Theoretical Inspecting of 211At Radionuclide via Coupled-Channel Model for Fusion Reaction of Stable Nuclei
This work has been carried out to obtain and inspect of 211At radionuclide through fusion reaction. Cross-sections for fusion reaction have been calculated with different interaction combinations and excitations for 19F + 192Os and 18O + 193Ir reactions. All calculations have been performed on NRV Knowledge Base, CCFULL code, and Wong’s Formula. Firstly, we assigned reaction parameter values taking into account the compatibility with the experimental data 19F + 192Os reaction. Afterward, to enrich studies on 211At radionuclide, we proposed 18O + 193Ir reaction which did not have experimental data in the literature with the method and parameter values we determined. We examined the effects of phonon excitations in projectile and target nuclei on fusion cross sections and barrier distributions. With our research, we showed that the coupled channel model and the calculation codes used to explain the fusion cross-section data and barrier distributions well. This research sheds light on the importance of analyzing important medical radionuclides such as 211At by heavy-ion fusion reactions and encourages new researches
Embrittlement in CN3MN Grade Superaustenitic Stainless Steels
Superaustenitic stainless steels (SSS) are widely used in extreme environments such as off-shore oil wells, chemical and food processing equipment, and seawater systems due to their excellent corrosion resistance and superior toughness. The design of the corresponding heat treatment process is crucial to create better mechanical properties. In this respect, the short-term annealing behavior of CN3MN grade SSS was investigated by a combined study of Charpy impact tests, hardness measurements, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Specimens were heat treated at 1200 K (927 A degrees C) for up to 16 minutes annealing time and their impact strengths and hardnesses were tested. The impact toughness was found to decrease to less than the half of the initial values while hardness stayed the same. Detailed fracture surface analyses revealed a ductile to brittle failure transition for relatively short annealing times. Brittle fracture occurred in both intergranular and transgranular modes. SEM and TEM indicated precipitation of nano-sized intermetallics, accounting for the intergranular embrittlement, along the grain boundaries with respect to annealing time. The transgranular fracture originated from linear defects seen to exist within the grains. Close observation of such defects revealed stacking-fault type imperfections, which lead to step-like cracking observed in microlength scales
Relationship of bone mineral density with disease activity and functional ability in patients with ankylosing spondylitis: a cross-sectional study
In ankylosing spondylitis, inflammatory activity probably plays a key role in the pathophysiology of bone loss. The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship of bone mineral density (BMD) at the lumbar spine and hip region with some measures of disease activity and functional ability in patients with ankylosing spondylitis. In 80 patients with established ankylosing spondylitis, disease activity and functional ability were determined by C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) and Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI). Spinal pain and patient global health were assessed using horizontal visual analog scale. BMD was measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. There was a significant negative correlation of bone density T scores with acute-phase reactants (i.e., patients with lower T scores had higher level of CRP and ESR). That relationship was reflected more reliably at proximal femur sites than at the lumbar spine. There were also significant differences in ESR, BASDAI, BASFI, spinal pain and global health between three groups of patients according to WHO classification of osteoporosis (normal, osteopenic and osteoporotic). Significantly, more patients with osteopenia at the lumbar spine had lower BASDAI index than those with normal BMD (P = 0.030). Our results indicate an association of low BMD with high disease activity in patients with AS. Femoral BMD seems to be more associated with disease activity and functional ability than lumbar spine BMD

Preservice Science Teachers’ Practices of Critiquing and Revising 5E Lesson Plans
Namdar, Bahadir/0000-0002-5076-6034WOS: 000441986300002The purpose of this study was to investigate and better understand preservice science teachers' (PSTs') practices when critiquing and revising 5E (engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate) lesson plans. A single instrumental case study approach was used. the study was conducted at a public university in northeastern Turkey. the participants, chosen using a convenience sampling method, were 51 second-year PSTs. They were asked to create 5E lesson plans on a given objective in a total of 20 groups of two to three. Then each group was asked to present its plans while other groups critiqued each step of the 5E lesson plans presented. Data sources were the participants' written critique forms and the lesson plans that they created in their groups. Data were analyzed using content analysis and a rubric for the inquiry orientation of each lesson plan. Findings indicated that the PSTs made both structural and procedural critiques of the 5E lesson plans. Three of the most repeated critiques were a lack of scientifically oriented questions, a lack of alternative assessment, and a lack of gathering and analyzing data. the participants adopted some critiques on the essential features of inquiry and inquiry orientation of the lesson plans, such as formulating explanations. However, they failed to address critiques on organizing data and evaluating explanations by considering alternative explanations. After the critique activity, the inquiry orientations of half of the lesson plans increased.
