Rigorous electromagnetic analysis of a microcylindrical axilens with long focal depth and high transverse resolution
We first present nonparaxial designs for a microcylindrical axilens with different long focal depths and rigorously analyze electromagnetic field distributions of the axilens using integral equations and the boundary-element method. Numerical results show that the designed axilenses indeed have the special feature of attaining a long focal depth while keeping high transverse resolution for numerical apertures of 2.4, 2.0, and 1.0. The ratio between the extended focal depth of the designed axilens and the focal depth of the conventional focal lens is 1.41, the corresponding maximal extended focal depth of the axilens can reach 28 μm, and the spot size of the focal beam is ∼10 μm over the focal range. © 2001 Optical Society of America.published_or_final_versio

Mental disorder symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic in Latin America - a systematic review and meta-analysis.
AIMS: There is a lack of evidence related to the prevalence of mental health symptoms as well as their heterogeneities during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in Latin America, a large area spanning the equator. The current study aims to provide meta-analytical evidence on mental health symptoms during COVID-19 among frontline healthcare workers, general healthcare workers, the general population and university students in Latin America. METHODS: Bibliographical databases, such as PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, PsycINFO and medRxiv, were systematically searched to identify pertinent studies up to August 13, 2021. Two coders performed the screening using predefined eligibility criteria. Studies were assigned quality scores using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. The double data extraction method was used to minimise data entry errors. RESULTS: A total of 62 studies with 196 950 participants in Latin America were identified. The pooled prevalence of anxiety, depression, distress and insomnia was 35%, 35%, 32% and 35%, respectively. There was a higher prevalence of mental health symptoms in South America compared to Central America (36% v. 28%, p < 0.001), in countries speaking Portuguese (40%) v. Spanish (30%). The pooled prevalence of mental health symptoms in the general population, general healthcare workers, frontline healthcare workers and students in Latin America was 37%, 34%, 33% and 45%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The high yet heterogenous level of prevalence of mental health symptoms emphasises the need for appropriate identification of psychological interventions in Latin America
STM and RHEED study of the Si(001)-c(8x8) surface
The Si(001) surface deoxidized by short annealing at T~925C in the ultrahigh
vacuum molecular beam epitaxy chamber has been in situ investigated by high
resolution scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and reflected high energy
electron diffraction (RHEED). RHEED patterns corresponding to (2x1) and (4x4)
structures were observed during sample treatment. The (4x4) reconstruction
arose at T<600C after annealing. The reconstruction was observed to be
reversible: the (4x4) structure turned into the (2x1) one at T>600C, the (4x4)
structure appeared again at recurring cooling. The c(8x8) reconstruction was
revealed by STM at room temperature on the same samples. A fraction of the
surface area covered by the c(8x8) structure decreased as the sample cooling
rate was reduced. The (2x1) structure was observed on the surface free of the
c(8x8) one. The c(8x8) structure has been evidenced to manifest itself as the
(4x4) one in the RHEED patterns. A model of the c(8x8) structure formation has
been built on the basis of the STM data. Origin of the high-order structure on
the Si(001) surface and its connection with the epinucleation phenomenon are

Observation of CR Anisotropy with ARGO-YBJ
The measurement of the anisotropies of cosmic ray arrival direction provides
important informations on the propagation mechanisms and on the identification
of their sources. In this paper we report the observation of anisotropy regions
at different angular scales. In particular, the observation of a possible
anisotropy on scales between 10 and 30
suggests the presence of unknown features of the magnetic fields the charged
cosmic rays propagate through, as well as potential contributions of nearby
sources to the total flux of cosmic rays. Evidence of new weaker few-degree

