Light scalar at LHC: the Higgs or the dilaton?

It is likely that the LHC will observe a color- and charge-neutral scalar whose decays are consistent with those of the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson. The Higgs interpretation of such a discovery is not the only possibility. For example, electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB) could be triggered by a spontaneously broken, nearly conformal sector. The spectrum of states at the electroweak scale would then contain a narrow scalar resonance, the pseudo-Goldstone boson of conformal symmetry breaking, with Higgs-like properties. If the conformal sector is strongly coupled, this pseudo-dilaton may be the only new state accessible at high energy colliders. We discuss the prospects for distinguishing this mode from a minimal Higgs boson at the LHC and ILC. The main discriminants between the two scenarios are (1) cubic self-interactions and (2) a potential enhancement of couplings to massless SM gauge bosons. A particularly interesting situation arises when the scale f of conformal symmetry breaking is approximately the electroweak scale v~246 GeV. Although in this case the LHC may not be able to tell apart a pseudo-dilaton from the Higgs boson, the self-interactions differ in a way that depends only on the scaling dimension of certain operators in the conformal sector. This opens the possibility of using dilaton pair production at future colliders as a probe of EWSB induced by nearly conformal new physics.Comment: 7 pages, LaTe

Analgésicos en el manejo del dolor

We have performed an inquiry in 692 drug stores ofLima in order to know the disposal of the differents analgesics utilized in pain treatment. We found that the 12% are drugs for the visceral pain treatment and 88% are drugs for soma tic pain treatment.Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs constitute the 68 % of total analgesics disposal while opiods are only the 5% of the total, and morphine only the 0,1% of all pharmacologycal analgesic groups.Se realiza una encuesta en 692 farmacias y boticas de Lima Metropolitana para conocer la venta de los fármacos utilizados en el tratamiento de las diferentes variedades de dolor. Encontramos que el 12% corresponden a los fármacos utilizados para tratar el dolor visceral y el 88% a los fármacos para tratar el dolor somático. La valorización por avance de obra y su relación con la liquidez de F.Q. Ingenieros S.A.C., Los Olivos, 2017

RESUMEN El presente trabajo de investigación tiene como finalidad u objetivo determinar la relación que existe entre la valorización por avance de obra y la liquidez de F.Q. Ingenieros S.A.C., Los Olivos, 2017. La metodología utilizada es aplicada, porque está encaminada a resolver problemas prácticos de la empresa, así como no experimental porque no vamos a manipular ninguna de las variables, puesto que se va observar dentro de su contexto natural en un periodo determinado. Se aplicó una encuesta para entender la problemática de la empresa respecto a la valorización por avance de obra y el grado de relación con la liquidez de la empresa, se analizó los resultados obtenidos de la encuesta mediante la aplicación del programa estadístico SPSS 21, para así determinar la relación existente entre las dos variables. Además, se analizó los estados financieros de los dos periodos, así como el cálculo de las ratios de liquidez para ver la variación y relación de las dos variables. Del mismo modo, se realizó un cuadro comparativo entre la valorización y la liquidez donde demostramos la relación directa que existe. Se concluyó demostrando la relación directamente proporcional que existe entre la valorización por avance de obra y la liquidez. Una marca de agua es un mensaje incrustado en la imagen mediante alguna técnica, la cual debe ser imperceptible, resistente a ataques y segura.En esta memoria se presenta un resumen de las marcas de agua en imágenes digitales, se documentan tres técnicas de marca de agua y se investigan los parámetros de incrustacion propios de cada técnica. Utilizando esta información, se implementa una biblioteca de marcas de agua en imágenes digitales en el lenguaje de programación C++ que incluye las técnicas de marca de agua Bit Menos Signi cativo, Basada en la Correlaci on y Transformada Discreta del Coseno. A watermark is a message embedded in an image using a watermarking technique and must be imperceptible, resistant to attacks and secure. In this memoria, a summary of watermarking in digital images is presented. Three watermarking techniques are documented and the embedding parameters of each technique are investigated. Using this information, a watermarking software library for digital images is implemented in the C++ programming language that includes the watermarking techniques Least signi cant bit, Correlation-based watermarking and DCT transformation-based. Furthermore, this software library is utilised for experimenting to obtain the embedding parameter values for each technique. Optimal parameters are then obtained that maintain a balance between imperceptibility and robustness

Youtube analysis research as a tool for documentary in higher education students

La investigación analiza hasta qué punto YouTube puede ser utilizado como herramienta de investigación. Para el análisis se siguió el diseño propuesto por en “Journal of Child Neurology” [14]. Para ello se seleccionaron treinta videos sobre tres temas diferentes, los cuales son analizados por su eficacia en cuanto a conceptos técnicos y por su confiabilidad respecto a la información que proporcionan; posteriormente se seleccionan dos videos, el de mayor y menor puntaje, para su aplicación aun grupo experimental, comparando y contrastando resultados con un grupo de control. El análisis nos muestra que los videos con mayor puntaje obtuvieron mejores calificaciones. Además, se determina que YouTube puede ser utilizado como una herramienta para la investigación documental, sin embargo, las correctas prácticas de búsqueda, selección y confiabilidad siguen siendo la clave para aprovechar al máximo esta plataforma. Además, se propone una rúbrica para evaluar videos con fines de uso de investigación documental.The research analyzes the extent to which YouTube can be used as a research tool. Transcranial focal electrical stimulation via concentric ring electrodes in freely moving cats: Antiepileptogenic and postictal effects

Transcranial focal electrical stimulation (TFS) via tripolar concentric ring electrodes (TCRE), tripolar TFS, is proposed to treat pharmacoresistant epilepsy. We determined the effect of tripolar TFS on electrical amygdaloid kindling (AK) in freely moving cats. Fifteen cats were bilaterally implanted with electrodes in the amygdala (AM) and prefrontal cortex and assigned to three groups: the control group, which only received AK; the tripolar TFS before AK group, in which TCREs were placed over the vertex and tripolar TFS (300 Hz, 200 μs biphasic equal charge, square pulses) was delivered for 40 min just prior to AK; and the tripolar TFS after AK group, in which the TCREs were placed over the temporal bone ipsilateral to the kindled AM, while tripolar TFS was administered for 2 min just after AK onset for 40 days, and, thereafter, only AK was applied. AK was applied daily until all animals reached kindling stage VI. A three concentric spheres finite element cat head model was developed to analyze the electric fields caused by tripolar TFS. Tripolar TFS after AK inhibited kindling development. Animals with tripolar TFS after AK remained at the focal seizure stages for 20 days after tripolar TFS cessation and required 80.0 ± 15.42 AK stimulations to reach stage VI, significantly higher than TFS before AK, and control (P \u3c .001). Tripolar TFS before AK did not show signs of protection against epileptogenesis. The finite modeling of tripolar TFS showed that the electric field is \u3e0.3 mV/mm at depths less than approximately 12.6 mm in the cat brain, which should be strong enough to alter brain activity. In conclusion, tripolar TFS applied via a TCRE over the ipsilateral temporal area significantly delayed AK. This taken together with other reports of tripolar TFS aborting seizures in acute seizure models suggests that tripolar TFS is a promising new modality that should be considered for further testing
