Food Security, Gender and Occupational Choice among Urban Low-Income Households

Rising urban poverty and food insecurity are serious concerns in developing countries today. Urban livelihoods and coping strategies remain poorly understood however. This paperexamines the response of female and male household members in marginalized urban (predominantly squatter) areas to the risk of food shortage in terms of occupational choice. More specifically, we use probit analyses to investigate whether household vulnerability or the need to provide self-insurance for food security, alongside gender roles, influence a worker's choice of enterprise activity. We focus our investigation on self-employed women and men using a data set drawn from the 1496 individual sample in 14 urban squatter communities in Bolivia, Ecuador, Philippines and Thailand. Our findings show that selfemployed women in households facing higher risk of food insecurity are likely to engage in food-related enterprise activities and this is especially true in Philippines and Thailand. Representasi Nilai-nilai Kehidupan dalam Novel Ine Pare Karya F. Rahardi

The purpose of the study was to discover and describe the values in F. Rahardi's novel Ine Pare. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach with the techniques used is non-statistical in the sense of analyzing not using numbers. The theory used is value theory. The results of this study show that the values contained in the novel Ine Pare by F. Rahardi are as follows: 1) moral values include two values: positive moral values and negative moral values. Positive moral values include: the values of honesty, the value of courage, patience, and hard work, while negative moral values include: dishonest values, prejudice, anger, and revenge, 2) Religious values include: believing in God, gratitude, 3) social values include: mutual help, willingness to sacrifice, 4) aesthetic values, 5) cultural values, 6) practical values, and 7) hedonic values

Kemampuan Menulis Naskah Drama Pentas dengan Menggunakan Media Cerita Rakyat Siswa SMA

Penggunaan media cerita rakyat merupakan salah satu cara memudahkan siswa menulis naskah drama. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan kemampuan menulis naskah drama pentas pada siswa kelas XI Bahasa SMA Negeri 7 Kota Komba dengan menggunakan kuantitatif dengan bantuan media cerita rakyat. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kependidikan. Yang menjadi subyek penelitian adalah siswa kelas XI Bahasa SMA Negeri 7 Kota Komba yang berjumlah 35 orang. Teknik pengumpulan data kuntitatif penelitian ini adalah  menggunakan instrumen tes dengan hasil tes unjuk kerja siswa. Data yang telah terkumpul dianalisis secara kuantitatif.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan menulis naskah drama dengan menggunakan media cerita rakyat siswa kelas XI Bahasa SMA Negeri 7 Kota Komba  sudah baik karena siswa yang mendapat nilai di atas standar lebih banyak dibandingkan dengan siswa yang mendapat nilai dibawah standar, hal ini terbukti bahwa siswa yang meraih nilai di atas 74 adalah 31 orang atau 89% dan dibawah nilai 74 sebanyak 4 orang atau 11%  dengan  rata-rata 82%. Hasil penelitian ini memberi rekomendasi bagi guru Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia untuk menggunakan media cerita rakyat dalam pengajaran menulis naskah drama

A Statistical Inverse Method for Gridding Passive Microwave Data with Mixed Measurements

When a passive microwave footprint intersects objects on the ground with different spectral characteristics, the corresponding observation is mixed. The retrieval of geophysical parameters is limited by this mixture. We propose to partition the study region into objects following an object-based image analysis procedure and then to refine this partition into small cells. Then, we introduce a statistical method to estimate the brightness temperature (TB) of each cell. The method assumes that TB of the cells corresponding to the same object is identically distributed and that the TB heterogeneity within each cell can be neglected. The implementation is based on an iterative expectation-maximization algorithm. The Character Values of The Pati Ka Offering Ritual at Kelimutu Lake

