Efficient co-templating roles of amines and amides admixed with alkylammonium salts for the stabilisation of new AlPO4-n topologies

    Get PDF
Two different aluminophosphate structures were synthesised in aqueous media using as main template methylamine (MA), directly added, or generated in situ from methylformamide (MF). Both involve novel AlPO4-n topologies that undergo structural transformations upon template removal, yielding above 350°C microporous thermostable materials with interesting properties. Tetraalkylammonium (TEA) cations were used optionally as co-templates along with MA. Only non protonated MA was found incorporated into the pore volume of both structures, in relatively strong interaction with the framework oxygens. TEA appeared to stabilise one of the phases at defined stages of nucleation and/or growth processes, without playing any specific structure-directing role

Steady states in a structured epidemic model with Wentzell boundary condition

We introduce a nonlinear structured population model with diffusion in the state space. Individuals are structured with respect to a continuous variable which represents a pathogen load. The class of uninfected individuals constitutes a special compartment that carries mass, hence the model is equipped with generalized Wentzell (or dynamic) boundary conditions. Our model is intended to describe the spread of infection of a vertically transmitted disease, for example Wolbachia in a mosquito population. Therefore the (infinite dimensional) nonlinearity arises in the recruitment term. First we establish global existence of solutions and the Principle of Linearised Stability for our model. Then, in our main result, we formulate simple conditions, which guarantee the existence of non-trivial steady states of the model. Our method utilizes an operator theoretic framework combined with a fixed point approach. Finally, in the last section we establish a sufficient condition for the local asymptotic stability of the positive steady state

EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL EVALUATION OF AN IN-FLIGHT ANGLE OF ATTACK MEASUREMENT SYSTEM FOR HIGH POWER MODEL ROCKETS

The angle of attack (α) affects the drag, flight path, and flight stability during rocket ascent. This work proposes an in-flight α measurement system based on pressure measurements at the surface of the nosecone for low apogee rockets. An electronic micro differential pressure transducer was selected to measure the pressure difference between selected points in the rocket’s nosecone. Wind tunnel tests were performed to correlate the α with the sensor output at low Mach numbers (Ma ≃ 0.08). The experimental results were further used as a reference for the construction of CFD models of the external flow in the rocket’s nosecone with the aim of predicting the measurements in an extended Mach number range (up to Ma ≃ 0.7). The numerical results allowed for an extended model correlating α with the differential pressure transducer output (Ch). The estimate of model’s errors completes the analysis

    Colour Deconfinement and Quarkonium Binding

At high temperatures, strongly interacting matter becomes a plasma of deconfined quarks and gluons. In statistical QCD, deconfinement and the properties of the resulting quark-gluon plasma can be investigated by studying the in-medium behaviour of heavy quark bound states. In high energy nuclear interactions, quarkonia probe different aspects of the medium formed in the collision. We survey the results of recent charmonium production studies in SPS and RHIC experiments.Comment: 50 pages, 53 figures; revised section 6.

[Performance of lambs of ewes in thinned and enriched caatinga rangelands with different amounts of concentrate offered]. Abstract: Were evaluated in this study, the performance of lambs of ewes Somalis brasileira in thinned and enriched caatinga rangeland with different amounts of concentrate offered. For this, the weight development of lambs was measured by biweekly weights. Lambs of non supplemented ewes showed lower weights at birth and weaning compared to other treatments (P<0.05). With supplementation of concentrates at pre and post calving of ewes in caatinga rangelands, increases the lambs viability

Morphology of supported polymer electrolyte ultra-thin films: a numerical study

Morphology of polymer electrolytes membranes (PEM), e.g., Nafion, inside PEM fuel cell catalyst layers has significant impact on the electrochemical activity and transport phenomena that determine cell performance. In those regions, Nafion can be found as an ultra-thin film, coating the catalyst and the catalyst support surfaces. The impact of the hydrophilic/hydrophobic character of these surfaces on the structural formation of the films has not been sufficiently explored yet. Here, we report about Molecular Dynamics simulation investigation of the substrate effects on the ionomer ultra-thin film morphology at different hydration levels. We use a mean-field-like model we introduced in previous publications for the interaction of the hydrated Nafion ionomer with a substrate, characterized by a tunable degree of hydrophilicity. We show that the affinity of the substrate with water plays a crucial role in the molecular rearrangement of the ionomer film, resulting in completely different morphologies. Detailed structural description in different regions of the film shows evidences of strongly heterogeneous behavior. A qualitative discussion of the implications of our observations on the PEMFC catalyst layer performance is finally proposed
