Preliminary Report on the Second Season of the Italian Archaeological Mission in the Eastern Desert of Egypt

The article presents the results of the first season of fieldwork of the Italian Archaeological Mission in the Eastern Desert of Egypt. In the area of Wadi Gasus, structures of the ‘Graeco-roman station’ have been mapped and documented; fragments of saggars, pointing to the production of Egyptian blue on the site, have been identified, as well as remains of a well (hydreuma) at the bottom of the wadi. A new mining site has also been identified in the area: although working areas and huts do not show signs of repairs or modifications, the site might have been exploited over a long period of time. Analysis of the data resulting from older publications are also presented, in order to gain a deeper knowledge of the evidence than the present conditions of the sites might allow. In the meantime, the possibility that long known sites might be exploited for resources different than previously supposed is also envisaged. Rosanna Pirelli analyses in particular the contents of two groups of Pharaonic inscriptions - one from the Middle Kingdom and one from the 26th dynasty – discovered between the first decades of the 19th century and first half of the 20th century – which are very important to reconstruct the Pharaonic exploitation of this area during the different periods. The consultation of manuscripts and publications of 19th century explorers (Burton and Wilkinson in particular) and the confrontation with the results of the archaeological survey give the author the opportunity to clarify the archaeological and historical context of both the groups of inscriptions and to recover part of the 26th dynasties texts, unpublished and neglected since long time

Clinical evaluation of guidelines and therapeutic approaches in multi drug-resistant urinary tract infections

    Get PDF
Antibiotic resistance represents a real health emergency worldwide, mostly due to the lack of new antibiotics active against multidrug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae. Considering the global epidemiological situation in several infections, including urinary tract infections (UTIs), some antibiotics, such as fluoroquinolones and trimethoprim/sulphamethoxazole, can no longer be used for empiric treatment due to high resistance rates. However, some old antibiotics maintain high microbiological activity against UTI pathogens: according to many recent guidelines, fosfomycin trometamol, nitrofurantoin and pivmecillinam are recommended for the first-line treatment of uncomplicated UTIs. This article provides an overview of the therapeutic management of UTIs, especially uncomplicated and recurrent cystitis, as well as complicated UTIs such as catheter-related UTIs, and UTIs in males, post-menopausal women and diabetic patients, based on the main international guidelines

Yes-Men and Brownnosers in work context: preliminary evaluation of psychometric properties of assessment instruments and exploration of anxiety and depressive symptoms

Within the working environment, a corporate climate is defined that is expressed through a variety of behaviours on the part of the organisation's members. Yes-Men and Brownnosers enter the relational dynamics and can lead to a higher or lower level of perceived organisational well-being. A positive climate is more likely to return more results-oriented, collective as well as individual well-being. Conversely, a negative climate influences not only work performance but also personal well-being, to the extent that it can become a trigger for certain disconforts, or even pathologies, including anxiety disorders or depression. The aim of this research was to preliminarily evaluate the psychometric properties of assessment instruments and explore the possible presence of anxiety and depressive symptoms

Applicazione viva. Antropologie dell'esercizio nella Spätaufklärung

The aim of this dissertation is to offer a survey on the anthropology of German Late Enlightenment, considered as one of the founding turning points of modernity, which has its center in the concept of "exercise" and in the contributes give by five thinkers: M. Mendelssohn, I. Kant, J.G. Herder, F. Schiller, W. von Humboldt. The introduction places the present work with respect to the existing research and clarifies its method on the basis of the description of an overall conceptual field. In the following chapters, the anthropological reflection on the exercise is developed in five key concepts, divided into three parts. In the first part, the psychophysics of exercise is analyzed: the basis for thinking about this activity is the dynamic understanding of the psychophysical constitution of man. The concepts of reference are those of "connection" (Zusammenhang), that is, the empirical and dynamic description of the reciprocal effect of soul and body; and of "exercise of forces" (Übung der Kräfte), which allows us to understand the ability of man to modify himself by exercising his own natural dispositions. The second part examines the pragmatic reflection on the act of the exercise. The key concepts are those of "habit" (Gewohnheit), which allows us to think of the consolidation of skills able to intervene in the empirical regulation of human behaviors, in forming a character; and that of "play" (Spiel), which seeks to resolve the risk of the mechanicality of habitual conduct referring to a practice of the self founded on a free and plastic connection of material and spiritual element. In the third and last part we consider exercise in its most proper political dimension. Anthropology is generally considered able to establish a program of human transformation through the practice of "Bildung". As a matter of fact, the topic of human formation impacts socio-political issues such as education, the encounter between cultures, and the government of society, which in an age of transition, marked by geographical discoveries and economic and political revolutions, invites to reconsider the conditions under which human practice occurs. In light of this approach, exercise appears to be at the basis for a normativity of social action different from the juridical one
