Algae Culture Conditions and Process Parameters for Phycoremediation and Biomaterials Production
Abstract
Climate change and increasing world population call for careful utilization of water and energy sources. Microalgae to treat wastewater in a coupled process to produce biofuels and other value-added products for human consumption are promising solutions. An analysis of culture parameters and cultivation processes is presented as essential to achieve economical sustainability from the algae. Results of the activity of microalgal strains in detoxification of wastewater are compared and discussed, particularly in remediation of nitrogen and phosphorous compounds, heavy metal, pharmaceuticals and personal care products. Phycoremediation mechanisms and culture conditions to obtain optimal microalgal growth are discussed. Finally, valuable products that can be produced by microalgae and ecological problems of untreated wastewater are presented

La formación docente para la ciudadanía en contextos de neoliberalismo: propuestas desde las narrativas
Neoliberal policies expanded globally affect the exercise of rights and full citizenship. The Research Project of which this work is part, seeks to understand the ways in which the students of the initial education teachers live the political, situations that they recover from their school biography and their life stories, in order to make them visible and analyze the contexts of production, from the awareness and reflexivity, to recognize themselves as active subjects in the construction of their own subjectivity and in the construction of the world they inhabit, in their social, economic, political and cultural dimensions, that is, to position themselves as active subjects of politics. By relating our own experience, through the narrative, it is possible to visualize the constitution of our own subjectivity and to become aware of the worlds that inhabit us, distinguishing different techniques of domination. Experiences, these, indispensable to make pedagogical proposals in which, from the first months of life, boys and girls are real participants in socialization processes that are identified as emancipatory.Las políticas neoliberales expandidas a nivel global afectan el ejercicio de los derechos y de una ciudadanía plena. El Proyecto de Investigación del que forma parte este trabajo, busca comprender los modos en que las estudiantes del profesorado de educación inicial viven lo político, situaciones que recuperan desde su biografía escolar y sus historias de vida, a fin de visibilizarlas y analizar los contextos de producción, para desde la concienciación y reflexividad, reconocerse como sujetos activos en la construcción de su propia subjetividad y en la construcción del mundo que habitan, en sus dimensiones sociales, económicas, políticas y culturales, es decir posicionarse como sujetos activos de la política. Al relatar la propia experiencia, a través de la narrativa, es posible visibilizar la constitución de la propia subjetividad y tomar consciencia de los mundos que nos habitan, distinguiendo diferentes técnicas de dominación. Experiencias, éstas, indispensables para realizar propuestas pedagógicas en las que desde los primeros meses de vida los niños y las niñas sean partícipes reales de procesos de socialización identificados como emancipatorios
Salas de aula de EJA : espaços de ludicidade, brincadeira e aprendizagem
O presente trabalho apresenta os resultados obtidos em pesquisa desenvolvida para a conclusão do Curso em Licenciatura de Pedagogia EaD da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. O tema da pesquisa foi sobre a ludicidade nas salas de aula da Educação de Jovens e Adultos (EJA), tendo a seguinte questão: qual a importância de recursos e/ou atividades lúdicas nas salas de aula da EJA? Desse modo, delineei como objetivo geral investigar a importância de recursos e/ou atividades lúdicas nas salas de aula da EJA. Como objetivos específicos, temos: propor uma atividade lúdica para uma turma de EJA; relacionar a atividade lúdica com os processos de aprendizagem dos alunos; verificar quais os efeitos que a referida atividade proporcionou; e contribuir com a pesquisa sobre a ludicidade nas salas de aula da EJA. A pesquisa teve abordagem qualitativa. Quanto à natureza, foi considerada aplicada, e quanto ao procedimento, configurou-se em pesquisa-ação. O contexto foi uma sala de aula de EJA de uma escola pública pertencente à Rede Municipal de Viamão, região metropolitana de Porto Alegre. Os sujeitos da pesquisa foram alunos de uma turma de EJA. A proposta de ação educativa consistiu em confeccionar, de forma colaborativa, um tabuleiro de jogo de Damas utilizando material alternativo. Os resultados dessa ação demonstraram os benefícios da ludicidade como ferramenta pedagógica para esses alunos, proporcionando momentos de exteriorização de sua afetividade, de interação recíproca e compartilhamento de conhecimentos, evidenciando a importância de recursos e atividades lúdicas para o processo de ensino-aprendizagem nessa modalidade de educação

Human hair follicles operate an internal Cori cycle and modulate their growth via glycogen phosphorylase
AbstractHair follicles (HFs) are unique, multi-compartment, mini-organs that cycle through phases of active hair growth and pigmentation (anagen), apoptosis-driven regression (catagen) and relative quiescence (telogen). Anagen HFs have high demands for energy and biosynthesis precursors mainly fulfilled by aerobic glycolysis. Histochemistry reports the outer root sheath (ORS) contains high levels of glycogen. To investigate a functional role for glycogen in the HF we quantified glycogen by Periodic-Acid Schiff (PAS) histomorphometry and colorimetric quantitative assay showing ORS of anagen VI HFs contained high levels of glycogen that decreased in catagen. qPCR and immunofluorescence microscopy showed the ORS expressed all enzymes for glycogen synthesis and metabolism. Using human ORS keratinocytes (ORS-KC) and ex vivo human HF organ culture we showed active glycogen metabolism by nutrient starvation and use of a specific glycogen phosphorylase (PYGL) inhibitor. Glycogen in ORS-KC was significantly increased by incubation with lactate demonstrating a functional Cori cycle. Inhibition of PYGL significantly stimulated the ex vivo growth of HFs and delayed onset of catagen. This study defines translationally relevant and therapeutically targetable new features of HF metabolism showing that human scalp HFs operate an internal Cori cycle, synthesize glycogen in the presence of lactate and modulate their growth via PYGL activity

La presente comunicación aborda el análisis de situaciones que muchos de los niños y niñas que concurren a diversas instituciones del sistema educativo de nuestro país deben vivir y que de diversas maneras podrían estar comprometiendo su identidad de género, debido a una gran cantidad de factores que hacen de nuestra educación pública un ámbito de homogeneización y de rutinización que va reproduciendo prácticas que nada tiene que ver con las demandas actuales de una sociedad pluralista y democrática.

Decoupling limits of N=4 super Yang-Mills on R x S^3
We find new decoupling limits of N=4 super Yang-Mills (SYM) on R x S^3 with
gauge group SU(N). These decoupling limits lead to decoupled theories that are
much simpler than the full N=4 SYM but still contain many of its interesting
features. The decoupling limits correspond to being in a near-critical region,
near a point with zero temperature and critical chemical potentials. The new
decoupling limits are found by generalizing the limits of hep-th/0605234 to
include not only the chemical potentials for the SU(4) R-symmetry of N=4 SYM
but also the chemical potentials corresponding to the SO(4) symmetry. In the
decoupled theories it is possible to take a strong coupling limit in a
controllable manner since the full effective Hamiltonian is known. For planar
N=4 SYM on R x S^3 all the decoupled theories correspond to fully integrable
spin chains. We study the thermodynamics of the decoupled theories and find the
Hagedorn temperature for small and large values of the effective coupling. We
find an alternative formulation of the decoupling limits in the microcanonical
ensemble. This leads to a characterization of certain regimes of weakly coupled
N=4 SYM in which there are string-like states. Finally, we find a similar
decoupling limit for pure Yang-Mills theory, which for the planar limit leads
