Exactly Marginal Deformations and Global Symmetries
We study the problem of finding exactly marginal deformations of N=1
superconformal field theories in four dimensions. We find that the only way a
marginal chiral operator can become not exactly marginal is for it to combine
with a conserved current multiplet. Additionally, we find that the space of
exactly marginal deformations, also called the "conformal manifold," is the
quotient of the space of marginal couplings by the complexified continuous
global symmetry group. This fact explains why exactly marginal deformations are
ubiquitous in N=1 theories. Our method turns the problem of enumerating exactly
marginal operators into a problem in group theory, and substantially extends
and simplifies the previous analysis by Leigh and Strassler. We also briefly
discuss how to apply our analysis to N=2 theories in three dimensions.Comment: 23 pages, 2 figure
Evidence of Andreev bound states as a hallmark of the FFLO phase in -(BEDT-TTF)Cu(NCS)
Superconductivity is a quantum phenomena arising, in its simplest form, from
pairing of fermions with opposite spin into a state with zero net momentum.
Whether superconductivity can occur in fermionic systems with unequal number of
two species distinguished by spin, atomic hyperfine states, flavor, presents an
important open question in condensed matter, cold atoms, and quantum
chromodynamics, physics. In the former case the imbalance between spin-up and
spin-down electrons forming the Cooper pairs is indyced by the magnetic field.
Nearly fifty years ago Fulde, Ferrell, Larkin and Ovchinnikov (FFLO) proposed
that such imbalanced system can lead to exotic superconductivity in which pairs
acquire finite momentum. The finite pair momentum leads to spatially
inhomogeneous state consisting of of a periodic alternation of "normal" and
"superconducting" regions. Here, we report nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)
measurements providing microscopic evidence for the existence of this new
superconducting state through the observation of spin-polarized quasiparticles
forming so-called Andreev bound states.Comment: 6 pages, 5 fig
On form factors in N=4 sym
In this paper we study the form factors for the half-BPS operators
and the stress tensor supermultiplet
current up to the second order of perturbation theory and for the
Konishi operator at first order of perturbation theory in
SYM theory at weak coupling. For all the objects we observe the
exponentiation of the IR divergences with two anomalous dimensions: the cusp
anomalous dimension and the collinear anomalous dimension. For the IR finite
parts we obtain a similar situation as for the gluon scattering amplitudes,
namely, apart from the case of and the finite part has
some remainder function which we calculate up to the second order. It involves
the generalized Goncharov polylogarithms of several variables. All the answers
are expressed through the integrals related to the dual conformal invariant
ones which might be a signal of integrable structure standing behind the form
factors.Comment: 35 pages, 7 figures, LATEX2
Corner contributions to holographic entanglement entropy
The entanglement entropy of three-dimensional conformal field theories
contains a universal contribution coming from corners in the entangling
surface. We study these contributions in a holographic framework and, in
particular, we consider the effects of higher curvature interactions in the
bulk gravity theory. We find that for all of our holographic models, the corner
contribution is only modified by an overall factor but the functional
dependence on the opening angle is not modified by the new gravitational
interactions. We also compare the dependence of the corner term on the new
gravitational couplings to that for a number of other physical quantities, and
we show that the ratio of the corner contribution over the central charge
appearing in the two-point function of the stress tensor is a universal
function for all of the holographic theories studied here. Comparing this
holographic result to the analogous functions for free CFT's, we find fairly
good agreement across the full range of the opening angle. However, there is a
precise match in the limit where the entangling surface becomes smooth, i.e.,
the angle approaches , and we conjecture the corresponding ratio is a
universal constant for all three-dimensional conformal field theories. In this
paper, we expand on the holographic calculations in our previous letter
arXiv:1505.04804, where this conjecture was first introduced.Comment: 62 pages, 6 figures, 1 table; v2: minor modifications to match

Localization of N=4 Superconformal Field Theory on S^1 x S^3 and Index
We provide the geometrical meaning of the superconformal index.