The ESR1 (6q25) locus is associated with calcaneal ultrasound parameters and radial volumetric bone mineral density in European men
<p><b>Purpose:</b> Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified 6q25, which incorporates the oestrogen receptor alpha gene (ESR1), as a quantitative trait locus for areal bone mineral density (BMD(a)) of the hip and lumbar spine. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of this locus on other bone health outcomes; calcaneal ultrasound (QUS) parameters, radial peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) parameters and markers of bone turnover in a population sample of European men.</p>
<p><b>Methods:</b> Eight single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) in the 6q25 locus were genotyped in men aged 40-79 years from 7 European countries, participating in the European Male Ageing Study (EMAS). The associations between SNPs and measured bone parameters were tested under an additive genetic model adjusting for centre using linear regression.</p>
<p><b>Results:</b> 2468 men, mean (SD) aged 59.9 (11.1) years had QUS measurements performed and bone turnover marker levels measured. A subset of 628 men had DXA and pQCT measurements. Multiple independent SNPs showed significant associations with BMD using all three measurement techniques. Most notably, rs1999805 was associated with a 0.10 SD (95%CI 0.05, 0.16; p = 0.0001) lower estimated BMD at the calcaneus, a 0.14 SD (95%CI 0.05, 0.24; p = 0.004) lower total hip BMD(a), a 0.12 SD (95%CI 0.02, 0.23; p = 0.026) lower lumbar spine BMD(a) and a 0.18 SD (95%CI 0.06, 0.29; p = 0.003) lower trabecular BMD at the distal radius for each copy of the minor allele. There was no association with serum levels of bone turnover markers and a single SNP which was associated with cortical density was also associated with cortical BMC and thickness.</p>
<p><b>Conclusions:</b> Our data replicate previous associations found between SNPs in the 6q25 locus and BMD(a) at the hip and extend these data to include associations with calcaneal ultrasound parameters and radial volumetric BMD.</p>
Structure of hadron resonances with a nearby zero of the amplitude
We discuss the relation between the analytic structure of the scattering
amplitude and the origin of an eigenstate represented by a pole of the
amplitude.If the eigenstate is not dynamically generated by the interaction in
the channel of interest, the residue of the pole vanishes in the zero coupling
limit. Based on the topological nature of the phase of the scattering
amplitude, we show that the pole must encounter with the
Castillejo-Dalitz-Dyson (CDD) zero in this limit. It is concluded that the
dynamical component of the eigenstate is small if a CDD zero exists near the
eigenstate pole. We show that the line shape of the resonance is distorted from
the Breit-Wigner form as an observable consequence of the nearby CDD zero.
Finally, studying the positions of poles and CDD zeros of the KbarN-piSigma

The Conley Conjecture and Beyond
This is (mainly) a survey of recent results on the problem of the existence
of infinitely many periodic orbits for Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms and Reeb
flows. We focus on the Conley conjecture, proved for a broad class of closed
symplectic manifolds, asserting that under some natural conditions on the
manifold every Hamiltonian diffeomorphism has infinitely many (simple) periodic
orbits. We discuss in detail the established cases of the conjecture and
related results including an analog of the conjecture for Reeb flows, the cases
where the conjecture is known to fail, the question of the generic existence of
infinitely many periodic orbits, and local geometrical conditions that force
the existence of infinitely many periodic orbits. We also show how a recently
established variant of the Conley conjecture for Reeb flows can be applied to
prove the existence of infinitely many periodic orbits of a low-energy charge
in a non-vanishing magnetic field on a surface other than a sphere.Comment: 34 pages, 1 figur
Vibration suppression and angle tracking of a fire-rescue ladder
This paper mainly considers vibration suppression and angle tracking of a fire-rescue ladder system. The dynamical model is regarded as a segmented Euler–Bernoulli beam with gravity and tip mass, described by a set of motion equations and boundary conditions. Based on the nonlinear Euler–Bernoulli beam model, two active boundary controllers are proposed to achieve the control objectives. The elastic deflection and the angular error in the closed-loop system are proven to converge exponentially to a small neighborhood of zero. Numerical simulations based on finite difference method verify the effectiveness and the ascendancy of active boundary controllers
