Abstract : This report was carried out as part of the Masters’ Degree in Music Education at Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas do Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco and is divided in two different parts. The first section describes the supervised teaching practice that took place at the Conservatório de Música, Teatro e Dança de Vila do Conde during the academic year of 2021/22. The second part describes the research project titled “The musical exploration of the keyboard in piano initiation: contributions to technical and creative development”. This project aimed to familiarize the students with the whole range of the piano keyboard and explores its impact on how students develop technique and creativity. In a first phase, a survey was carried out with Portuguese piano teachers, through which it was possible to find information about the most used methods and their opinion about the exploration of the keyboard range in the beginning of musical training. At the same time, a pedagogical intervention was carried out with nine beginner piano students from the Conservatório de Música, Teatro e Dança de Vila do Conde. Small pieces exploring different areas of the keyboard were composed. The pieces attempted to tell a story with which the students could relate to, following a storytelling line. The students learned the pieces throughout a period of two months and the project ended with a concert performance. The results suggested that the exploration of different keyboard registers increased development of technical elements and creativity

Inherited and acquired risk factors and their combined effects in pediatric stroke

The aim of this study was to identify hereditary and acquired risk-factors as they are related to the occurrence of stroke in children. We identified 21 children with stroke. A search of the Factor V Leiden mutation, the Factor II G20210A variant, and the thermolabile variant of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase was performed in patients and in a control group (n = 115).We identified risk factors of acquired and/or hereditary nature for stroke in 19 of 21 children. Eleven children had three or more risk factors, seven had two risk factors, and one child had only one risk factor. We found three carriers (14.3%) of the Factor V Leiden mutation, two carriers (9.5%) of the Factor II G20210A variant, eleven (52.4%) thermolabile variant of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase heterozygote carriers, and one (4.8%) homozygotes for this variant.Frequencies of the Factor V Leiden mutation and the Factor II variant were higher in patients than in controls, suggesting that these variants are associated with an increased risk of stroke in childhood. Homozygosity for the thermolabile variant of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase was equally frequent amongst patients and controls. Our study confirms that stroke in children is commonly associated with a combination of multiple risk factors, both genetic and acquired, and that the Factor V Leiden mutation and the Factor II G20210A variant are predisposing factors for this situation

The TT genotype of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase 677C>T polymorphism increases the susceptibility to pediatric ischemic stroke: meta-analysis of the 822 cases and 1,552 controls

The 677C>T polymorphism within methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene is related to an elevated level of homocysteine. Thus it may be considered as a genetic risk factor in ischemic stroke. Apparently studies of this type of polymorphism in childhood stroke have shown conflicting results. We performed meta-analysis of all the data that are available in relation with MTHFR polymorphism and the risk of ischemic stroke in children. We searched PubMed (last search dated December 2010) using “MTHFR polymorphism”, “ischemic stroke” “child”, “children”, “pediatric stroke” as keywords and reference lists of studies and reviews on the topic. Finally, 15 case–control studies corresponded to the inclusion criteria for meta-analysis. These studies involved the total number of 822 children and adolescents after ischemic stroke and 1,552 control subjects. Fixed or random effects models were used depending on the heterogeneity between the studies. The association between ischemic stroke and 677C>T polymorphism within MTHFR gene was observed in three of the studies. The pooled analysis showed that TT genotype of MTHFR gene is more common in stroke patients than in controls (p = 0.0402, odds ratio = 1.57, 95 % confidence interval 1.02–2.41). The Egger’s test did not reveal presence of a publication bias. The results based on a sizeable group of cases and controls have proved that the 677C>T polymorphism in MTHFR gene is associated with the development of ischemic stroke in children

This research is largely motivated by the recently updated CIRS tax law (Law no.24-D/2022), which considers fungible tokens to be taxable as cryptoassets and, on the other hand, exempts non-fungible tokens. Thus, we intend to interpret the tax implications of such exemption, i.e., the express legislative decision to fiscally exempt an event that constitutes a manifestation of contributive capacity. The purpose of the study is, thus, to understand if the exemption of NFTs from taxation is justified. For this effect, we need to frame the topic and determine i) what a cryptoasset is, ii) what an NFT is, iii) how different operations can generate income, and iv) how NFTs (and the underlying asset) can be taxed (capital, capital gains or royalties)
