Risk-Based Indifference Pricing in Jump Diffusion Markets with Regime-Switching

    Get PDF
This paper is concerned with risk indifference pricing of a European type contingent claim in an incomplete market, where the evolution of the price of the underlying stock is modeled by a regime-switching jump diffusion. The rationale of using such a model is that it can naturally capture the inherent randomness of a prototypical stock market by incorporating both small and big jumps of the prices as well as the qualitative changes of the market. While the model provides a realistic description of the real market, it does introduces substantial difficulty in the analysis. In particular, in contrast with the classical Black-Scholes model, there are infinitely many equivalent martingale measures and hence the price is not unique in our incomplete market. In particular, there exists a big gap between the commonly used sub- and super-hedging prices.\\ We approach this problem using the framework of risk-indifference pricing. By transforming the pricing problem to an equivalent stochastic game problem, we solve this problem via the associated Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-Issac equations. Consequently we obtain a new interval which is smaller than the interval from super- and sub-hedging

A Method for Greatly Reduced Edge Effects and Crosstalk in CCT Magnets

Iron-free CCT magnet design offers many advantages, one being the excellent field quality and the absence of multipole components. However, edge effects are present, although they tend to integrate out over the length of the magnet. Many modern accelerator applications, however, require that these magnets are placed in an area of rapidly varying optics parameters, so magnets with greatly reduced edge effects have an advantage. We have designed such a magnet (a quadrupole) by adding multipole components of the opposite sign to the edge distortions of the magnet. A possible application could be the final focus magnets of the FCC-ee, where beam sizes at the entry and exit point of the magnets vary by large factors. We have then used this technique to effectively eliminate cross talk between adjacent final focus quadrupoles for the incoming and outgoing beams.Comment: Poster presented at MT25,25th International Conference on Magnet Technology, Amsterdam, August 27 - September 1, 201

Q-Learning Inspired Self-Tuning for Energy Efficiency in HPC

System self-tuning is a crucial task to lower the energy consumption of computers. Traditional approaches decrease the processor frequency in idle or synchronisation periods. However, in High-Performance Computing (HPC) this is not sufficient: if the executed code is load balanced, there are neither idle nor synchronisation phases that can be exploited. Therefore, alternative self-tuning approaches are needed, which allow exploiting different compute characteristics of HPC programs. The novel notion of application regions based on function call stacks, introduced in the Horizon 2020 Project READEX, allows us to define such a self-tuning approach. In this paper, we combine these regions with the Q-Learning typical state-action maps, which save information about available states, possible actions to take, and the expected rewards. By exploiting the existing processor power interface, we are able to provide direct feedback to the learning process. This approach allows us to save up to 15% energy, while only adding a minor runtime overhead.Comment: 4 pages short paper, HPCS 2019, AHPC 2019, READEX, HAEC, Horizon2020, H2020 grant agreement number 671657, DFG, CRC 91

    Friedrich Dürrenmatts literarisches Amerikabild

    Get PDF

This study emerged within the scope of the research of national images and was completed to gain a better understanding of Friedrich Dürrenmatt's literary national image of the US. This made it necessary to conduct a survey in which political, social, cultural and economic aspects were discussed, thus also making it possible to gain valuable insight in the relations between Switzerland and the United States. Dürrenmatt's collected works - both literary and essayistic - have been the subject of my research. Recurring themes and references relating to the US have been documented and subsequently discussed in condensed form. Thereby, I came to the conclusion, that Dürrenmatt possessed wide knowledge of the political, social and scientific developments in North America. But since he was a person who was not able to define and express all his opinions publicly, his literary works constitute a minor and probably incomplete part of his point of view. It can be indicated but not pinned down. Therefore it is necessary to conduct further, more comprehensive studies. Those could show us more precisely how the US is presented in the works and thinking of Dürrenmatt, but also of the 20th century Swiss in general. In comparison to authors of former and later generations, developments and possible outlooks could be shown. One may research into the question, what kind of image of foreign nations is really hiding behind the mask of Swiss neutrality.Master i TyskMAHF-TYSTYS35

New 2D thermal model applied to an LHC inner triplet quadrupole magnet

    Get PDF
A newly developed numerical model is presented that enables to compute two-dimensional heat transfer and temperature distributions over the cross-section of superconducting accelerator magnets. The entire thermal path from strand-in-cable to heat sink, including helium channels is considered. Superfluid helium properties are combined with temperature- and field-dependent non-linear solid material properties. Interfacial interactions are also taken into account. The model is applied to the cross-section of an inner triplet quadrupole magnet featuring a new concept for the ground insulation. Beam loss profiles are implemented as main heat source. It is concluded that operational margins can be considerably increased by opening additional thermal paths, improving the cooling conditions

Numerical simulation of dust explosions in pneumatic conveyors

Dust conveyors are used in a wide range of industrial applications. Explosions can be transmitted through dust conveyors to different parts of a processing facility and thus can cause a large amount of damage. In order to study the evolution of dust explosions in such conveyors, a numerical model was developed which combines a front tracking method with a solver for the Euler equations. In this model the effects of the chemical reactions and of the flow turbulence were summarized in the turbulent burning velocity of the dust-air mixture. This approach results in a large reduction of the computational effort and thus allows to study the influence of parameter variations. Here results are presented for corn starch-air mixtures. The numerical model was first calibrated by comparison with one set of experimental data. The model was then tested by comparison with different experimental data and the sensitivity of the model parameters is discussed. Finally calculations were performed for different dust concentrations, flow velocities and tube lengths.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/41915/1/193-9-2-125_90090125.pd

HAEC-SIM: A Simulation Framework for Highly Adaptive Energy-Efficient Computing Platforms

    Get PDF
This work presents a new trace-based parallel discrete event simulation framework designed for predicting the behavior of a novel computing platform running energy-aware parallel applications. Discrete event traces capture the runtime be- havior of parallel applications on existing systems and form the basis for the simulation. The simulation framework pro- cesses the events of the input trace by applying simulation models that modify event properties. Thus, the output are again event traces that describe the predicted application behavior on the simulated target platform. Both input and simulated traces can be visualized and analyzed with estab- lished tools. The modular design of the framework enables the simulation of different aspects such as temporal perfor- mance and energy efficiency by applying distinct simulation models e.g.: (i) A performance model for communication that allows to evaluate the target communication topology and link properties. (ii) An energy model for computations that is based on measurements of current hardware. We showcase the potential of this simulation by simulating the execution of benchmark applications to explore design al- ternatives of highly adaptive and energy-efficient computing applications and platforms

Delivering high performance in an energy-efficient manner is of great importance in conducting research in computational sciences and in daily use of technology. From a computing perspective, a novel concept (the HAEC Box) has been proposed that utilizes innovative ideas of optical and wireless chip-to-chip communication to allow a new level of runtime adaptivity for future computers, which is required to achieve high performance and energy efficiency. HAEC-SIM is an integrated simulation environment designed for the study of the performance and energy costs of the HAEC Box running communication-intensive applications. In this work, we conduct a verification of the implementation of three resilient communication models in HAEC-SIM. The verification involves two NAS Parallel Benchmarks and their simulated execution on a 3D torus system with 16x16x16 nodes with Infiniband links. The simulation results are consistent with those of an independent implementation. Thus, the HAEC-SIM based simulations are accurate in this regard.
