Navigation visuelle dans un environnement ouvert : reconnaissance de vues panoramiques

    Get PDF

Occipital gamma activation during Vipassana meditation

Long-term Vipassana meditators sat in meditation vs. a control rest (mind-wandering) state for 21 min in a counterbalanced design with spontaneous EEG recorded. Meditation state dynamics were measured with spectral decomposition of the last 6 min of the eyes-closed silent meditation compared to control state. Meditation was associated with a decrease in frontal delta (1–4 Hz) power, especially pronounced in those participants not reporting drowsiness during meditation. Relative increase in frontal theta (4–8 Hz) power was observed during meditation, as well as significantly increased parieto-occipital gamma (35–45 Hz) power, but no other state effects were found for the theta (4–8 Hz), alpha (8–12 Hz), or beta (12–25 Hz) bands. Alpha power was sensitive to condition order, and more experienced meditators exhibited no tendency toward enhanced alpha during meditation relative to the control task. All participants tended to exhibit decreased alpha in association with reported drowsiness. Cross-experimental session occipital gamma power was the greatest in meditators with a daily practice of 10+ years, and the meditation-related gamma power increase was similarly the strongest in such advanced practitioners. The findings suggest that long-term Vipassana meditation contributes to increased occipital gamma power related to long-term meditational expertise and enhanced sensory awareness

Robustness of Visual Place Cells in Dynamic Indoor and Outdoor Environment

    No full text
In this paper, a model of visual place cells (PCs) based on precise neurobiological data is presented. The robustness of the model in real indoor and outdoor environments is tested. Results show that the interplay between neurobiological modelling and robotic experiments can promote the understanding of the neural structures and the achievement of robust robot navigation algorithms. Short Term Memory (STM), soft competition and sparse coding are important for both landmark identification and computation of PC activities. The extension of the paradigm to outdoor environments has confirmed the robustness of the vision-based model and pointed to improvements in order to further foster its performance

Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento CientĂfico e TecnolĂłgico (CNPq)In this work we establish new results about the existence of smooth, explicit families of periodic traveling waves for the modified and fourth-order Benjamin-Bona-Mahony equations. We also prove, under certain conditions, that these families are nonlinearly stable in the energy space. The techniques employed may be of further use in the study of the stability of periodic traveling-wave solutions of other nonlinear evolution equations.303851871Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento CientĂfico e TecnolĂłgico (CNPq)University of Cordoba, Monteria, ColombiaConselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento CientĂfico e TecnolĂłgico (CNPq)CNPq [14/2009

The regularized Benjamin-Ono and BBM equations: Well-posedness and nonlinear stability

Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento CientĂfico e TecnolĂłgico (CNPq)Nonlinear stability of nonlinear periodic solutions of the regularized Benjamin-Ono equation and the Benjamin-Bona-Mahony equation with respect to perturbations of the same wavelength is analytically studied. These perturbations are shown to be stable. We also develop a global well-posedness theory for the regularized Benjamin-Ono equation in the periodic and in the line setting. In particular, we show that the Cauchy problem (in both periodic and nonperiodic case) cannot be solved by an iteration scheme based on the Duhamel formula for negative Sobolev indices. On the Schrodinger-Boussinesq system with singular initial data

Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)We study the existence of local and global solutions for coupled Schrwodinger-Boussinesq systems with initial data in weak-L-r spaces. These spaces contain singular functions with infinite L-2-mass such as homogeneous functions of negative degree. Moreover, we analyze the self-similarity and radial symmetry of solutions by considering initial data with the right homogeneity and radially symmetric, respectively: Since functions in weak-L-r with r > 2 have local finite L-2-mass, the solutions obtained can be physically realized. Moreover, for initial data in H-s, local solutions belong to H-s which shows that the constructed data-solution map in weak-L-r recovers H-s-regularity. (C) 2012 Elsevier Inc. This paper is concerned with the initial value problem for the nonlinear Klein-Gordon-Schrödinger (KGS) system in (Formula presented.). We consider general polynomial nonlinearities that include in particular the classical Yukawa-KGS model. We show existence of local and global mild solutions for the KGS system with initial data in weak (Formula presented.)-spaces, which is an infinite (Formula presented.)-norm setting. Moreover, we obtain a persistence result in (Formula presented.) when the initial data belong to this class, which shows that the constructed data-solution map in weak-(Formula presented.) recovers (Formula presented.)-regularity. We also prove results of scattering and wave operators in that singular framework. © 2014 Fondazione Annali di Matematica Pura ed Applicata and Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg
