Con gran satisfacción cerramos el año 2019, con la certeza de haber cumplido el compromiso asumido con la sociedad del conocimiento, la de seguir siendo una ventana abierta y plural, de la divulgación de los aportes de investigaciones científicas en el campo de las Ciencias Sociales. Si bien, durante este lapso enfrentamos grandes dificultades y vicisitudes, ocasionadas por un entorno adverso y desafiante, no es menos cierto, que, gracias al esfuerzo y la constancia del Equipo Editorial alcanzamos e incluso superamos los objetivos planteados para este períod

No “Pobrecito Student”: Translanguaging High-School Science For Academic Language Development

Borré, A. (2022). No “Pobrecito Student”: Translanguaging High-School Science for Academic Language Development. The research questions addressed in this study were: what are the impacts of translanguaging on academic language development? And what are the challenges and successes in implementing translanguaging in highly culturally and linguistically diverse classrooms? Thus, the topics explored in the literature review range from research on academic language development and the teaching and learning of science in high school and the struggles and challenges English Language Learners (ELLs) face when learning then different content areas. The literature review also reveals some of the findings emerging from the implementation of translanguaging in bi/multilingual classrooms. This study involved a cohort of 12 level 5 ELLs from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in an Academic Writing class. Participants were instructed and encouraged to strategically incorporate their home languages through the use of different translanguaging practices in a unit of work on Pollution and Climate Change. Participants were given a pre-test in which they had to write a paragraph describing the environmental issue they could see on a picture using the Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning (CER) format. The objective was to observe and examine the impact of translanguaging practices in the classroom and assess the challenges and areas of success. A mixed-methods approach was used to assess the impact and growth. Both quantitative and qualitative data collection tools were used including pre/post-test and observation rubrics, assessments given to students, and the teacher research journal. Data revealed growth in terms of paragraph organization and the complexity and variety of sentences. The results suggest that translanguaging impacted participants’ identity, sense of agency, and participation in class. Implications, limitations, and recommendations for future research are discussed

Análisis de la responsabilidad penal de los adolescentes a la luz de los esquemas filosóficos del delito

Trabajo de investigaciónCon la aparición de la Ley 1098 de 2006 (Código de la Infancia y la Adolescencia) se introduce al ordenamiento jurídico colombiano un sistema de responsabilidad penal especial para los mayores de 14 y menores de 18 años infractores de la ley penal. Se trata del Sistema de Responsabilidad Penal para Adolescentes más conocido por su sigla como „SRPA’. En éste trabajo intentaremos determinar las similitudes y diferencias entre los esquemas filosóficos del delito en lo que se refiere a la responsabilidad penal de los menores de 18 años, a su vez, buscaremos conceptuar negativamente respecto a la posibilidad de que se igualen las penales imponibles a estos dos sujetos de derecho.PregradoAbogad

O trabalho aqui apresentado traz alguns dados sobre envelhecimento que apontam para a importância de estratégias de gestão que valorizem o bem-estar da população idosa, entre essas, aqui especificamente interessa os grupos de convívência. A partir de uma entrevista com uma professora do Projeto de Extensão ULBRATI (Ulbra Terceira Idade) foi possível pensar em especificidades da gestão de grupos que possam trazer outras perspectivas sobre o convívio e sobre a própria forma de entender a velhice

Sistema de gestión y control de interventorías para la contratación de la administración pública bajo entorno web

El sistema de gestión y control de interventorías brinda una opción al manejo de la información contractual de las entidades del estado a nivel nacional.  Se presenta como un sistema basado en la arquitectura de aplicaciones distribuidas en .NET, que usa la metodología Rational Unified Process (RUP). Esto le permite realizar un levantamiento exhaustivo de requerimientos con el cual detecta los defectos en las fases iniciales, intenta reducir el número de cambios tanto como sea posible y el diseño genérico intenta anticiparse a futuras necesidades. Entre los principales aportes que brinda el sistema está la continuidad en el negocio, la escalabilidad de la aplicación, la disponibilidad y tiempos de respuesta mucho más bajos, además de solucionar el problema de la falta de fiabilidad de la información, ya que se estandariza de una entidad para todos sus funcionarios, evitando la redundancia de información

Machine Learning for causal Inference on Observational Data

The established scientific way to make claims about cause and effect is to perform a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT). However, although RCTs are the best way to determine causal effects, the chances to perform such rigorous scientific experiments is, most often, either impossible or unethical. The Average Treatment Effect (ATE) is usually the outcome of the RCT experiments and this outcome is ideally proof of an effect under the studied population, which hopefully extends to other individuals. In contrast, it is most common to find Observational Data, in which the data that has been collected might be heavily unbalanced for treatment assignments, or the patients covariates might come from completely different distributions. Nevertheless, the ultimate goal of causal effects is to find the specific Individual Treatment Effect (ITE) for each patient. Identifying the Individual Treatment Effect is a topic that has always been important in the field of causality, especially within the machine learning community. Applications of such predictions are related with medicine, but can be extensively used in financial investments, advertisement placements, recommender systems for retail and social sciences, and beyond. The ability to learn complex non-linear relationships of some machine learning algorithms have been trying to detect and predict policies, in which given the particular features of an individual (patient) the algorithms could determine whether or not to apply the treatment to them. In this thesis, the ITE will be predicted using a benchmark semi synthetic-dataset which has been unbalanced. Assuming strong ignorability, alternative machine learning techniques that had not been tested in past publications will be applied to predict the ITE from observational data. The results obtained are compared with state-of-the-art outcomes; some of the algorithms applied in this work performed similarly to more complex, custom designed methods.
