Reputation and Credibility. Mistakes in… Mistake Management
AbstractThe core value and ultimate purpose of the image policies is Credibility. Unfortunately, nothing is more mysterious in the public communication field than the subject's credibility. The credibility formula is the “cornerstone” of Public Relations and if it were a scientific formula we would teach it in schools. Should someone discover this formula he/she would master the world or at least would control his/her own life horizon. For starters, two things must be said regarding credibility. First of all, it is an excellent strategic reserve for possible image crisis; in other words, credibility represents a sort of “save money for a rainy day”. Second of all, it is never gained once and for all, we cannot anchor it on solid ground; its world resembles the moving sands. If we represent a player in the public arena, it is a crime not to have a damage limitation strategy that is a mistake management strategy. Mistakes can be made in any field of activity but its management implies the same elements. When a mistake is acknowledged, the first steps must be taken towards its management. We shall see that this may lead us to a credibility gain
Plan B for Europe : the Birth of 'Disobedient Euroscepticism'?
Altres ajuts: Acord transformatiu CRUE-CSICDespite attempts in the broader literature to go beyond a binary classification of party-based Euroscepticism, Eurosceptic radical left parties are still generally divided into those advocating reform of the EU and those calling for an exit from the EU. The most notable exception is the classification proposed by Keith (2017), who distinguishes between Rejectionist, Conditional and Expansionist Euroscepticism. However, this article argues that a new form of left-wing Euroscepticism has emerged since 2016, which does not fit with any of the existing classifications. It is the position put forward by 'Plan B for Europe', a transnational initiative of radical left parties, which advocates a disobedient approach towards the EU that simultaneously aims for the reformation of the latter while preparing for a break from it. This is a novel type of party-based Euroscepticism that should supplement Keith's classification
Thinking as Translation. The Silent Dialogue with Myself as Another
Congreso Internacional celebrado en la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid del 24 al 26 de septiembre de 2012In this paper, I argue that the activity of translating can be found at the very core of
philosophizing, in the experience of thinking itself. Firstly, I argue that a genuine translation entails thinking
together with the translated author, by imagining a dialogue with him or her. Secondly, I argue that thinking
itself is a process of translation. Starting form Plato’s and Aristotle’s depictions of thinking as dialogue, I
argue that we can find a similar treatment of thinking in Heidegger’s analysis of the “voice of conscience”,
and I show how the dialogue with my own conscience has a translative effect: it transports me from the
inauthenticity of my everyday life towards my possible and better self. Thus, not only translation, but thinking
too is a form of hospitality, the thinker being a host for his own possible self
Emerging ethical challenges in researching vulnerable groups during the COVID-19
This article is part of the project MIGRADEMO that has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, Grant agreement No.726405.This paper discusses the lasting impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on research ethics in social sciences by focusing on the concept of vulnerability. We unpack the current conceptualisations of vulnerability and their limitations and argue for the need to reconceptualise vulnerability as multidimensional, consisting of both universal and contextual dimensions, as well as their dynamic interplay. Multidimensional vulnerability is inspired by and relevant to social science research during the pandemic but can also be useful in other contexts such as climate change or conflict. The paper puts forwards several considerations about how this revised concept of vulnerability may be useful when evaluating ethical dimensions of social science research
Mathematical model of the belt bucket elevator’s movement dynamics with one-side constraint of the pulling element
Розроблено математичну модель вертикального стрічкового ківшового елеватора, в якій тяговий орган (стрічка) представлено як пружний елемент з одностороннім зв’язком, що працює на розтяг, через кусочні функції зміни реакцій у цьому ж елементі.The mathematical model of the vertical belt bucket elevator has been developed. In this model the pulling element is presented by piecewise function as an elastic element with one-side constraint and works in tension
Structure and semantics of verbal means of expressing states of emotional tension in english publicistic texts
The aim of the research is to contribute to a deeper understanding of the role and functioning of verbal means of expressing emotional tension in journalistic texts. Methods. The research involves such methods as comparative analysis, transformational analysis, contextual analysis, pragma-semantic analysis. Statistical processing and validation of the obtained data was carried out using Cronbach’s alpha and mean square. Results. The results of the study helped to identify the linguistic features of expressing states of emotional tension. A total of 272 interjections that reflect emotional stress were found in the studied corpus. In general, 589 contexts of the use of modal words, which have the colouring of emotional tension, were also analysed. Conclusions. The study found that emotional stress in journalistic texts is strongly dependent on the context in which it is used. Understanding emotional expressions requires taking into account the sociocultural context, the goals of communication, and the relationship between communicators. Prospects. Further research can expand the scope and diversity of the corpus of journalistic texts, which will enable obtaining more representative results. Adding different genres, time periods, and authors will give a more complete picture of the verbal means of expressing emotional tension
