Risk and protective factors for release in outpatients with schizophrenia
eposterWe aim to determine risk and protective factors influencing relapse incidence in outpatient with schizophrenia.
A longitudinal, observational study was done with outpatients with schizophrenia (F20) or schizoaffective disorder (F25)(DMS-IV and ICD-10), without hospitalization during the previous 6 months. The patients were consecutively included into the study to received oral (O-A) or long-acting injectable (depot-A) antipsychotics. Clinical stage evolution, compliance, efficacy and safety assessments (including PANSS, CGI-SSI, hospitalization rates, and adverse events) were recorded before and after 6 and 12 months of treatment.
Results: 60 outpatients (aged 34.5±8.9, male 73%), 75% schizophrenia and 25% schizoaffective disorder diagnosis, 68.3% fewer than 15 years of schizophrenia evolution, 76.7% fewer than 5 times previous hospitalizations were treated with O-A (41.7%) or depot-A (58.3%) antipsychotics for at least one year. Depot-A treated patients showed a significant higher compliance compared to O-A patients during the all following time, lower PANSS (total, positive and negative) scores and CGI-SSI score (p<0.01), and a delayed relapse incidence and re-hospitalization to more than 1 year in the 48% of patients (relapse % depot/% oral) after 6 months 22.9%/52.0%, and after 12 months 48.6%/4.0%.
Conclusion: There were protective factors which delayed relapse incidence in schizophrenia: Use of sustained-release preparations, family support. There were risk factors for occurrence of relapse in schizophrenia: cocaine, heroin and alcohol consumption, absence of family support, greater severity of patients assessed through CGI-SI, male sex, age older than 25 years and long-term evolution of the disorder.Universidad de Málaga. On the usefulness of finding charts Or the runaway carbon stars of the Blanco & McCarthy field 37
We have been recently faced with the problem of cross--identifying stars
recorded in historical catalogues with those extracted from recent fully
digitized surveys (such as DENIS and 2MASS). Positions mentioned in the old
catalogues are frequently of poor precision, but are generally accompanied by
finding charts where the interesting objects are flagged. Those finding charts
are sometimes our only link with the accumulated knowledge of past literature.
While checking the identification of some of these objects in several
catalogues, we had the surprise to discover a number of discrepancies in recent
works.The main reason for these discrepancies was generally the blind
application of the smallest difference in position as the criterion to identify
sources from one historical catalogue to those in more recent surveys. In this
paper we give examples of such misidentifications, and show how we were able to
find and correct them.We present modern procedures to discover and solve
cross--identification problems, such as loading digitized images of the sky
through the Aladin service at CDS, and overlaying entries from historical
catalogues and modern surveys. We conclude that the use of good finding charts
still remains the ultimate (though time--consuming) tool to ascertain

Las medidas de reflectividad, para las longitudes de onda comprendidas entre los 460 y 700 nm., se han obtenido por el método microfotométrico con incidencia normal y para las medidas de microdureza se ha utilizado el procedimiento de la penetración estática. Los minerales estudiados han sido identiÃicados mediante la difracción de rayos X. Se ha establecido su composición quÃmica por la técnica de la microsonda electrónica

Diffusion of hydrogen interstitials in the near-surface region of Pd(111) under the influence of surface coverage and external static electric fields
Past scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) experiments of H manipulation on
Pd(111), at low temperature, have shown that it is possible to induce
diffusion of surface species as well as of those deeply buried under the
surface. Several questions remain open regarding the role of subsurface site
occupancies. In the present work, the interaction potential of H atoms with
Pd(111) under various H coverage conditions is determined by means of density
functional theory calculations in order to provide an answer to two of these
questions: (i) whether subsurface sites are the final locations for the H
impurities that attempt to emerge from bulk regions, and (ii) whether
penetration of the surface is a competing route of on-surface diffusion during
depletion of surface H on densely covered Pd(111). We find that a high H
coverage has the effect of blocking resurfacing of H atoms travelling from
below, which would otherwise reach the surface fcc sites, but it hardly alters
deeper diffusion energy barriers. Penetration is unlikely and restricted to
high occupancies of hcp hollows. In agreement with experiments, the Pd lattice
expands vertically as a consequence of H atoms being blocked at subsurface
sites, and surface H enhances this expansion. STM tip effects are included in
the calculations self-consistently as an external static electric field. The
main contribution to the induced surface electric dipoles originates from the
Pd substrate polarisability. We find that the electric field has a non-
negligible effect on the H-Pd potential in the vicinity of the topmost Pd
atomic layer, yet typical STM intensities of 1-2 VÅ−1 are insufficient to
invert the stabilities of the surface and subsurface equilibrium sites
Magnetic ordering in GdNi2B2C revisited by resonant x-ray scattering: evidence for the double-q model
Recent theoretical efforts aimed at understanding the nature of
antiferromagnetic ordering in GdNi2B2C predicted double-q ordering. Here we
employ resonant elastic x-ray scattering to test this theory against the
formerly proposed, single-q ordering scenario. Our study reveals a satellite
reflection associated with a mixed-order component propagation wave vector,
viz., (q_a,2q_b,0) with q_b = q_a approx= 0.55 reciprocal lattice units, the
presence of which is incompatible with single-q ordering but is expected from
the double-q model. A (3q_a,0,0) wave vector (i.e., third-order) satellite is
also observed, again in line with the double-q model. The temperature
dependencies of these along with that of a first-order satellite are compared
with calculations based on the double-q model and reasonable qualitative
agreement is found. By examining the azimuthal dependence of first-order
satellite scattering, we show the magnetic order to be, as predicted,
elliptically polarized at base temperature and find the temperature dependence
of the "out of a-b plane" moment component to be in fairly good agreement with
calculation. Our results provide qualitative support for the double-q model and
thus in turn corroborate the explanation for the "magnetoelastic paradox"

Optical/Near-Infrared Observations of GRO J1744-28
We present results from a series of optical (g and r-band) and near-infrared
(K'-band) observations of the region of the sky including the entire XTE and
ROSAT error circles for the ``Bursting Pulsar'' GRO J1744-28. These data were
taken with the Astrophysical Research Consortium's 3.5-m telescope at Apache
Point Observatory and with the 2.2-m telescope at the European Southern
Observatory. We see no new object, nor any significant brightening of any known
object, in these error circles, with the exception of an object detected in our
8 February 1996 image. This object has already been proposed as a near-infrared
counterpart to GRO J1744-28. While it is seen in only two of our ten 8 February
frames, there is no evidence that this is an instrumental artifact, suggesting
the possibility of near-infrared flares from GRO J1744-28, similar to those
that have been reported from the Rapid Burster. The distance to the ``Bursting
Pulsar'' must be more than 2 kpc, and we suggest that it is more than 7 kpc.Comment: 21 pages, 5 JPEG plates, 2 postscript figures. This paper will appear

Encouraging the return to museums through the through enriching of the experience and the feeling of pride
The aim of the current study is to investigate the effect of museum experiences on visitors' willingness to recommend a museum and desire to return, based on the influence of the perception of coolness and the feeling of authentic pride. A sample of 308 usable questionnaires retrieved from four Lisbon (Portugal) museums provide a good understanding of the drivers of revisit and recommend intentions.
Museum Atmospheric Cues contribute to the perception of Museum Coolness and the feeling of Authentic Pride, which, in turn, have an effect on the intentions to Recommend and Revisit a museum.