This study aimed at describing the character value of education through understanding the semiotic meaning of the offerings ritual Pati Ka in the Kelimutu Lake. This study used descriptive qualitative and ethnolinguistic approach. The research subject were two people namely Mosalaki (clan chief) who organized the Pati Ka ritual and a local villager. Data collection techniques which is done by observation, interview and documentation. The techniques used in analyzing the data was the techniques model by Miles and Huberman with 4 stages namely, data collection, the data reduction, data analysis, data display and drawing conclusion. Legenda Peni dan Nogo bagi masyarakat Lamatuka, Kabupaten Lembata merupakan sebuah cerita yang mengangkat realitas kehidupan masyarakat lama Lamatuka yang sangat mempercayai adanya kekuatan gaib dari seseorang yang disebut suanggi (setan) oleh masyarakat setempat. Tujuan penelitian ini, yaitu untuk mendeskripsikan nilai-nilai humanis yang terdapat dalam legenda Peni dan Nogo karya Gerady Tukan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Volcanic alert system by lightning detection using the WWLLN - ash cloud monitor

Electrical discharges are observed in many volcanic eruptions and they have often been used as indicators of such eruptions. Volcanic lightning is remarkably similar to those produced during thunderstorms and is called analogous to thunderstorm-like plume lightning. The WWLLN developed a program called "Ash Cloud Monitor" (ACM), in which alerts are issued for possible volcanic eruptions when lightning strokes are detected around a volcano. The ACM tool has demonstrated to be a very effective technique to be aware of volcanic eruptions. However, most of the alerts released by ACM belong to false alarms of volcanic activity, because, in general, the detected lightning is produced by thunderstorms near the volcano. In order to assess and improve the ACM to detect volcanic eruptions, reducing false alert emissions and improving the quick interpretation of them, we develop a web platform called GeorayosVolcanoAr with a new structure and a modified algorithm, with respect to the algorithm used by ACM, for the classification of alerts. The new algorithm considers an alert system with 3 levels: Red - Yellow - Green, with the Red alert being the highest level and decreasing towards Green. The Red alert was assigned to those volcanoes where only recorded lightning within a radius of 20 km or the lightning detected within a radius of 20 km is at least twice as much as that detected up to 100 km from the vent. The study focused on 32 volcanoes located in the Andes, close to the Argentine-Chilean border, and analyzed the results reported by the ACM network in terms of a climatological study of the lightning activity, thunderstorm days and predominant winds in that region. This analysis serves as a basis for a general recognition of the study zone in order to improve the interpretation of the distribution and generation of false alerts; as well as to help decision makers, among others, to have a reference that allows them to issue the warning.Fil: Baissac, Daiana Marlene. KEMAMPUAN MOTORIK KASAR ANAK USIA 5-6 TAHUN DALAM PERMAINAN TRADISIONAL AWI ALU

The aim is to know and describe the gross motor skills of children through the traditional Awi Alu game and to find out the supporting and inhibiting factors in the traditional Awi Alu game. The research method used is qualitative with data collection techniques used are observation, interviews and documentation. The data and research results that have been collected are then analyzed descriptively. The results of the research on the gross motor skills of children aged 5-6 years in playing the traditional games of Awi Alu at Paud Lili Maumere can be seen that the gross motor skills of children in jumping include; (1) strength aspect (2) aspect (3) aspect (4) speed aspect (5) coordination aspect. Supporting factors in the traditional game of Awi Alu, among others; (1) the students' motivation to play is quite high. (2) supporting facilities and environment for the process of implementing traditional games. While the factors that hinder the implementation of game activities include: (1) the concentration of students who fluctuate easily. (2) insufficient time to play the game. (3) the development of times and technology regarding the types of games.  Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan kemampuan motorik kasar anak melalui permainan tradisional Awi Alu dan mengetahui faktor-faktor pendukung dan penghambat dalam permainan tradisional Awi Alu. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi,wawancara dan dokumentasi. Data dan hasil penelitian yang telah dikumpulkan kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil dari penelitian tentang Kemampuan Motorik Kasar Anak Usia 5-6 Tahun Dalam Bermain Permainan Tradisional Awi Alu Di Paud Lili Maumere dapat dilihat kemampuan motorik kasar anak dalam melompat antara lain ; (1) aspek kekuatan (2) aspek (3) aspek (4) aspek kecepatan (5) aspek koordinasi. Faktor-faktor pendukung dalam permainan tradisional Awi Alu antara lain; (1) motivasi bermain dari peserta didik yang cukup tinggi.
