    A Sensor Network System for Monitoring Short-Term Construction Work Zones

    Safety hazards encountered near construction work zones are high, both in number and in the kind. There is a need to monitor traffic in such construction zones in order to improve driver and vehicle safetyIn the past traffic monitoring systems were built with high cost equipment such as inductive plates, video cameras etc. These solutions are too cost{prohibitive and invasive to be used in the large. Wireless sensor networks provide an opportunity space that can be used to address this problem. This thesis specifically targets temporary or short-term construction work zones. We present the design and implementation of a sensor network system targeted at monitoring the flow of traffic through these temporary construction work zones. As opposed to long-term work zones which are common on highways, short-term or temporary work zones remain active for a few hours or a few days at most. As such, instrumenting temporary work zones with monitoring equipment similar to those used in long-term work zones is not practical. Yet, these temporary work zones present an important problem in terms of crashes occurring in and around them.     Nuclear Rupture in Progeria Expressing Cells

    Cells regularly take on various types of force in the body. They have structures that are able to mediate, transfer and respond to the forces. A mutation in force regulating proteins such as lamin in the nucleus or the KASH domain which connects the nucleus to the cytoskeleton of the cell can cause catastrophic events to occur. The aims of this study were to better understand the response of the nucleus when structural proteins are mutated or are not present while under force. Progeria, a rare disease where an additional farnesyl group is attached to lamin was used in this study. Different types of forces were used to represent similar conditions in the body. Confinement of endothelial cell width showed an increase of surface defects. When restricting proteins such as actin was removed the nucleus appeared to rupture. This was shown to occur at a higher rate in the progeria groups. Endothelial cells under shear force showed high amount of nuclear rupture in progeria expressing group. prolonged exposure showed more rupture which eventually cased cell death and cells to come off the surface. Progeria expressing smooth muscle cells under cyclic stretch also showed similar results as endothelial cells. The amount and rate of deformation of the nucleus when the cytoskeleton is connected and not was looked at. When the connected the rate of deformation was higher. The high rate of nuclear defects and rupture while under force in progeria expressing cells shows that the nuclei have different structural properties and are weaker. It’s also been shown that the LINC complex contributes to nuclear deformation when stretching

    ISOLATION AND CHARACTERISATION OF TURNERA APHRODISIACA

    India is maybe one of the biggest makers of restorative spices and is properly thought to be the "Professional flowerbed of the world". Enormous quantities of restorative spices have been in need for millennia, in some structure, under the native frameworks of medication. Detachment and depiction of Turnera aphrodisiaca leaf includes the concentrate was subjected to HPTLC for combination portrayal and separation. HPTLC stands for high-level tender loving care, and it is used to separate and identify pieces. The differentiation between each component's adsorption coefficients determines how each component is divided, and identifiable evidence rests on the correlation of Rf values. All the experiments' solvents came from MERCK and were of the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) quality. The Exact XB 12A digital balance was used to take precise measurements. Using the HPTLC method, the ethanolic extract of Turnera aphrodisiaca leaf was extracted and characterized. The ethanol extract was placed as discrete bands onto silica gel 60 F254 HPTLC plates that were 10x10 cm in size together with rutin and quercetin standards.Utilizing the HPTLC technique, Turnera aphrodisiaca leaf extract was isolated and characterized.     Hepatoprotective activity of ethanolic and aqueous extract of Turnera aphrodisiaca leaves against CCl4-induced liver injury in rats

    Background: The botanical Latin name of the plant, Turnera aphrodisiaca, describes its ancient use as an aphrodisiac.Methods: The aim of the present study is to evaluate the protective effect of ethanolic and aqueous extract of Turnera aphrodisiaca leaves against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced liver damage in male Wistar rats.Results: Administration with ethanolic and aqueous extract of Turnera aphrodisiaca leaves (200 and 400 mg/kg) for 7 days significantly reduced the impact of CCl4 toxicity on the serum markers of liver damage, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase in a dose dependent matter. In addition, treatment of both the extracts resulted in markedly increased the levels of superoxide dismutase and catalase enzymes in rats. The histopathological studies in the liver of rats also supported that both extracts markedly reduced the toxicity of CCL4 and preserved the histoarchitecture of the liver tissue to near normal.Conclusion: Thus, the results suggest that ethanolic and aqueous extract of  Turnera aphrodisiaca leaves acts as a potent hepatoprotective agent against CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity in rats

    Does buyer-seller similarity affect buyer satisfaction with the seller firm?

    With the increased reliance on diverse markets in multi-cultural contexts, the role that similarity can play in the relationship between a salesperson and a buyer is receiving increased attention. Similarity is regarded as the cornerstone of positive communications, and salespeople rely on the trust that can be created by this recognition of likeness. However, there are different types of similarity, and not all have an equal bearing on the salesperson-buyer relationship. In this study, we examine similarity in appearance, similarity in lifestyle, and similarity in status. Most studies go no further than examining the effect of similarity on a buyer’s satisfaction with a salesperson, and to date there appear to be few studies relating to the effect of similarity on satisfaction with a firm. This study examines the effect of similarity on a buyer’s sense of satisfaction with a firm represented by a salesperson in the banking context. The results of the study show that appearance similarity and status similarity have a significant effect on the salesperson-buyer relationship, whereas lifestyle similarity has no effect. The buyer’s satisfaction with a salesperson is found to mediate the relationship between similarity in appearance and the buyer’s satisfaction with a firm. In this paper, we discuss these findings and look at their implications for both research and practice. Findings of the study are particularly important because of New Zealand’s increasing interaction with Asia and its people, which has transformed New Zealand to become a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic country
