Heat Conduction Process on Community Networks as a Recommendation Model
Using heat conduction mechanism on a social network we develop a systematic
method to predict missing values as recommendations. This method can treat very
large matrices that are typical of internet communities. In particular, with an
innovative, exact formulation that accommodates arbitrary boundary condition,
our method is easy to use in real applications. The performance is assessed by
comparing with traditional recommendation methods using real data.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Local Environment of Ferromagnetically Ordered Mn in Epitaxial InMnAs
The magnetic properties of the ferromagnetic semiconductor In0.98Mn0.02As
were characterized by x-ray absorption spectroscopy and x-ray magnetic circular
dichroism. The Mn exhibits an atomic-like L2,3 absorption spectrum that
indicates that the 3d states are highly localized. In addition, a large
dichroism at the Mn L2,3 edge was observed from 5-300 K at an applied field of
2T. A calculated spectrum assuming atomic Mn2+ yields the best agreement with
the experimental InMnAs spectrum. A comparison of the dichroism spectra of MnAs
and InMnAs show clear differences suggesting that the ferromagnetism observed
in InMnAs is not due to hexagonal MnAs clusters. The temperature dependence of
the dichroism indicates the presence of two ferromagnetic species, one with a
transition temperature of 30 K and another with a transition temperature in
excess of 300 K. The dichroism spectra are consistent with the assignment of
the low temperature species to random substitutional Mn and the high

Recommendation model based on opinion diffusion
Information overload in the modern society calls for highly efficient
recommendation algorithms. In this letter we present a novel diffusion based
recommendation model, with users' ratings built into a transition matrix. To
speed up computation we introduce a Green function method. The numerical tests
on a benchmark database show that our prediction is superior to the standard

A dermatologist guide to immunogenicity
AbstractDermatologists should be aware that autoantibody formation may occur after the initiation of biologic therapy. This phenomenon has been referred to as immunogenicity and biologic fatigue. Because of this, patients may experience loss of clinical efficacy to a particular drug. To combat this phenomenon, low-dose immunomodulators may be used in hopes of preventing autoantibodies. We review the current literature and provide a basic treatment algorithm for patients with moderate to severe psoriasis
P53 is active in murine stem cells and alters the transcriptome in a manner that is reminiscent of mutant p53
Since it was found that p53 is highly expressed in murine embryonic stem cells, it remained a mystery whether p53 is active in this cell type. We show that a significant part of p53 is localised in the nucleus of murine embryonic stem cells and that the majority of this nuclear p53 is bound to DNA. According to its nuclear localisation, we show that p53 alters the transcriptional program of stem cells. Nevertheless, the anti-proliferative activity of p53 is compromised in stem cells, and this control is due, at least in part, to the high amount of MdmX that is present in embryonic stem cells and bound to p53. Instead of the anti-proliferative activity that p53 has in differentiated cells, p53 controls transcription of pro-proliferative genes in embryonic stem cells including c-myc and c-jun. The impeded anti-proliferative activity of p53 and the induction of certain proto-oncogenes by p53 in murine embryonic stem cells can explain why stem cells proliferate efficiently despite having high levels of p53
Painting the ideal home: using art to express visions of technologically supported independent living for older people in North East England
This paper describes the investigation of the development of future technological products to support older people in everyday living through the agency of a community art group. Recent research has identified a number of challenges facing designers seeking to use traditional participatory design approaches to gather technology requirements data from older people. Here, a project is described that sought to get a group of older people to think creatively about their needs and desires for technological support through the medium of paint. The artistic expression technique described in this article allowed the identification of issues that had also been found by previous research that used a range of different techniques. This indicates that the approach shows promise, as it allows information to be gathered in an environment that is comfortable and familiar using methods already known by the participants and which they find enjoyable. It provides a complement (or possible alternative) to standard protocols and has the potential benefit of extracting even richer information as the primary task for participants is enjoyable in its own right and is not associated with an interrogative process. Furthermore, it is argued that some of the key risks of traditional approaches are lessened or removed by the naturalistic setting of this approach
