The Preventive Conservation held in temporary exhibitions is one of the actions of the Conservation and Restoration sector in Museum of Art Pampulha, Belo Horizonte / MG, for the preservation of institutional art collection and the other collections. Put into practice from the 1990s these actions were expanded in 2008, with reference to the publication Conservación preventiva y procedimientos en exposiciones temporales (2008), and go through several revisions until today. In this way, we aimed to addressing the steps taken by the area of Conservation and Restoration in temporary exhibitions; report on the use of these procedures by the Conservation and Restoration sector of the Museum of Art Pampulha; present the application of the methodology published by the Spanish Group of the IIC in an exhibition held by the MAP; and, finally, show the work of the conservator-restorer in the course of building an exposure of the pre to post-production, through the exhibition period.A Conservação Preventiva realizada em exposições temporárias é uma das ações do setor de Conservação e Restauração do Museu de Arte da Pampulha, Belo Horizonte/ MG, para a preservação do acervo artístico institucional e do acervo de terceiros. A reduction in CD90 (THY-1) expression results in increased differentiation of mesenchymal stromal cells

Background: Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are multipotent progenitor cells used in several cell therapies. MSCs are characterized by the expression of CD73, CD90, and CD105 cell markers, and the absence of CD34, CD45, CD11a, CD19, and HLA-DR cell markers. CD90 is a glycoprotein present in the MSC membranes and also in adult cells and cancer stem cells. The role of CD90 in MSCs remains unknown. Here, we sought to analyse the role that CD90 plays in the characteristic properties of in vitro expanded human MSCs. Methods: We investigated the function of CD90 with regard to morphology, proliferation rate, suppression of T-cell proliferation, and osteogenic/adipogenic differentiation of MSCs by reducing the expression of this marker using CD90-target small hairpin RNA lentiviral vectors. Results: The present study shows that a reduction in CD90 expression enhances the osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation of MSCs in vitro and, unexpectedly, causes a decrease in CD44 and CD166 expression. Conclusion: Our study suggests that CD90 controls the differentiation of MSCs by acting as an obstacle in the pathway of differentiation commitment. This may be overcome in the presence of the correct differentiation stimuli, supporting the idea that CD90 level manipulation may lead to more efficient differentiation rates in vitro

The objective of this descriptive study was to characterize the transfers of mothers from the Sapopemba Birth Center to reference hospitals in São Paulo, from September 1998 to July 2008. The studied population was 229 cases of mother transfers. Data were obtained from medical records and record books of the transferred women. Descriptive analysis was performed. The transfer rate was 5.8% (5.5% in the intrapartum period and 0.3% in the postpartum period). Most women who were transferred to the hospital were nulliparous (78.6%). The most common reason for intrapartum transfers was fetal or pelvis abnormalities (22.6%), and abnormal placental detachment (50%) for women in the postpartum period. Some conditions such as nulliparity, cervical dilation at admission, rupture of the membranes and gestational age over 40 weeks were highlighted as important variables for studying the risk factors for mothers being transferred.Estudio descriptivo que objetivó caracterizar las remociones maternas de la Casa del Parto de Sapopemba-SP para hospitales de referencia entre setiembre 1998 y julio 2008. Occurrence of Aspergillus niger strains on a polychrome cotton painting and their elimination by anoxic treatment

This study aimed to isolate and identify the population of filamentous fungi colonizing a cotton painting, whose conservation status was compromised and showed signs of biodeterioration due to dirt accumulation and microbial metabolism. In addition, microbiological techniques such as cultivation-dependent approach and molecular biology were used to identify microbial populations and to eliminate their metabolic action. For this, the nondestructive anoxic atmosphere technique was used, in which the microbial metabolism was affected by the absence of oxygen. Prior to exposure to an anoxic atmosphere, only one fungal species, Aspergillus niger, was identified at 12 points sampled in the obverse and reverse of the artwork; no fungal species persisted as a result of anoxic treatment. These results showed that exposure to anoxic conditions was effective for the total elimination of isolated fungal strains as well as their spores. In conclusion, this study proved the unprecedented effectiveness of a nondestructive technique for artwork on textile colonized by black fungi species. Thus, this interdisciplinary work involving conservation, microbiology, and chemistry presents a tool to eliminate microorganisms, while maintaining the integrity of artwork and safety of the restorer, that can be applied prior to artwork restoration. The accepted manuscript in pdf format is listed with the files at the bottom of this page.
