The purpose of this project is to continue the line of work initiated with the Research Project 2016-2018. For this reason, it is proposed to analyze strategies within the innovation process that generate changes in local enterprises (2015-2018). Cases: Route of Artisans and agricultural producers in Uco Valley. It is also diced to study the technological capabilities and the ways of generating innovations of selected cases. Furthermore, it is included the analyze of the articulation between the studied cases and the Facultad de Artes y Diseño (FAD) as part of the scientific-technological system. Is important to mention that this project research aboard the observation and investigation of public policies which have influenced in the promotion of socio-productive entrepreneurships. It is assumed that the absence of innovation processes in local enterprises occurs due to the lack of a systematized design culture. The 'design' is an intangible discipline that provides 'differentiation with added value' to products or services. This conception makes this activity as certain tools which offer a competitive key, especially if there is a low integration of stakeholders in the system of the territory. The methodology will be applied to local entrepreneurship situated in Greater Mendoza and Uco Valley. In this way, it will be considered those areas that were favored by innovation and the contributions of design. This includes items such as footwear, textiles, agriculture, among others. The research will be based on a qualitative model with the use of documentary sources and different instruments to get information like interviews and photography

Impact of Positive Lymph Nodes and Resection Margin Status on the Overall Survival of Patients with Resected Perihilar Cholangiocarcinoma: The ENSCCA Registry

    Get PDF
Background: Lymph node metastasis and positive resection margins have been reported to be major determinants of overall survival (OS) and poor recurrence-free survival (RFS) for patients who underwent resection for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA). However, the prognostic value of positive lymph nodes independently from resection margin status on OS has not been evaluated. Methods: From the European Cholangiocarcinoma (ENSCCA) registry, patients who underwent resection for pCCA between 1994 and 2021 were included in this retrospective cohort study. The primary outcome was OS stratified for resection margin and lymph node status. The secondary outcome was recurrence-free survival. Results: A total of 325 patients from 11 different centers and six European countries were included. Of these, 194 (59.7%) patients had negative resection margins. In 113 (34.8%) patients, positive lymph nodes were found. Lymph node status, histological grade, and ECOG performance status were independent prognostic factors for survival. The median OS for N0R0, N0R1, N+R0, and N+R1 was 38, 30, 18, and 12 months, respectively (p < 0.001). Conclusion: These data indicate that in the presence of positive regional lymph nodes, resection margin status does not determine OS or RFS in patients with pCCA. Achieving negative margins in patients with positive nodes should not come at the expense of more extensive surgery and associated higher mortality. The ENSCCA Registry is completely funded by the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL; Registry grant awards 2016 and 2019 to J.M.B.), Incyte Bioscience International Sàrl (grant award 2020 to J.M.B.) and European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program (grant number 825510, ESCALON: to J.M.B. and A.L.)

Criteria for preclinical models of cholangiocarcinoma:scientific and medical relevance

    Get PDF
Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a rare malignancy that develops at any point along the biliary tree. CCA has a poor prognosis, its clinical management remains challenging, and effective treatments are lacking. Therefore, preclinical research is of pivotal importance and necessary to acquire a deeper understanding of CCA and improve therapeutic outcomes. Preclinical research involves developing and managing complementary experimental models, from in vitro assays using primary cells or cell lines cultured in 2D or 3D to in vivo models with engrafted material, chemically induced CCA or genetically engineered models. All are valuable tools with well-defined advantages and limitations. The choice of a preclinical model is guided by the question(s) to be addressed; ideally, results should be recapitulated in independent approaches. In this Consensus Statement, a task force of 45 experts in CCA molecular and cellular biology and clinicians, including pathologists, from ten countries provides recommendations on the minimal criteria for preclinical models to provide a uniform approach. These recommendations are based on two rounds of questionnaires completed by 35 (first round) and 45 (second round) experts to reach a consensus with 13 statements. An agreement was defined when at least 90% of the participants voting anonymously agreed with a statement. The ultimate goal was to transfer basic laboratory research to the clinics through increased disease understanding and to develop clinical biomarkers and innovative therapies for patients with CCA

Cholangiocarcinoma 2020: the next horizon in mechanisms and management

[EN] Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) includes a cluster of highly heterogeneous biliary malignant tumours that can arise at any point of the biliary tree. Their incidence is increasing globally, currently accounting for ~15% of all primary liver cancers and ~3% of gastrointestinal malignancies. The silent presentation of these tumours combined with their highly aggressive nature and refractoriness to chemotherapy contribute to their alarming mortality, representing ~2% of all cancer-related deaths worldwide yearly. The current diagnosis of CCA by non- invasive approaches is not accurate enough, and histological confirmation is necessary. Furthermore, the high heterogeneity of CCAs at the genomic, epigenetic and molecular levels severely compromises the efficacy of the available therapies. In the past decade, increasing efforts have been made to understand the complexity of these tumours and to develop new diagnostic tools and therapies that might help to improve patient outcomes. In this expert Consensus Statement, which is endorsed by the European Network for the Study of Cholangiocarcinoma, we aim to summarize and critically discuss the latest advances in CCA, mostly focusing on classification, cells of origin, genetic and epigenetic abnormalities, molecular alterations, biomarker discovery and treatments. Furthermore, the horizon of CCA for the next decade from 2020 onwards is highlightedJ.M.B. received EASL Registry Awards 2016 and 2019 (European CCA Registry, ENS-CCA).
