    No full text

Active magnetic bearing: A new step for model-free control

    No full text
International audienceThe newly introduced model-free control is applied to the stabilization of an active magnetic bearing, which is a most important industrial device. Experimental results are compared to those obtained via other control techniques, showing at least on-par performance with this very straightforward approach, which is moreover quite easy to implement

Spinopelvic sagittal alignment of patients with transfemoral amputation

This study aims to describe the spinopelvic sagittal alignment in transfemoral amputees (TFAs) from a radiologic study of the spine with a postural approach to better understand the high prevalence of low back pain (LBP) in this population. METHODS: TFAs underwent X-rays with 3-D reconstructions of the full spine and pelvis. Sagittal parameters were analyzed and compared to the literature. Differences between TFAs with and without LBP were also observed. RESULTS: Twelve subjects have been prospectively included (TFA-LBP group (n = 5) and TFA-NoP group (n = 7)). Four of the five subjects of the TFA-LBP group and two of the seven in TFAs-NoP group had an imbalanced sagittal posture, especially regarding the T9-tilt, significantly higher in the TFA-LBP group than in the TFA-NoP (p = 0.046). Eight subjects (6 TFA-NoP and 2 TFA-LBP) had abnormal low value of thoracic kyphosis (TK). Moreover, the mean angle of TK in the TFA-NoP group was lower than in the TFA-LBP group (p = 0.0511). CONCLUSION: In the considered sample, TFAs often present a sagittal imbalance. A low TK angle seems to be associated with the absence of LBP. It can be hypothesized that this compensatory mechanism of the sagittal imbalance is the most accessible in this population. This study emphasizes the importance of considering the sagittal balance of the pelvis and the spine in patients with a TFA to better understand the high prevalence of LBP in this population. It should be completed by the analysis of the spinopelvic balance and the lower limbs in 3D. These slides can be retrieved under Electronic Supplementary Material

CFRP drilling: Fundamental study of local feed force and consequences on hole exit damage

    Get PDF
Carbon Fiber-Reinforced by Plastic (CFRP) is now commonly used in the aircraft industry. The main challenge is to manufacture this difficult-to-cut work material, considering its quality criteria and economical aspects. Drilling is the main machining operation required for the assembly of the aircraft structure. In this paper, results are presented and discussed regarding exit delamination studied at a local scale. Because of the anisotropic properties of CFRP, the fiber cutting modes change with the composite sequence combined with the drill revolution parameters. The local feed forces generated by the cutting edge on the hole bottom may be correlated with delaminating aspects. A posttreatment method is proposed to analyze precisely these feed force and cutting torque distributions. Appropriate ply sequences are identified in order to limit the mechanical load concentration and the risk of delamination or uncut fiber

Transient Electric Field Shaping With the Linear Combination of Configuration Field Method for Enhanced Spatial Control of Microwave Plasmas

    Get PDF
The demonstration of enhanced spatial control of nanosecond microwave plasmas generated by the time reversal plasma source is presented in this paper. This new microwave plasma source relies on the spatio-temporal control of the electric field inside an all-metal plasma reactor by modifying the waveform of a high power microwave signal. More specifically, it originally used the spatio-temporal focusing capabilities of the time reversal method to focus a high electric field in a small location. However, a parasitic microwave breakdown can still occur at sharp corners or wedges inside the cavity due to the local enhancement of the residual electric field during time reversal focusing. Thus, it is proposed to use the linear combination of configuration field method to improve field control inside the reactor. Its transient electric field shaping capabilities turn out to be a good candidate for the development of a low pressure microwave ``plasma brush''
