    Get PDF
The tribal communities (indigenous groups) of Tripura have their respective arts and cultures or folklores or folktales which are initially oral and passed down to the younger generations by the senior members from generation to generation. Due to the modernization and influx of migrated people from the neighboring country to Tripura, created threats among the tribal communities for maintaining their unique identity and traditional cultures. Their enriched culture is getting mix-up and they are wondering to save their culture for the next generation. The present study discusses the issues and challenges faced by tribal communities to maintain their enriched arts and culture by keeping in view the present condition of Tripura. To provide a platform where the tribal communities can preserve their arts and cultures or folklores, one model is proposed namely Indigenous Cultural Heritage of Tripura , which might preserve their unique traditional arts and cultures or folktales

The present study has been undertaken with a view to know the scenario of N-LIST Programme implementation and status of the ICT and Internet literacy skills amongst the College Library Users who have been mainly drawn from the ten selected college libraries of Barak Valley of South Assam to access E- Resources available under N-LIST Resources. The present work was carried out during January to May 2012. For that purpose, survey method was adopted, which comprises of administration of questionnaire, observation of the participants, and interview of some of the participants for knowing the opinion of the respondents in respect of usage of e-resources available under N-LIST Programme/ services for their academic and research activities. The self designed questionnaire comprising of 19 questions has been distributed amongst the randomly selected 200 samples, out of which 153 respondents have responded. The present investigation is delimited to the randomly selected population of College Library Users who are regularly visiting their respective college library and using the Internet for accessing to the e-resources / web resources available under the N-LIST Programme of INFLIBNET. On the basis of filled up questionnaire received from the respondents, data has been analyzed and tabulated using SPSS Software. For data analysis percentage technique has been adopted. Due to paucity of space important findings have been enumerated in brief. The paper highlights the important survey findings in respect of demographic profiles of college library users, their library visit pattern, e-resources use pattern and expectations of college library users from the N-LIST Programme through which the scholarly contents are made available to the library users. Besides this, some suggestions and recommendations to solve the impediments for non-implementation of N-LIST Programme and under utilization of e-resources have also been enumerated in brief

A Managerial Decision Support System for Client/Server Computer Network Configuration: A Performance and Resource Utilization Approach

    Get PDF
Network design and configuration is frequently studied from a technical perspective alone. However, there are substantial managerial decisions involved in long-term network development and maintenance, which attempts to balance the conflicting demands of cost minimization and faster network performance. Additionally, different network performance measures lead to different design and cost considerations. This research develop a DSS model to aid managers in designing and planning network configurations to maximize resource utilization and minimize network access and application delay times

Information Seeking Behaviour of Scientific Community at Assam, India: A Proposed Model for E-Environment

    Get PDF
The present study has been undertaken to know the information seeking pattern of the scientific community who belong to different universities under the study. In this study, it has been tried to find out the satisfaction after utilization of print or digital information resources available in the digital environment with a view to understand the situation of the existing library system. After evaluation and observation of the findings of the study critically, it leads to create confusion regarding the nature of information seeking pattern by the scientific community. It is found that the existing library information system is seemed to be less functional. The experience gathered from personal visit, observation and discussion with scientific community by the researcher also has realized that there is a big gap or problem in accessing information from university library system. So, there is an urgent need to develop a model which can fulfill the requirement of scientific community. Thus, one new model of information seeking behaviour is proposed namely “Information Seeking Model for Scientific Community at Assam” (ISMSCA) which might solve the problem of scientific community, if implemented

The Impact of Persuasive Response Sequence and Consistency when IT Service Providers Address Auditor-Identified Issues in SOC2 Reports

    Get PDF
We examine how an IT service provider’s persuasive communication related to SOC2 report findings influences management’s (i.e., user-entities’) perceptions of the outsourced services. Within SOC2 reports, service providers can attempt to influence management’s impressions of auditor-identified issues and, due to the report’s limited audience, also follow-up with management about these issues. Using dual-process theories of persuasion, we predict the type of persuasion used by a service provider in a SOC2 report (contend or concede), and its consistency with follow-up persuasive appeals (contend or concede), will influence management’s perceptions of the services provided. In an experiment, only when the service provider first contends the auditor’s findings does a follow-up concession (rather than contention) result in more favorable perceptions. Persuasion tactics also influence management’s processing of risk factors, which impact their trust in the service. Thus, IT service providers’ initial and follow-up persuasive communications influence management’s assessment of SOC2 auditor-identified issues

Author Experiences with the IS Journal Review Process

    Get PDF
Research publication in peer-reviewed journals is an important avenue for knowledge dissemination. However, information on journal review process metrics are often not available to prospective authors, which may preclude effective targeting of their research work to appropriate outlets. We study these metrics for information systems (IS) researchers through a survey of actual author experiences of the IS journal review process. Our results provide a knowledge base of the length and quality of the review process in various journals; responsiveness of the journal office and publication delay; and correlations of metrics with published studies of journal rankings. The data should enable authors to make effective submission decisions, as well as help to benchmark journal review processes among competing journals

Low height-for-age among Limbu and Mech children and adolescents from two districts of West Bengal, India

Background: Low height-for-age (stunting) is a state of chronic undernutrition in children and adolescents. Studies reported that India has very high prevalence of stunting in children, particularly from rural and tribal communities. Objective of the present study was to record prevalence of stunting in 6 to 18 year-old boys and girls from two tribal communities (Limbu and Mech) in Darjeeling and Alipurduar districts of West Bengal, India. The study also aimed to compare height-for-age of the participants with standard growth reference curves. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the sample comprises 1523 individuals of both sexes from Limbu (377 boys, 379 girls) and Mech (365 boys, 402 girls) communities. Height data was normalized using LMS. Results: Overall frequency of stunting among 6 to 18 year-old boys (33%) and girls (34.7%) was remarkably high. Prevalence of stunting was higher in Limbu boys (43.5%) and girls (44.6%) than their age-peers from Mech community (boys 22.2%, girls 25.4%). Height data after normalization, shows that all centile curves of height of Limbu and Mech boys and girls are consistently below the standard height-for-age reference curves of the WHO. Limbu and Mech children appear to be taller with respect to their median (50th percentile) height when compared with the median height of children in the dataset of Indian Council of Medical Research. Conclusion: High frequency stunting in Mech and limbu children was recorded and situation of girls was worse. There was a tendency of decline in prevalence of stunting with advancement of age among children

Using P2P Sharing Activity To Improve Business Decision Making: Proof Of Concept For Estimating Product Life-Cycle

    Get PDF
Estimating the life-cycle or duration of a product can be an important input into a firm’s decision-making related to production and marketing. In the music industry, online Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks have attracted millions of potential music consumers and have had substantial impact on the music business. In this paper, we investigate the possible use of P2P information in estimating product “shelf-life,” in particular the duration of a music album on the Billboard 100 chart. We identify and track the music albums that appear on the Top 100 of the Billboard Charts, spanning a period of six months. We show that P2P sharing activity can be used to help predict the subsequent market performance of a music album