With this interpretation, the superconformal index can be realized
as the partition function on a Scherk-Schwarz deformed background. We apply the
localization method in TQFT to compute the deformed partition function since
the deformed action can be written as a -exact form. The
critical points of the deformed action turn out to be the space of flat
connections which are, in fact, zero modes of the gauge field. The one-loop
evaluation over the space of flat connections reduces to the matrix integral by
which the superconformal index is expressed.Comment: 42+1 pages, 2 figures, JHEP style: v1.2.3 minor corrections, v4 major

Massive amplitudes on the Coulomb branch of N=4 SYM
We initiate a systematic study of amplitudes with massive external particles
on the Coulomb-branch of N=4 super Yang Mills theory: 1) We propose that
(multi-)soft-scalar limits of massless amplitudes at the origin of moduli space
can be used to determine Coulomb-branch amplitudes to leading order in the
mass. This is demonstrated in numerous examples. 2) We find compact explicit
expressions for several towers of tree-level amplitudes, including scattering
of two massive W-bosons with any number of positive helicity gluons, valid for
all values of the mass. 3) We present the general structure of superamplitudes
on the Coulomb branch. For example, the n-point "MHV-band" superamplitude is
proportional to a Grassmann polynomial of mixed degree 4 to 12, which is
uniquely determined by supersymmetry. We find explicit tree-level
superamplitudes for this MHV band and for other simple sectors of the theory.
4) Dual conformal generators are constructed, and we explore the dual conformal
properties of the simplest massive amplitudes. Our compact expressions for
amplitudes and superamplitudes should be of both theoretical and
phenomenological interest; in particular the tree-level results carry over to
truncations of the theory with less supersymmetry.Comment: 29 pages, 1 figur
Fermionic Coset, Critical Level W^(2)_4-Algebra and Higher Spins
The fermionic coset is a limit of the pure spinor formulation of the AdS5xS5
sigma model as well as a limit of a nonlinear topological A-model, introduced
by Berkovits. We study the latter, especially its symmetries, and map them to
higher spin algebras.
We show the following. The linear A-model possesses affine
\AKMSA{pgl}{4}{4}_0 symmetry at critical level and its \AKMSA{psl}{4}{4}_0
current-current perturbation is the nonlinear model. We find that the
perturbation preserves -algebra symmetry at critical
level. There is a topological algebra associated to \AKMSA{pgl}{4}{4}_0 with
the properties that the perturbation is BRST-exact. Further, the
BRST-cohomology contains world-sheet supersymmetric symplectic fermions and the
non-trivial generators of the -algebra. The Zhu functor
maps the linear model to a higher spin theory. We analyze its
\SLSA{psl}{4}{4} action and find finite dimensional short multiplets.Comment: 25 page
The contribution of virtual enterprises to competence-based learning: an assessment from the students’ perspective: Case study
The use of virtual enterprises has evolved from secondary, vocational and professional education to the university level, becoming in recent times a relevant experiential e-learning tool based on the simulation of the functioning of a company. The purpose of this study is to analyze the perspective of students taking part in virtual enterprises about their acquisition of generic and specific managerial skills fostered by this e-learning methodology. We analyzed data of 76 students from Faculties of Business and Economics, who had participated during the academic year 2014-2015 in a virtual company during the development of their degrees at two different Italian universities, University of Bologna and Parma. Our results show that the most valued generic skills were related to the capacity of learning and adaptation, problem solving and teamwork, whilst the least valued ones were related to the skills of communication and interaction with people of other countries and cultures. In the case of specific managerial skills, the most valued ones were about understanding managerial concepts and the role and functions of economic agents, and the least valued were skills related to providing managerial advice, dealing with risks and analyzing financial statements. Besides, the analyses conducted to determine the existence of a learning profile in the students reveal that the skills acquired were quite similar, not being affected by the students’ gender or the economic activity developed by the virtual enterprise. This study makes a contribution in terms of the effectiveness of virtual enterprises for competence-based learning
