivary cortisol assays were collected prior to anaesthesia and termination.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The group who received local anaesthetic demonstrated higher baseline cortisol levels (mean = 4.7 vs 0.2), more dissociative symptoms immediately post-termination (mean = 14.7 vs 7.3), and higher levels of pain before (mean = 4.9 vs 3.0) and during the procedure (mean = 8.0 vs 4.4). However, in the longer-term (1 and 3 months), there were no significant differences in pain, psychological outcomes (PTSD, depression, self-esteem, state anxiety), or disability between the groups. More than 65% of the variance in PTSD symptoms at 3 months could be explained by baseline PTSD symptom severity and disability, and post-termination dissociative symptoms. Of interest was the finding that pre-procedural cortisol levels were positively correlated with PTSD symptoms at both 1 and 3 months.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>High rates of PTSD characterise women who have undergone surgical abortions (almost one fifth of the sample meet criteria for PTSD), with women who receive local anaesthetic experiencing more severe acute reactions. The choice of anesthetic, however, does not appear to impact on longer-term psychiatric outcomes or functional status.</p

Understanding How University Students Use Perceptions of Consent, Wantedness, and Pleasure in Labeling Rape.

While the lack of consent is the only determining factor in considering whether a situation is rape or not, there is sufficient evidence that participants conflate wantedness with consent and pleasurableness with wantedness. Understanding how people appraise sexual scenarios may form the basis to develop appropriate educational packages. We conducted two large-scale qualitative studies in two UK universities in which participants read vignettes describing sexual encounters that were consensual or not, wanted or unwanted and pleasurable or not pleasurable. Participants provided free-text responses as to whether they perceived the scenarios to be rape or not and why they made these judgments. The second study replicated the results of the first and included a condition where participants imagined themselves as either the subject or initiator of the sexual encounter. The results indicate that a significant portion of our participants held attitudes reflecting rape myths and tended to blame the victim. Participants used distancing language when imagining themselves in the initiator condition. Participants indicated that they felt there were degrees of how much a scenario reflected rape rather than it simply being a dichotomy (rape or not). Such results indicate a lack of understanding of consent and rape and highlight avenues of potential educational materials for schools, universities or jurors
