Energy balance measurements over a banana orchard in the Semiarid region in the Northeast of Brazil
The objective of this work was to evaluate the reliability of eddy covariance measurements, analyzing the energy balance components, evapotranspiration and energy balance closure in dry and wet growing seasons, in a banana orchard. The experiment was carried out at a farm located within the irrigation district of Quixeré, in the Lower Jaguaribe basin, in Cearå state, Brazil. An eddy covariance system was used to measure the turbulent flux. An automatic weather station was installed in a grass field to obtain the reference evapotranspiration (ET0) from the combined FAO-Penman-Monteith method. Wind speed and vapor pressure deficit are the most important variables on the evaporative process in both growing seasons. In the dry season, the heat fluxes have a similar order of magnitude, and during the wet season the latent heat flux is the largest. The eddy covariance system had acceptable reliability in measuring heat flux, with actual evapotranspiration results comparing well with those obtained by using the water balance method. The energy balance closure had good results for the study area, with mean values of 0.93 and 0.86 for the dry and wet growing seasons respectively
Location-Aware Quality of Service Measurements for Service-Level Agreements
We add specifications of location-aware measurements to performance models in a compositional fashion, promoting precision in performance measurement design. Using immediate actions to send control signals between measurement components we are able to obtain more accurate measurements from our stochastic models without disturbing their structure. A software tool processes both the model and the measurement specifications to give response time distributions and quantiles, an essential calculation in determining satisfaction of service-level agreements (SLAs)
Detecting the Dependent Evolution of Biosequences
A probabilistic graphical model is developed in order to detect the dependent evolution between different sites in biological sequences. Given a multiple sequence alignment for each molecule of interest and a phylogenetic tree, the model can predict potential interactions within or between nucleic acids and proteins. Initial validation of the model is carried out using tRNA sequence data. The model is able to accurately identify the secondary structure of tRNA as well as several known tertiary interactions
Multiethnic meta-analysis identifies ancestry-specific and cross-ancestry loci for pulmonary function
Nearly 100 loci have been identified for pulmonary function, almost exclusively in studies of European ancestry populations. We extend previous research by meta-analyzing genome-wide association studies of 1000 Genomes imputed variants in relation to pulmonary function in a multiethnic population of 90,715 individuals of European (N = 60,552), African (N = 8429), Asian (N = 9959), and Hispanic/Latino (N = 11,775) ethnicities. We identify over 50 additional loci at genome-wide significance in ancestry-specific or multiethnic meta-analyses. Using recent fine-mapping methods incorporating functional annotation, gene expression, and differences in linkage disequilibrium between ethnicities, we further shed light on potential causal variants and genes at known and newly identified loci. Several of the novel genes encode proteins with predicted or established drug targets, including KCNK2 and CDK12. Our study highlights the utility of multiethnic and integrative genomics approaches to extend existing knowledge of the genetics of l
Body appreciation around the world: Measurement invariance of the Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2) across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age.
The Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2) is a widely used measure of a core facet of the positive body image construct. However, extant research concerning measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across a large number of nations remains limited. Here, we utilised the Body Image in Nature (BINS) dataset - with data collected between 2020 and 2022 - to assess measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age groups. Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis indicated that full scalar invariance was upheld across all nations, languages, gender identities, and age groups, suggesting that the unidimensional BAS-2 model has widespread applicability. There were large differences across nations and languages in latent body appreciation, while differences across gender identities and age groups were negligible-to-small. Additionally, greater body appreciation was significantly associated with higher life satisfaction, being single (versus being married or in a committed relationship), and greater rurality (versus urbanicity). Across a subset of nations where nation-level data were available, greater body appreciation was also significantly associated with greater cultural distance from the United States and greater relative income inequality. These findings suggest that the BAS-2 likely captures a near-universal conceptualisation of the body appreciation construct, which should facilitate further cross-cultural research. Polymorphism: an evaluation of the potential risk to the quality of drug products from the FarmĂĄcia Popular Rede PrĂłpria
Polymorphism in solids is a common phenomenon in drugs, which can lead to compromised quality due to changes in their physicochemical properties, particularly solubility, and, therefore, reduce bioavailability. Herein, a bibliographic survey was performed based on key issues and studies related to polymorphism in active pharmaceutical ingredient (APIs) present in medications from the Farmácia Popular Rede Própria. Polymorphism must be controlled to prevent possible ineffective therapy and/or improper dosage. Few mandatory tests for the identification and control of polymorphism in medications are currently available, which can result in serious public health concerns
Serial Disk-based Analysis of Large Stochastic Models
The paper presents a survey of out-of-core methods available for the analysis of large Markov chains on single workstations. First, we discuss the main sparse matrix storage schemes and review iterative methods for the solution of systems of linear equations typically used in disk-based methods. Next, various out-of-core approaches for the steady state solution of CTMCs are described. In this context, serial out-ofcore algorithms are outlined and analysed with the help of their implementations. A comparison of time..

The MoDeST Tool Environment (MOTOR) is a tool to facilitate the transformation, analysis and validation of modest models. modest is a modelling language to describe stochastic real-time systems. MOTOR implements the formal semantics of modest and is designed to transform and abstract modest specifications such that analysis can be carried out by third-party tools. For the time being, a fragment of MoDeST can be model-checked using CADP. The main analytical workhorse behind motor is discrete-event simulation, which is provided by the Möbius performance evaluation environment. We are experimenting with prototypical connections to the real-time model checker Uppaal.\u
