    Le SIG, un outil de gestion de l'eau dans un périmètre irrigué: cas du secteur S7 au Gharb, Maroc

    International audienceDepuis un siècle, la création de réseaux collectifs d'irrigation a été un moyen au service de la puissance publique pour atteindre ses objectifs de politique agricole et d'aménagement du territoire. En 1961, l'office national des irrigations s'est fixé une doctrine de l'intervention en matière de développement hydro agricole : priorité à la grande hydraulique, création de grands périmètres irrigués, mise au point d'un modèle d'aménagement, introduction des cultures sucrières et du contrat de cultures entre l'Etat et les agriculteurs, création de structures locales d'intervention plus proches des agriculteurs (les centres de mise en valeur). Ce modèle technique de l'aménagement hydro-agricole, notamment dans le périmètre irrigué du Gharb, résolvait, avec élégance, le problème majeur de l'articulation et de la gestion de nombreuses données dans un aménagement intégré : satisfaction des besoins en eau, disposition des cultures et des propriétés de façon à permettre le respect de l'assolement préconisé et la distribution des doses d'eau appropriées aux besoins des cultures. Le début des années1990 a été marqué par le désengagement de l'Etat du suivi de la gestion des périmètres irrigués et la libéralisation des assolements. Ainsi, libres dans leurs choix de production, les agriculteurs ont transformé leur système de production pour faire face à la nouvelle conjoncture économique (signature des accords de libre échange avec l'Europe et les USA, etc.). Dans ce nouveau contexte, le rôle des offices régionaux de mise en valeur agricole (Ormva) s'est limité à la prestation du service de vente de l'eau d'irrigation, de la gestion du réseau d'irrigation et de l'encadrement des agriculteurs. Les Ormva, se sont trouvés incapables de suivre la quasi-totalité des agriculteurs faisant partie de leur zone d'action. Cela est dû d'une part, à l'immensité des périmètres irrigués et, d'autre part, au manque de moyens humains et logistiques mis à la disposition des Ormva. La représentation cartographique reste le meilleur outil de la présentation de l'espace, mais pour la rendre dynamique, et en faire un outil de la création de dialogue entre les acteurs il faut lui donner un caractère dynamique. Une première analyse du système d'information de l'Ormva du Gharb a montré l'existence de nombreuses informations sur les cultures pratiquées, les consommations en eau qui peuvent générer de la connaissance sur ce qui se passe réellement sur le périmètre, mais ces informations sont dispersées dans les différents services, entre lesquels la circulation de ces données est presque inexistante. Ces données ne sont pas exploitées, ni vérifiées à cause de la difficulté de l'outil de gestion des données mis en place par l'Ormva et de l'immensité de l'effectif des détenteurs de codes (agriculteurs). Pour faire face à cette situation, la mise en place d'un dispositif d'observation territorial demeure une démarche indispensable pour la gestion des périmètres irrigués. Pour surmonter le problème d'accès à l'information, il est préconisé de mettre en place une cellule d'observation, qui sera formée des agents de plusieurs départements de l'Ormva, ce qui facilitera la disponibilité, la fluidité, le traitement des données et la circulation de l'information

    Spinning particle in an external linearized gravitational wave field

    We study the interaction of a scalar and a spinning particle with a coherent linearized gravitational wave field treated as a classical spin two external field. The spin degrees of freedom of the spinning particle are described by skew-commuting variables. We derive the explicit expressions for the eigenfunctions and the Green's functions of the theory. The discussion is exact within the approximation of neglecting radiative corrections and we prove that the result is completely determined by the semiclassical contribution.Comment: 11 page

    Reverberation Mapping Results for Five Seyfert 1 Galaxies

    We present the results from a detailed analysis of photometric and spectrophotometric data on five Seyfert 1 galaxies observed as a part of a recent reverberation mapping program. The data were collected at several observatories over a 140-day span beginning in 2010 August and ending in 2011 January. We obtained high sampling-rate light curves for Mrk 335, Mrk 1501, 3C120, Mrk 6, and PG2130+099, from which we have measured the time lag between variations in the 5100 Angstrom continuum and the H-beta broad emission line. We then used these measurements to calculate the mass of the supermassive black hole at the center of each of these galaxies. Our new measurements substantially improve previous measurements of MBH and the size of the broad line-emitting region for four sources and add a measurement for one new object. Our new measurements are consistent with photoionization physics regulating the location of the broad line region in active galactic nuclei.Comment: 45 pages, 5 figures.     Rare-earth elements in the atmosphere of the magnetic chemically peculiar star HD 144897. New classification of the Nd III spectrum

    We have obtained a UVES spectrum of a slowly rotating strongly magnetic Ap star, HD 144897, that exhibits very large overabundances of rare-earth elements. Here we present a detailed spectral analysis of this object, also taking into account effects of non-uniform vertical distribution (stratification) of chemical elements. We have determined the photospheric abundances of 40 ions. For seven elements (Mg, Si, Ca, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe), we have obtained a stratification model that allow us to produce a satisfactory fit to the observed profiles of spectral lines of various strength. REEs abundances, that for the first time in the literature have been determined from the lines of the first and second ions, have been found typically four dex larger than solar abundances. Our analysis of REE spectral lines provide a strong support to the laboratory line classification and determination of the atomic parameters. The only remarkable exception is Nd III, for which spectral synthesis was found to be inconsistent with the observations. We have therefore performed a revision of the Nd III classification. We have confirmed the energies for 11 out of 24 odd energy levels classified previously, and we have derived the energies for additional 24 levels of Nd III, thereby increasing substantially the number of classified Nd III lines with corrected wavelengths and atomic parameters.Comment: 22 pages; accepted by A&

