    Get PDF

The Argentina Industrial Union (UIA) is a projection observable to approach the corporate behavior of the bourgeoisie as it constitutes one of the most representative and influential associations thereof in this country. We approach the problem from the reconstruction of the political leadership of the company and the flagship companies of every leader. Through various specialized sources classify them according to their place in the rankings for sales, profits, capital and position in the international market. We conclude that the UIA in the analyzed period (1966-1974) consisted in a small group of large capital and a major number of small capitals nationwide, unified by their marginalization in world market.Fil: Baudino, Verónica. Difficult Beginning ? The Early Years of the Royal Academy of Arts in London

    Get PDF
International audienceThe Royal Academy of Arts was founded in London on December 10th 1768, after a long and arduous process of academic establishment. Its early days were difficult and uncertain: the legitimacy and rule of royal academicians was questioned by artists who had been excluded from the newly-created institution, which instead of figuring as a collaborative venture of the artistic community, had clearly been established by the former Directors of the Society of Artists of Great Britain - to the detriment of their former fellow artists. Since the Royal Academy built upon the system of annual public art exhibitions, which had become a defining feature of London cultural life since 1760, it had to advertise its exhibitions alongside those organised by other artists' societies. As there exist very few official sources on the rift that was caused in the artistic community by the foundation of the Royal Academy, these advertisements are worth studying. They not only allow us to trace the continuing struggle between Royal Academicians and their opponents, they also brought the aims of artists from both sides in the public sphere. Press advertisements show how royal academicians managed to establish their rule and authority by emphasising the royal nature and national purpose of the Royal Academy, and by presenting it as the only liberal academic body - thus drawing upon a centuries-old tradition.

Power in Meaning: Changing Indigenous Museum Collection Narratives

New Museum Theory is successful not only in creating space for Native voice(s) at the Spencer Museum of Art through the exhibition, Passages: Persistent Visions of a Native Place, but also in beginning a new chapter for the ethnographic collection at the University of Kansas. In this thesis, I discover the success of the exhibition and the repurposing of the collection through critical analysis of how the collection has been and is now interpreted and managed. This discovery involves conducting a summative evaluation of the exhibit, and exploring the ways in which New Museum Theory affects the collection. The summative evaluation includes an analysis of visitor surveys, interviews with Native American artists, and observations of programming. The summative evaluation and my analysis reveals that New Museum Theory is successful in creating space for Native voice(s) in the museum, as well as changing the narrative of the collection. Broader conclusions can be drawn from these results for the positive effect New Museum Theory may have on the future of indigenous collections across the United States

Subduction consequences along the Andean margin : thermal and topographic signature of an ancient ridge subduction in the Marañón Basin of Perú

    Get PDF
All along the eastern border of the Andes lie foreland basins that are among the most prolific hydrocarbon provinces of the world. Their Cenozoic evolution was controlled by the Andean uplift and its consequences on deformation and sedimentation. In turn, the Andean uplift results from the interplay between the subducting Nazca oceanic plate and the South American continental plate. Although the process exists all along the margin, the subducting plate is not regular including bathymetric anomalies and segments that result in different response in the deformation and active volcanism of the overriding plate. In the Marañón Basin of Peru, evidences allow documenting the consequences of a topographic anomaly subduction on the thermal regime and deformation of the Andean foreland during the Neogene. In this basin, a maturity anomaly is difficult to explain by considering only the present day thermal regime. However, it spatially coincides with the trace of a lost subducting ridge, the Inca Plateau. Other features like differential uplift and erosion can be related to the same event in the area. We review the consequences of oceanic ridge subduction along the Andean margin. Their effects on the deformation and volcanism of the forearc and arc regions have been extensively described. Their influence on the present day foreland topography is testified by the existence of giant alluvial fans and displaced terraces. Their effect on magmatism and ore deposits formation has also been demonstrated. The example illustrated here shows that their influence on thermal regime, deformation, erosion and ultimately on petroleum systems must also be taken into account in the search for hydrocarbons in subduction related basins
