Contains fulltext : 194702.pdf (publisher's version ) (Open Access)In this paper the question is addressed to what extent the collective processes in a multi-agent society can be interpreted as single agent processes. This question is answered by formal analysis and simulation. It is shown for an example process how it can be conceptualised, formalised and simulated in two different manners: from a single agent (or cognitive) and from a multi-agent (or social) perspective. Moreover, it is shown how an ontological mapping can be formally defined between the two formalisations, and how this mapping can be extended to a mapping of dynamic properties. Thus it is shown how collective behaviour can be interpreted in a formal manner as single agent behaviour.23 p

In this paper a cognitive model for visual attention is introduced. The cognitive model is part of the design of a software agent that supports a naval warfare officer in its task to compile a tactical picture of the situation in the field. An executable formal specification of the cognitive model is given and a case study is described in which the model is used to simulate a human subject's attention. The foundation of the model is based on formal specification of representation relations for attentional states, specifying their intended meaning. The model has been automatically verified against these relations. © 2006 IEEE

An Ambient Agent Model for Monitoring and Analysing Dynamics of Complex Human Behaviour

In ambient intelligent systems, monitoring of a human could consist of more complex tasks than merely identifying whether a certain value of a sensor is above a certain threshold. Instead, such tasks may involve monitoring of complex dynamic interactions between human and environment. In order to enable such more complex types of monitoring, this paper presents a generic agent-based framework. The framework consists of support on various levels of system design, namely: (1) the top level, including the interaction between agents, (2) the agent level, providing support on the design of individual agents, and (3) the level of monitoring complex dynamic behaviour, allowing the specification of the aforementioned complex monitoring properties within the agents. The approach is exemplified by a large case study concerning the assessment of driving behaviour, and is applied to two smaller cases as well (concerning fall detection of elderly, and assistance of naval operations, respectively), which are briefly described. These case studies have illustrated that the presented framework enables developers within ambient intelligence to build systems with more expressiveness regarding their monitoring focus. Moreover, they have shown that the framework is easy to use and applicable in a wide variety of domains. © 2011 - IOS Press and the authors. All rights reserved

Formal Analysis of Trust Dynamics in Human and Software Agent Experiments

Item does not contain fulltextRecognizing that trust states are mental states, this paper presents a formal analysis of the dynamics of trust in terms of the functional roles and representation relations for trust states. This formal analysis is done both in a logical framework and in a mathematical framework based on integral and differential equations. Furthermore, the paper presents formal specifications of a number of relevant dynamic properties of trust. The specifications provided were used to perform automated formal analysis of empirical and simulated data from two case studies, one involving two experiments with humans, and one involving simulation experiments in the context of an economic game.11th International Workshop on Cooperative Information Agents, CIA 2007, Delft, The Netherlands, September 19-21, 200

    Verifying RoboCup Teams

Pocreeding of: 5th International Workshop on Model Checking and Artificial Intelligence. MOCHART-2008, Patras, Greece, july, 21st, 2008.Verification of multi-agent systems is a challenging task due to their dynamic nature, and the complex interactions between agents. An example of such a system is the RoboCup Soccer Simulator, where two teams of eleven independent agents play a game of football against each other. In the present article we attempt to verify a number of properties of RoboCup football teams, using a methodology involving testing. To accomplish such testing in an efficient manner we use the McErlang model checker, as it affords precise control of the scheduling of the agents, and provides convenient access to the internal states and actions of the agents of the football teams. This work has been partially supported by the FP7-ICT-2007-1 project ProTest (215868), a Ramón y Cajal grant from the Spanish Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia, and the Spanish national projects TRA2007-67374-C02-02, TIN2006-15660-C02- 02 (DESAFIOS) and S-0505/TIC/0407 (PROMESAS).Publicad