    An Atlas of K-line Spectra for Cool Magnetic CP Stars: The Wing-Nib Anomaly (WNA)

    We present a short atlas illustrating the unusual Ca {\sc ii} K-line profiles in upper main sequence stars with anomalous abundances. Slopes of the profiles for 10 cool, magnetic chemically peculiar (CP) stars change abruptly at the very core, forming a deep "nib." The nibs show the same or nearly the same radial velocity as the other atomic lines. The near wings are generally more shallow than in normal stars. In three magnetic CP stars, the K-lines are too weak to show this shape, though the nibs themselves are arguably present. The Ca {\sc ii} H-lines also show deep nibs, but the profiles are complicated by the nearby, strong Hϵ\epsilon absorption. The K-line structure is nearly unchanged with phase in β\beta CrB and α\alpha Cir. Calculations, including NLTE, show that other possibilities in addition to chemical stratification may yield nib-like cores.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, and 8 figures; accepted for publication in ApJ

    Reverberation Mapping of the Seyfert 1 Galaxy NGC 7469

    A large reverberation mapping study of the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 7469 has yielded emission-line lags for Hbeta 4861 and He II 4686 and a central black hole mass measurement of about 10 million solar masses, consistent with previous measurements. A very low level of variability during the monitoring campaign precluded meeting our original goal of recovering velocity-delay maps from the data, but with the new Hbeta measurement, NGC 7469 is no longer an outlier in the relationship between the size of the Hbeta-emitting broad-line region and the AGN luminosity. It was necessary to detrend the continuum and Hbeta and He II 4686 line light curves and those from archival UV data for different time-series analysis methods to yield consistent results.Comment: 9 Pages, 7 figures, 6 tables.     Lessons from Love-Locks: The archaeology of a contemporary assemblage

Those who research ritual frequently encounter difficulties in the interpretation of its often tantalisingly incomplete material record. Careful analysis of material remains may afford us glimpses into past ritual activity, but our often vast chronological separation from the ritual practitioners themselves prevent us from seeing the whole picture. The archaeologist engaging with structured deposits, for instance, is often forced to study ritual assemblages post-accumulation. Many nuances of its formation, therefore, may be lost in interpretation. This paper considers what insights an archaeologist could gain into the place, people, pace, and purpose of deposition by recording an accumulation of structured deposits during its formation, rather than after. To answer this, the paper will focus on a contemporary depositional practice: the love-lock. This custom involves the inscribing of names/initials onto a padlock, its attachment to a bridge or other public structure, and the deposition of the corresponding key into the water below; a ritual often enacted by a couple as a statement of their romantic commitment. Drawing on empirical data from a three-year diachronic site-specific investigation into a love-lock bridge in Manchester, UK, the author demonstrates the value of contemporary archaeology in engaging with the often enigmatic material culture of ritual accumulations.Peer reviewe

    Plugging a hole and lightening the burden: A process evaluation of a practice education team

    Aim: To investigate the perceptions of clinical and senior managers about the role of Practice Educators employed in one acute hospital in the UK. Background: Producing nurses who are fit for practice, purpose and academic award is a key issue for nurse education partnership providers in the UK. Various new models for practice learning support structures and new roles within health care institutions have been established. To sustain funding and policy support for these models, there is a need for evaluation research. Design: A process evaluation methodology was employed to determine the current value of a practice education team and to provide information to guide future direction. Methods: Data were collected through semi-structured telephone interviews using a previously designed schedule. All senior nurse managers (N=5) and a purposive sample of clinical managers (n=13) who had personal experience of and perceptions about the role of practice educators provided the data. Interview notes were transcribed, coded and a thematic framework devised to present the results. Results: A number of key themes emerged including: qualities needed for being a successful practice educator; visibility and presence of practice educators; providing a link with the university; ‘plugging a hole’ in supporting learning needs; providing relief to practitioners in dealing with ‘the burden of students’; alleviating the ‘plight of students’; and effects on student attrition. Conclusions: Findings provided evidence for the continued funding of the practice educator role with improvements to be made in dealing with stakeholder expectations and outcomes. Relevance to clinical practice: In the UK, there still remain concerns about the fitness for practice of newly registered nurses, prompting a recent national consultation by the professional regulating body. Despite fiscal pressures, recommendations for further strengthening of all systems that will support the quality of practice learning may continue to sustain practice learning support roles

    Abundance analysis of two late A-type stars HD 32115 and HD 37594

    We have performed abundance analysis of two slowly rotating, late A-type stars, HD 32115 (HR 1613) and HD 37594 (HR 1940), based on obtained echelle spectra covering the spectral range 4000-9850 AAngstrom. These spectra allowed us to identify an extensive line list for 31 chemical elements, the most complete to date for A-type stars. Two approaches to abundance analysis were used, namely a ``manual'' (interactive) and a semi-automatic procedure for comparison of synthetic and observed spectra and equivalent widths. For some elements non-LTE (NLTE) calculations were carried out and the corresponding corrections have been applied. The abundance pattern of HD 32115 was found to be very close to the solar abundance pattern, and thus may be used as an abundance standard for chemical composition studies in middle and late A stars. Further, its H-alpha line profile shows no core-to-wing anomaly like that found for cool Ap stars and therefore also may be used as a standard in comparative studies of the atmospheric structures of cool, slowly rotating Ap stars. HD 37594 shows a metal deficiency at the level of -0.3 dex for most elements and triangle-like cores of spectral lines. This star most probably belongs to the Delta Scuti group.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
